MAYORAL MESSAGE I’m delighted to present Georges River Council’s 2019/2020 Major Events Program Sponsorship Prospectus. It includes a series of opportunities for local businesses across Greater Sydney to partner with Council by becoming a sponsor at one of our outstanding community events. The events on offer for sponsorship include: the Councillors Charity Ball, Magic of Christmas in Carss Bush Park, Australia Day Festival, Lunar New Year Festival, Starlight Cinema and the Night Market Series. Council is committed to promoting major events that showcase the very best of the Georges River area, while celebrating our cultural diversity. Last year, the Magic of Christmas, Australia Day and Lunar New Year events attracted over 70,000 people. This highlights the popularity of our events, which grow every year. Councillors’ Charity Ball
Magic of Christmas

This event is a fundraising partnership for The Salvation Army and its focus on Homelessness support services for the area.
As the premier Christmas event in the Georges River area, this event attracts families both locally and from Greater Sydney.
The Councillors’ Charity Ball is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for a local charity.
From the moment you arrive at the Magic of Christmas event, you will be transported into a wonderland of festive cheer with fantastic attractions and a exciting entertainment program.
In 2018, Georges River Council raised $30,000 for the Hurstville Rotary’s Fun, Kids at Play Program. In 2019, The Salvation Army and Georges River Council will partner to provide a dignity services for the homeless or people in need in the Georges River. Approximately 300-350 community minded businesses, organisations and individuals attend this event.
Magic of Christmas is a much-loved local tradition for members of the Georges River area, with the event offering something for everyone. Friends and families will enjoy a festive evening in Carss Bush Park, which, against a magical backdrop, features festive stalls and special performances. The 2018 event included live performances of The Grinch, Rudolph, Sydney Vocal Academy, Tim Moxey and beloved Play School and Playhouse Disney presenter Colin Buchanan performing his famous ‘Aussie Christmas Carols’.

Lunar New Year Festival

Lunar New Year is one of the oldest and most important celebrations in Asian culture. The Lunar New Year commences on the first new moon of the New Year and continues for 15 days. It is a time for family reunions, to bid farewell to the old year and pray for good harvests, fortune and health in the coming year.
To celebrate Australia Day 2020, Georges River Council will host the much-loved Australia Day Festival in Carss Bush Park. Offering plenty of fun, entertainment and activities, this family-friendly event attracts over 15,000 residents and visitors to one of the most beautiful settings in the Georges River Local Government Area.
The Hurstville event takes place on Forest road, one week prior to the Lunar New Year period in order to provide the ultimate build up to your Lunar New Year celebrations.
With official proceedings, a Citizenship Ceremony, Australia Day Award presentations, an Australia Day Ambassador visit, a huge line-up of performers on-stage, delicious food, art and craft market stalls, amusement rides and a fireworks finale, there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Georges River Council will welcome the Year of the Rat at the 2020 Lunar New Year Festival, which will be jampacked with a range of events celebrating Lunar New Year and the diversity and harmony of the Georges River community. Thousands of visitors will enjoy the bustling street fair, parade, lion dance, workshops, exhibitions and activities that showcase the diverse way in which Asian cultures celebrate this very special time of year.

Australia Day at Carss Bush Park continues to showcase Georges River’s richly diverse community and the harmony the area is known for. The event celebrates diversity, inclusivity, accessibility and sustainability. In 2018 the headline act featured Golden Guitar winners, The McClymonts. In 2019, Justice Crew took Australia Day by storm. The 2020 entertainment program promises to impress our very loyal audience.

Starlight Cinema
Eat/Art Night Markets
Each of the five wards in the Local Government area features a Starlight Cinema experience. Audiences peak at approximately 200 people per event with capacity for more.
Held at two different locations within in the Georges River each year, Audiences are approximate between 5001000 people per event.
A hit with families, the popular Starlight Cinema series will return in March 2020, with an outdoor cinema event at a different park across Georges River each Saturday night, and wrapping up with the highly popular Drive-in Cinema. This line-up of family-friendly cinema experiences presents a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to get together in their local area and enjoy the outdoors in the warmth of early autumn. Each Starlight Cinema event is packaged together and cross–promoted to the community. The large screen provides further marketing opportunities for businesses to benefit from.

Georges River Council will welcome the cool of early autumn evenings at its popular night markets, with a twist. The community will enjoy a fusion of delicious food, art and music at our Eat/Art Night Markets, which offer a range of stalls, including arts and crafts, a fantastic variety of international cuisine, and plenty of entertainment. With art at its heart, these two events aim to promote the cultural opportunities available for the community by including visual and performing artists to the line-up.
