About half of what the average Australian household throws out is compostable organic material. Sending food waste to landfill leads to the release of harmful greenhouse gases into our environment. Cut your waste in half! By placing your food scraps into a worm farm or compost bin, you can help the environment while reaping the benefits of nutrient rich compost for your garden. Visit www.compostrevolution.com.au/georgesriver to complete an online tutorial and have discounted products delivered to your door! Visit our website to find a free council-run composting and worm farming workshop near you.

I have a few more questions... I just moved into my new house... where are my bins?

A number of things could have happened to these bins (if they were there in the first place). Please call council directly on 9330 6400 to organise if you are the owner of the property. If you are renting, please contact your real estate agent directly.

How many bins should my unit block have? In this situation, it is best to contact your strata/building manager to gain further information about your building’s waste service.

I’ve been unpacking a lot of boxes during my move, what do I do with all this excess cardboard that doesn’t fit into my yellow-lidded bin? The SUEZ Rockdale Resource Recovery Centre and SUEZ Lucas Heights Resource Recovery Park accept flat-packed cardboard free of charge. Refer to page 3 for more information.

During my move, I’ve been spring cleaning my wardrobe. What do I do with my unwanted clothing? In order to avoid sending your clothing to landfill, you can attempt to donate the clothing. Charities accept clothing that are in good condition.

How do I get a larger red-lidded bin or more bins for my property? There are application forms and information on additional bin charges on our website: www.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au. Just navigate to our waste page!

What do I do if my bin is broken or goes missing? Please contact the Waste Hotline on 1800 079 390 to organise a bin repair/replacement.

Who do I contact if my bin isn’t emptied? Please contact the Waste Hotline on 1800 079 390 to notify us. We will organise for it to be collected as soon as possible.
