In 2018 Georgetown established an association with the 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, better known as the Ironhorse Brigade. The purpose is to enhance the understanding of the military as well as the military being more involved with the community. There are 200 soldiers stationed at Fort Hood who live in Georgetown. The relationship has greatly enhanced the relationship between the community and the military at Fort Hood, Texas.
The Brigade has provided static displays of its equipment allowing citizens and especially children to have a closeup and hands on experience. The Brigade Commander has delivered presentations to business leaders, political leaders, and appointed officials. Additionally the Brigade has hosted several tours by local officials and the school counselors of its facilities at Fort Hood and provided access to soldiers so that people garner an understanding of the training opportunities available in the service. Southwestern University has established a relationship that allows students to gain an understanding of the Army. The Army performs Honor Guard at games and the Brigade may provide static displays prior to games.
The association has been a success from any prospective and will continue to improve and provide understanding and support to the military and to soldiers.

The Chamber also partners with the City and Workforce Development to put on an annual Veterans Job Fair.
Worn-out flags are retired in a Flag Retirement ceremony. Conducted by the American Heritage Girls and the Boy Scouts of America, these respectful and solemn ceremonies allow members of the community to properly retire their old flags.
FIELD OF HONOR
The Field of Honor® is a dramatic, emotion-filled display of 1,700 full-size U.S. flags. This week long event coincides with Veterans Day. The event is organized by the Rotary Club of Georgetown. It publicly thanks and honors Heroes and also serves as a fundraiser for veterans programs. Each flag is available for purchase and personal dedication in honor of our military— past, present, active or reserve duty—and all first responders, including K-9 service heroes!
