Valentine's Day is almost here! What better time to save lives and show your love for others? Join fellow Circle K International members and pair Valentine’s Day with the life-giving mission of The Eliminate Project. Through Show Your Love, Save a Life, CKI plans to raise US$27,000 and save or protect more than 15,000 lives from maternal and neonatal tetanus. CKI is counting on you and your club! Need fundraising ideas so your club can participate? Check out the newly updated Show Your Love, Save a Life Fundraising Guide, which includes step-by-step instructions for hosting Valentine’s Day-themed fundraisers to benefit The Eliminate Project. There are largescale events and smaller options, or maybe you have something you’d like to sell: personalized cards, candy or balloon grams, or origami flowers. Enlist the help of your Kiwanis-family friends; they’d love the chance to show their love. Save the lives of women and babies around the world from maternal and neonatal tetanus this Valentine’s Day when you Show Your Love, Save a Life with CKI. Did you know? District Convention holds many awards, scholarships, activities, workshops, and more – but did you know that there is also a FUN opportunity to pie your GOVERNOR or the rest of the DISTRICT BOARD? That’s right folks! For a nifty price, you can buy someone’s face at our annual district convention Pie-in-theFace auction where all the proceeds go to the Eliminate Project! You and your club can participate and bid on your favorite (or least favorite) board member. Some of our special guests will also be donating their faces to this great cause as well. Last year, our two prized guests were Immediate Past Kiwanis International President Tom DeJulio and Immediate Past Georgia Kiwanis Governor Charles Hood. As one last incentive, the Governor (me) will be granting the club that raises the most money for the Eliminate Project and turns it in before March 31, 2014, a club visit and a pizza party or ice cream social of their choosing. So, bring your change Circle K’ers and let’s save some babies! Brittany Horton

Secretary This month I would like to talk about the importance of turning in all CMRs before District Convention. In order to be a club in good standing and be eligible for awards all CMRs from April through January must be turned in. If you have any questions about if your club is missing CMRs or how to turn in the CMR please email me at secretary@georgiacirclek.org Also, club elections will be held soon and when considering running for office, please make plans to attend Club Officer Leadership Training (COLT) that is conducted by the District Board. This year COLT is free for the five elected positions; president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and bulletin editor; as well as for faculty and Kiwanis advisors. The dates and locations for COLT are as follows: March 29, 2014 at Kennesaw State University and April 5, 2014 at the SpringHill Suites in Macon, GA. I hope everyone is having an awesome semester and that I will see you at DCON! Elizabeth Ludlow
Applying for awards is one of the main aspects of District Convention. Awards are a way to showcase your club officers and projects throughout the year. I highly encourage all club officers to apply. In order to apply, your club must be a club in good standing both on the international and district level by paying the international dues fee and the correct number of members your club needs to have and have submitted all of their Club Monthly Reports (CMRs). If you would like to check on the status of those requirements please feel free to email me via treasurer@georgiacirclek.org. Another opportunity to take advantage of is scholarships. Please note that you do not have to be present to win. We have a number of scholarships including the “George ‘Dad’ Gray” Scholarship, which has been upped from $250 to $400! For more information please visit www.georgiacirclek.org/awards.html and www.georgiacirclek.org/scholarships.html. I look forward to see you all at District Convention. Virginia Byrd
Be part of “CKIx” — the ultimate six-day experience that combines the best aspects of the Circle K International convention and Large Scale Service Project. There will be more leadership, fellowship and service opportunities than ever before, so don’t miss out!
Sometimes we get information overload. We get tired of scrolling through long emails describing the latest social or service project—good things to know, but it can be too much. Many of us have experienced getting too way many notifications from Facebook or GroupMe. This is where a club newsletter comes in! A newsletter isn’t for everyone, but it can be a great way to put all of your club’s information in one place. Important announcements, recaps, thanks and recognition, even silly photos could all get out to the members regularly in a convenient format. A newsletter is useful for: Highlighting special events and service projects your club has done Getting information out to a lot of people Encouragement and motivation! Recognizing outstanding members, giving credit where credit is due The club editor is responsible for the newsletter overall, but everyone can get involved, contributing stories, blurbs, photos and illustrations to the final product. The club newsletter can be very rewarding as a team effort; your club may even have a committee for advertising/public relations that could help out. Then, the newsletter can also be used as a resource for recruitment and education about CKI. Shannon Weaver
I have to give this one to District Convention Chair and District Treasurer Virginia Byrd! I could not even begin to scratch the list of all she’s worked on over the last couple of months, but if I did it could take up probably half this page. Ginny not only has spent countless months planning, designing, organizing, decorating, etc. everything you could possibly imagine for District Convention 2014! I have seen all her hard work and efforts in this and also as Treasurer contacting her clubs and making sure they understand how to pay fees and dues within the system. She’s also helped create the district newsletters which are sent out on a monthly basis. All in all, I don’t know what I would do without her, and I’ve barely even scratched the surface of her amazing character and work ethic. Thank you Ginny!!! Governor Brittany Horton
