Activate
July 1-5 (July 4) Did you know that staying active does wonders for you? It’s amazing! Staying active can do so much more than strengthen your bones and muscles! It can help you build a strong immune system, strengthen your heart and lungs, give you more energy, and improve memory and concentration! All you have to do is play! June 10-14 Did you know that, as a kid, you’re a natural innovator and that braille, the popsicle, ear muffs and the trampoline were invented by kids? These kids were not afraid to think out of the box to solve a problem. We’ll get your “right-brain” working in overdrive as we devote this week to those who like to build, create and invent. We’ll offer a series of challenges to put your imagination and inventive skills to the test. Put on your thinking caps because we’re bound to come up with the best thing since sliced bread. Throughout the week, you’ll also invent carnival booth games and at the end of the week you’ll get to play each other’s games at our very own Kids’ University Carnival!

DEFENSIVE DRIVING Save a life! Drive defensively! More than 43,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle crashes each year, and over two million more suffer disabling injuries, according to the National Safety Council. For teenagers, cars are still the leading cause of death. “Death by driving” is the third highest preventable cause of death. The triple threat of high speeds, impaired or careless driving and not using occupant restraints threatens every driver, regardless of how careful or how skilled. Driving defensively means not only taking responsibility for yourself and your actions, but also keeping an eye on "the other guy." GC is proud to be your partner in striving to prevent automobile accidents. In addition, you can save money on your
Plein Air Painting at the Oconee River Greenway and the Macon River Walk Plein air painting, a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, literally means “in the open air.” It's a familiar concept today, but in the late 1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary. Your subject matter, as well as your medium, is entirely up to you as you discover the many ways to achieve the results you desire with your painting using different techniques, tools, colors and composition to complete your painting. The instructor will demonstrate, lecture, critique and provide individualized instruction. You will focus on what you see, not what you can imagine or intellectualize about the subject. Register early to receive a list of supplies you need to bring to the workshop. This workshop is for ages 15 and up. We will meet at the main entrance to the Oconee River Greenway in Milledgeville and the main entrance to the River Walk on Spring Street in Macon. Since this is an outdoor workshop, you will be notified if inclement weather prevents the class from meeting. The make-up date will be the next Saturday.

Eligibility for the discount will continue for three years, provided that no driver commits a moving traffic offense or has a claim against the policy based on an at-fault accident. Consult with your insurance agent to determine exactly how completion of this program will affect your insurance rates. Please bring paper and pencils to class. This course is not for points reduction.

CPR/AED Certification for Adults, Children and Infants CPR is an emergency procedure used to revive an adult, child or infant who has stopped breathing and/or whose heart isn’t beating. Such incidences can occur following drowning, heart attacks, strokes, severe allergic reactions, electrocutions, or may be due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA is caused by problems with the heart's electrical system causing irregular heartbeats resulting in the heart stopping. If SCA is the emergency, once CPR has been performed and the heart is beating again, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can restore a normal beat to a heart. These portable AED devices are often found in public places, such as shopping malls, golf courses, businesses, airports, airplanes, casinos, convention centers, hotels, sports venues and schools. This OSHA approved Red Cross course gives you, wherever you are, the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and care for such injuries and sudden illnesses. Instruction includes Adult, Child and Infant CPR and AED training. Upon successful completion, you will receive a two-year certification from the American Red Cross. You must be at least 15 years old to take the course. Course #13440201 Monday • May 6 • 5:30-9:30 p.m. • 102 Chappell Hall Fee: $69 • 1 Session • Instructor: Ed Smith
