Fall 2021 Highlights
773 WINS, 19 SEC TITLES, 6 National CHAMPIONSHIPS Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace is now in his 37th year at the helm of the Bulldogs’ tennis program. As the nation’s winningest active women’s tennis coach, Wallace is one of only two coaches to record 750 wins in women’s tennis history. Wallace enters the 2022 dual season with 773 career victories.
Fall FInal Georgia competed in seven fall competitions in 2021 racking up 89 wins -- 62 singles and 27 doubles.
The Bulldogs return five members from last season including graduate Morgan Coppoc, seniors Alee Clayton and Meg Kowalski, and juniors Ania Hertel and Lea Ma. Georgia welcomed three freshmen: Guillermina Grant from Montevideo, Uruguay, Mai Nirundorn from Bangkok, Thailand, and Mell Reasco from Esmeraldes, Ecuador.
Fantastic Freshmen Freshmen Guillermina Grant and Mell Reasco excelled this Fall. Reasco, a native of Quito, Ecuador, posted an 11-3 singles record, won the ITA Southeast Regional, and earned a berth in the ITA National Fall Championship. Grant, a native of Montevideo, Uruguay, notched a 9-2 mark and won the ITA Southeast Regional Consolation draw, defeating fellow freshman and teammate Mai Nirundorn.
Georgia’s four freshmen ranked in the Top-31 of the ITF Junior World Rankings prior to arriving in Athens. No. 20 Mai Nirundorn, No. 20 Mell Reasco, No. 21 Dasha Vidmanova and No. 31 Guillermina Grant.
Dominant Doubles The Bulldogs posted a 27-13 mark in doubles action this fall, including a perfect 12-for-12 in doubles play at the Ole Miss Fall Invite. No. 42 Coppoc and Reasco went 5-1 (fell in the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Regional), and No. 50 Grant and Hertel posted a 3-2 mark.
Dawgs in the Preseason ITA Rankings Georgia boasts six rankings: A trio of individuals, No. 15 Meg Kowalski, No. 19 Lea Ma, and No. 66 Morgan Coppoc; A pair of doubles teams in No. 42 Coppoc and Reasco and No. 50 Grant and Hertel. In the fall, the ITA also ranks the Top-10 Freshman/Newcomer, Reasco came in at No. 4.
Adding to the mix Dasha Vidmanova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, signed with the Bulldogs in November. Georgia will look for the early enrollee to make an immediate impact in the Spring dual season.
