Savannah International Trade & Convention Center Conductor Janet Johnson's involvement with music has been long and varied. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia, with bachelor's and master's degrees in music education, she began her career in DeKalb County. She taught at Tucker and Redan High Schools where all her groups consistently receiving superior ratings. She then taught choral conducting and techniques at Georgia State University, and directed the Atlanta Vocal Consort. Janet has directed choirs in metro Atlanta churches for 27 years and is now in her tenth year at Oak Grove UMC. Ms. Johnson has conducted numerous honor choirs and All State choirs and has led sessions for GMEA, ACDA, SMENC, and Choristers Guild throughout the country. She created the curriculum and taught adjudicator classes for Certified Adjudicators and Head Judges for LGPE in Georgia. Ms. Johnson received the Distinguished Career Award from GMEA in 2006. For 22 years, Janet and her husband, Bucky, have been Directors of the Southern Star Music Festival, a successful choral and instrumental performance festival associated with Six Flags Over Georgia. Janet was a member of the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers during Shaw's lifetime, is in her 23rd year of singing and recording with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and continues to sing in the ASO Chamber Chorus.
