daisy’s photographs a view through a different lens words georgia weaving, photos daisy cook
Daisy has just turned two. She lives in Spain with her family who moved there six years ago. She spends her time sitting on the back of her mums bicycle, running around the jalon valley and dragging her big family to the park near her house. Daisy is happy to be alive, she enjoys everything around her and stops to look at intersting rocks, dust in the light and clouds in the sky. Somewhere along the way to adulthood we lose this fascination with life, the ability to apprecciate the small and insignificant details that Daisy can't get enough of. As a gift to this little girl with her innocent perspective I gave two disposable cameras. They came back battered and beaten by her enthusiasm, she had certainly taken the role of photographer seriously. Among the blurred and rushed images of her village were some real gems, beautiful moments from a unique view. Daisy didn't catch posed and stiff smiles, she photographed light falling on tiles, a slither of sky from a car window, action shots of her family in the park, a garden knome in a garden rockery and stalls at a local market. Best of all, at the end of the second roll of film, a glimpse of the photographer herself as she turns the camera round for a look into the lense. These photographs are a playful look at the world, focusing on the usually overlooked and candid moments that we experience daily and never think to stop and look at.
