There’s a Place FOR YOU HERE

Ranked No. 1 among public universities in the U.S. for undergraduate teaching,* we have earned a national reputation for our academic programs and research.

Georgia State is proud to have one of the fastestgrowing research profiles in the country. Through innovation — for which we’re ranked No. 2 in the nation* — we are changing the way our students learn, helping them graduate sooner, be more productive and save millions of dollars along the way. And we’ve proven that students from all backgrounds can succeed at the same high levels. We think business mogul and philanthropist Bill Gates said it best: “No other university has accomplished what Georgia State has the last decade.”

Like you, our students are leaders who are working to change the world.

WELCOME TO GEORGIA STATE. We hope to see you on campus. * U.S. News & World Report, 2024

We Will Support You

From the airport pickup to helping you enroll in classes, Georgia State’s International Student & Scholar Services office is here to support you every step of the way.

Make Atlanta YOUR HOME

Our location in Atlanta — Georgia’s capital city and the leading cultural center in the Southeast region of the U.S. — gives you unmatched opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Having been an integral part of the Civil Rights Movement, Atlanta has a rich history and diverse population. Around campus and the neighboring areas of the city, you’ll find a wide variety of restaurants, museums, professional sports venues and major city organizations, while meeting people from all around the world.

INTERNSHIPS & CO-OPS

The best way to learn is through experience, and the opportunities in Atlanta are unrivaled. Begin your career with an internship through the Georgia Aquarium or CNN, and gain valuable work experience. Georgia State students have held internships at the Coca-Cola Company, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Turner Broadcasting, Habitat for Humanity, the Georgia General Assembly and more. If you’re in computer science, computer information systems, political science or geosciences, take part in our growing cooperative education program. You’ll work full time for six months, get paid and gain critical training in your field.

Before CLASSES START

APPLY FOR YOUR VISA

Once you’ve received your I-20 or DS-2019, you’ll need to make an appointment for a visa interview. To find the U.S. Embassy closest to your home, visit the U.S. Department of State website at usembassy.gov.

Review your I-20 or DS-2019 for accuracy. If any of the information listed on this form is incorrect, contact International Student & Scholar Services immediately so a new form can be processed.

Note: Your I-20 or DS-2019 makes you eligible to apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa, but neither guarantees the issuance of the visa.

The wait time to receive a visa appointment will vary by location, so we encourage you to apply early. To view the visa wait time at your local consulate, go to travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/general/waittimes.html.
