LEEDS Welcome to Yorkshire
Geotechnics….it’s been in the name since 1983. We deal with the engineering and environmental interaction between earth materials and the built environment. We work with soil, rock, groundwater and other man made materials to help ground truth and understand the site-specific engineering behaviour beneath our feet. Our Company values (Quality, People, Integrity), ethos and vision is everything to us. Nurturing and providing a work place where everyone is involved, passionate and driven to deliver the very best quality site investigation services and data to serve the construction industry, wider community and the environment in which we operate and live. Our Yorkshire office is full of friendly, highly professional people. Over the years our Yorkshire office has worked on a variety of exciting projects. Here we'll take a look at what makes Yorkshire such an attractive place to live and work.
Yorkshire's Profile Located in the North of England, Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK, boasting almost a third of the total area of all National Parks in England. From rugged moorland criss-crossed with dry-stone walls, heritage homes and cosy pubs to historic abbeys and castles within a strown's throw of industrial towns, Yorkshire has it all. According to recent research it's the best region in Britain for workplace happiness and satisfaction, with The Lonely Planet even titling it "The Knightsbridge of the North". In recent years Leeds has been the Top ranking English City to Live in, in the Money supermarket Quality of UK Living survey, and it's now the 2nd largest Metropolitan district in England following a meteoric rise over recent years. Interestingly, Cambridge Economic Associates’ forecast of growth for the Leeds city region sees a rate that is 69% higher in the 2015-30 timeframe compared with the 2000-15 timeframe, and projects this as a low-end estimate. In fact, the County of Yorkshire has seen a 48% growth in its digital sector in just three years, making it the fastest-growing tech region in the UK. QUALITY

Living here The county's history, geography and people make it one of the most vibrant places in the world. Leeds itself boasts a variety of top class Museums and galleries including The Royal Armouries, The City Museum and the Thackery Museum, as well as the newly built First Direct Arena which is attracting a host of Top Musical Performers. Also, not forgetting the Leeds City Varieties, The Grand Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse. Opera North and the Northern Ballet are also based in the City. A short drive away in York you can see Roman Ruins and Viking artefacts, and numerous museums, including the National Rail Museum!
Shopaholics are well catered for, with Leeds now boasting a flagship John Lewis Store, Harvey Nichols, Louis Vuitton and a host of shopping experiences in the shape of the stunning Victoria Quarter, the recently built Victoria Gate shopping centre and the Trinity Centre. If you like your shopping a bit more sedate then a stroll around Harrogate or York's own historic Shambles are recommended. We also recommend stopping at one of the many fine-eating restaurants or tea rooms, such as the famous Bettys to take the weight off your feet too! Yorkshire tea, obviously!
If sports and the great outdoors are your thing there are a host of wellknown sporting teams, including Premier League Leeds United, Rugby League side Leeds Rhino's, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Rugby Union side Yorkshire Carnegie. In addition, Leeds-born Olympic athletes, the Brownlee Brothers, have helped promote Leeds as the heart of the World Triathlon series and helped to inspire the annual Tour De Yorkshire Cycling event which has followed in the footsteps of the Yorkshire stages of the Tour De France. There's plenty of opportunity to get involved, and there's plenty of excellent hiking opportunitities to explore the landscape. And the geology!

Working here Geotechnics is known for our engineering technical knowledge and excellence and although we are not one of the largest by numbers, we firmly believe we are one of the best; measured by its people, our technical ability and delivery and our integrity throughout. Our Yorkshire team is no exception. The team has had the opportunity to work on some fantastic high-profile schemes wihin the region and surrounding counties, which are directly benefitting the regional communities in which they live and work. These have included the onshore ground investigation works for both the Triton Knoll and Sofia windfarms, and the site investigation works for the York Flood Alleviation Scheme, where we got to work within the considerable heritage in York city centre. We work on such a wide variety of projects that it's fair to say that every day is different. You could be in our office planning and preparing a ground investigation scheme, or producing a report for the Client based on the findings of the site investigation. You could be out in the field supervising site investigations of all sizes and complexities. Along the way you'll find yourself working in, and alongside the communities you're working hard to deliver for, something that really brings job satisfaction!
Geotechnics for you At Geotechnics we take great pride in being people focussed with integrity – our people are our most important and greatest asset and without our people we couldn’t do all the great work we do. As an independent company we have the freedom to do things our way. Placing importance on career progression is vital, but so is being flexible and encouraging a healthy work/life balance, and even encourage working across departments. We welcome and encourage a diverse work environment where people bring their whole selves to work. If you have the right attitude and passion Geotechnics may be a great place to further, or even start your career. But don't just take our word for it:
The potential to grow at Geotechnics is exponential. We carry out a staggering variety of projects and work. I will be working on multiple projects over a period of six months, but no two jobs are the same. Geotechnics is a friendly environment to work in and develop your skills in every area. I have grown as an engineer but also as a person. Matthew Jenkins, Engineer
