MOVIE L’Enfer / Dir. Henri-Georges CLOUZOT, 2009 This is a strange, stifling, brilliant, and very interesting documentary by Serge Bromberg about the unfinished movie “L’Enfer” (“Inferno” in english) by Clouzot. It depicts well the suffocating madness of a director having no budget restrictions and full control, loosing himself in a black-hole like creativity - a fascinating concept negative creativity I would say. The movie was abandonned, the actors left, broken, and the director had a heart attack. Definitely to watch as a great lesson on cinema and directing, but not on a sunday evening.

PROMO

Brilliant music video, brilliant song. I’m posting this one especially because it’s in direct relation with “L’Enfer” de Clouzot above. The director (Méndez) widely took over whole chunks of the style and a lot of effects from the feature movie. Both the track and the promo are surrealist, misleading, lewd, genius, lush, scary and funny. A retro esoterical third degree feeling really well rendered. Like any rip-of of amazing/genuine original artistic sources, it looks like the band and the director are hip, fresh and so creative. But still really enjoyable.

animation

It might feel already a little outdated but it reflects really well the stone-like reality of loads of 15-25 years old kids, where everything is about speed, self-solving matters, and effectiveness. The Irish director is now in L.A. on his way up, and works for himself on various selected projects.

How can I put this ... : the best animation video I’ve ever seen so far. It might be just my taste for witty, insolent, trashy and clever things but according to me “The external world” is genius. The genre is a bit young but we see clearly David’s potential if he decides to go feature or even comercials.

trend of the month Holy Batman, please pray for us.. What’s happening ? It started 5-6 months ago, super-heroes and saints/Jesus are being confusingly mixed. Patron saint : Batman. Are we so disconnected from spirituality than now it’s only us humans + super powers ? I’ll leave that for specialists.
