MOVIE

The Bothersome Man / Dir. Jens Lien, 2006 ‘The Bothersome Man’ goes far beyond the appearances. It is not an “artsy” movie you will sigh in front of. The writer Per Schreiner was awarded with the prestigious Ibsen Award in 2004 for his first radio theatre play, that just after became this movie. He wanted to “write a horror film for radio” - though it’s not a horror movie at all. He met along the way Jens Lien (who came back in Oslo after graduating from the London International Film School), and in the end they won 19 awards ! In the movie we follow Andreas, that appears alone on a desert, completely empty like wiped-out, and goes to a norwegian Ikea -type cliché city where he is offered a job, a flat, and goes on with life. Everything in the movie is a perfect balance of entertainment, contemplation, tact, humour, aesthetics ... the build up is as remarkable as the ending, where you realise you’ve been taken by the hand and find yourself feeling long gone emotions.

PROMO

A campaign very fun to watch, simply and humbly executed. The references to ‘Drive’, ‘Grease’ or ‘Breaking Bad’ aren’t to be hidden, and the directing is just great. Grading and set efficient, playful acting and clever casting. Nothing is there to convince, and what could it be when we have cute girls in skirts smashing a car with golf clubs You already know David Wilson from several music videos (Metronomy - ‘The Bay’ for example) and commercials. He won Best New Director at the British Arrows Craft Awards 2013. Go David !!

the art is

Well it’s not exactly a promo - but it is in the sense that we have a visual concept over a track. Here is ‘Cancer Slam’ by David Wilson on ‘Connection’ by famous Elastica. The car represents cancer, and the bubblegum pink girls are here to take it down !

POS1T1VE ge video covera dio about the stu I directed !

POS1T1VE wetplate photography / Mike Simpson & Daniel Ali . East London With this run for new technologies, how fascinating it is to see what we’re so used to call digital art, properly done as it was back on it’s origins ? ‘Sensitising’, ‘silver bath’, ‘UV spectrum’, ‘collodion’ ... this is Mike and Dan’s everyday vocabulary with the wetplate photography studio they established in Bethnal Green, East London. Check their website (clicking on the logo) to see plates and contact details !

trend of the month ‘Google Street View’, in theatres now ! After seeing a lot of the odd and peculiar things captured by the Google cars making pics of the streets, a genius tumblr took it to a new level - and it says it all on the title : “Google Street Scene, Moments from cinema captured by Google Street View cameras.” Brilliant.
