Troll Hunter / Dir. André Øvredal, 2010 Yes it’s about trolls. No it’s not a “Narnia Potter and the Throne of the Rings” movie, and although I would say it almost has it’s own genre, ‘Troll Hunter’ is closer from ‘The Blair Witch Project’. So : in Norway, a group of students looking for to make a good documentary finally get to meet Hans, a troll hunter ( ! ). Important to say right here that the film is for grown ups, clever and full of humour, non-pretentious and fun to watch. Don’t be misled by the quality of the effects that are well thought towards this direction. The script is just great, some moments can appear a bit obvious but nothing will make you sigh. Great directing, Øvredal has an eye for details which is actually always pleasant to notice. You know, one of those directors who treat you well. The movie had many wins and nominations, great well known norwegians actors on it, and good press.

This is a great progression for Mr. Little Jeans ! After her two famous titles ‘Runaway’ and ‘Suburbs’, we get a aspirational song performed with The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Youth Chorale. Very “faraway”, dreamy and dark-ish. Perfect fit as the whole theme is brilliantly put into pictures by Tim Nackashi and his team. A simple process with a watery glitter ball giving a romantic pace, dimmed small light points (thanks to Tom Banks D.O.P), and a set which is what the too much seen ‘Lolita Lempicka’ ad should have been more like. The whole music video is made with humility and taste.

It’s weirdly more than pleasant to watch celebrities reading harsh tweets about themselves in Jimmy Kimmel’s “Mean Tweets” section of his show. The latter was originally created as an excuse to celebrate Twitter 6th anniversary last March. Then continued until recently this month for the 4th episode due to a great success. Some of the tweets are really relevant and funny, some are a bit dark and mean. Interesting to see the stars’ reactions nonetheless ! But don’t fool yourself, as usual TV goes for glamorous looks, and works with tired ropes and cheap tape for the making. As the first episode contained only true tweets, it degraded with popularity, leaving the last episode with a large part of fake accounts and dodgy rehearsed tweet / reactions. Still, very funny to watch !
