PLEASE FIND ENCLOSED MY ARCHITECTURAL PORTOFLIO This is a selection of my academic and professional work and foregrounds the breadth of my design skills. I am an architect graduated on April 2015 at the University of Granada, after six years of education and training combined also with international experience. I have been awarded with distinctions for my academic projects and developed strong working and researching capabilities during my studies. My restless spirit has lead me to travel and meet people around Europe, work in international teams and exchange knowledge, points of view and influences with my fellows. I am interested in building sustainability, inclusive design and preservation of our historical and cultural heritage. For me, architecture is an art which intimately concerns everybody and lies in a compromise between the human being and the environment. My aim is to work together in a great team in an environment that challenges me to produce high-quality work and matches my interests in developing competencies with digital design. I am confident that through my skills, training and ability to synthesize new knowledge and integrate different systems of thought in collaborative environments, I can be an asset to your team. Thank you for your consideration and please, enjoy reviewing my work. Gerardo Ferreyro Salvador August 2020 gerardoferreyro@gmail.com

Arts and Crafts Faculty Tetouan, Morocco 11620 m2 Final Project of Studies

This project is the result of an investigation of the northern part of Morocco, an area called Tingitana, a corner of the world where Africa, Europe, the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea meet and where different cultures with different backgrounds have come all over the history because of its strategic situation. The investigation focuses on Tetouan, the biggest city of the region after Tangier. It was founded by the muslims expelled during the 15th by the Catholic Kings. During the 19th and half of the 20th century was an area controlled by Spain, and nowadays there are a lot of cultural and economical agreements between both countries.

CONTEXT The project take place in an abandoned military area. It consits of five military pavillions and barracks, built by the spanish army a century ago. The site is next to the ancient wall and fortress and on top of the hill dominating the city and the landscape. The idea is to revive this forgotten place, bring it back to the citizens and create a center of knowledge pledged with arts and crafts, so essential in the moroccan culture.

PROGRAM: LOCATION: SIZE: TYPE:

HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION SCHEIBBS, LOWER AUSTRIA 600 M2 MASTER PROJECT COURSE

In Scheibbs, Lower Austria, there is an old power station to be replaced, as the building is in poor conditions and the equipment needs to be renew. As a building in direct contact with the river and nature, and also a structure whose porpouse is to produce clean energy, I wanted also a social use for the people living in the surrounding area. The power stations of this kind consists on a room where the generator is allocated. The water is conducted beneath this room to move the turbine. The roof of the building is a shell that divides the interior space in tow parts, the power station and the social use and creates bleachers to utilize as an open-air theater or just to sit and admire the waterfall and the nature.

PROGRAM: LOCATION: SIZE: TYPE:

TRAUMA AND NEUROLOGY IN PEDIATRICS GRANADA, SPAIN 4900 M2 5TH YEAR PROJECT COURSE

A project of a big hospital was elaborated during the 20s but it wasn’t until the 40s because of the Civil War, when it come to reality, together with the Faculty of Medicine. The whole hospital is organised by pavillions interconected creating H shapes with a garden in the middle. This distribution is very usual in that period but over time, the necessities have changed and also the medical practices have evolved. The aim of the project is to refurbish the south-east pavillion to allocate an area specialized in children illnesses. That’s why it is important to rethink the concept of the hospital and consider the building as an space of serenity to heal and stimulate our youngest patients.

PROGRAM: LOCATION: SIZE: TYPE:

RESTING PAVILION CEE, LA CORUĂ‘A, SPAIN 120 M2 NATIONAL COMPETION

The centenary St. James Way has given an architecture of objects placed in the landscape, an architecture that has understood the nature of open spaces and has given a kind of meaning to them. A fountain to canalize the water that comes naturally, a little hermitage that gives shelter to the pilgrim, a space for rest and meditation, and a shed to protect from the sun or the rain, happens naturally in a complete dialog with the Way. Now is the time to connect all this things, to complet what is missing and value its virtues. The project build the line of the walk, creating two different spaces, an open one to the landscape and another one calmer in relation with the hermitage.

RURAL URBAN GROWTH URBANISM

PROGRAM: RESIDENTIAL AREA WITH EQUIPMENTS AND GREEN AREAS LOCATION: METROPOLITAN AREA OF GRANADA SIZE: 169800 M2 TYPE: 5ND YEAR URBANISM COURSE

The metropolitan area of Granada is of great interests because it is a network of ancient towns closely linked to the vast fertile plains. The roads follow the water paths and the towns have grown in accordance with the rural labors. Over the last century the people been moving from villages to the cities making a considerable change among them. Only the nearby villages have grown becoming the so-called dormitory towns. Those have been unconsciously planned and made no connection with the nature and the existing. For this project I propose a new urban district that consideres all the singularities of this peculiar location.

CITY OF CULTURE URBANISM

PROGRAM: LOCATION: SIZE: TYPE:

CULTURAL CENTER+APPARTMENTS METROPOLITAN AREA OF GRANADA 30000 M2 2ND YEAR URBANISM COURSE

Granada as a candidate for the “city of culture 2016” would provide a regeneration in some of the 19TH century industrial complex that are abandoned structures nowadays. The aim of the project is to uncover the qualities of one of these places and give them to the citizens. We focus our attention in the farmhouse “Cortijo del Rector” and propose to develop a cultural nucleus related with the University of Granada. It has a central position in the Metropolitan area and good communications with the city and the other towns, providing then activities and people in a natural environment.

The farmhouse consist in four long structures settled in a U shape, giving an internal protected space. The surroundings are fields and nearby there is also a river.

Our proposal reuses the old farmhouse as the main building of the complex, placing there offices, a library, lecture and exhibition rooms, cafĂŠ and restaurant. The new buildings follow the same patron as the old farmhouse giving a continued solution, learning from the rural knowledge and giving unity to the whole complex. There, we have student appartments that follows the trace of an irrigation ditch and creating internal gardens. The last building ends in a tower creating a landmark. Temporary appartments are placed there.

THE CHURCH AND THE TOWER OVER THE GATE TO THE CITY

ST JOHN’S FOUNTAIN SMALL INTERVENTION

PROGRAM: LOCATION: SIZE: TYPE:

IMPROVE THE PUBLIC IMAGE BRISTOL, UK 2 M2 VOLUNTARY

This project comes from the request of The Churches Conservation Trust to have a document with technical solutions and suggestions to improve the public image of St John’s fountain, which lies now in a poor state, to regenerate and recover this part of the medieval conduit system and to protect it from further deterioration and vandalism. It was done during my volunteering for Bristol Green Capital 2015 between June and July as an interesting opportunity to learn from the history of the city, get involved in an architectural issue and to contribute with my knowledge and experience to this part of the English heritage during my stay in the United Kingdom.

SITE CONTEXT:

St John is the only survivor of four such churches in Bristol which were built on the Saxon inner town wall in the 12th century. Walls and gates were favoured locations for mediaeval town churches because they offered opportunities to travellers for prayers before a journey, which could be turned to profitable advantage by the incumbent. St John’s Conduit is of high associative significance linking the present day church with its early foundation and relationship with the Carmelite Friary. The 19th century relocation has compromised its evidential significance somewhat, divorcing the church from its former function as guardian and provider of the medieval city’s water supply.

BRIEF: To improve the public image of the fountain and also to give a solution that will protect the fountain from vandalism, instead of setting a railing, I have designed a glass board to be etched with some information about the history of the conduit. This will work as an interpretation element as well as delimitating the room of the fountain. This, combined with a light coming from behind the arch, will improve notoriously the way it looks the fountain. There are two metallic plates which carry the glass, so that the walls of the fountain are not screwed and damaged. This solution is also detachable. LAYOUT OF THE GLASS PANEL

ENCOUNTERS renovation of a theater Program: Location: Size: Type:

Theater and Cultural Center Soller, Spain 1100 m2 Competition

The proposal responds to two main guidelines: first, bring an abandoned building back to life, which is of special protection, representative of an era and of great importance for the memory of Soller’s habitants. Secondly, the intervention meets the demands of a cultural facility with enough flexibility to hold different kinds of social events and spectacles, as well as providing safety and comfort, so all installations are reset to meet the building code. The design is in a contemporary architectural language, respectful, integrative and elegant. The structure of the terraces and its access, seats arrangement, and hanging ceiling are new elements. The façade, windows and historical elements inside are restored.
