Attend the Show
Gerber has made the decision not to exhibit at the 2022 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS). This decision was not made lightly. All of the impacted aspects to not attend were deeply considered. After much thought, the Gerber team came to a unified consensus: to further support the strong commitment to the wholesale channel, the company will plan several events across the country in all regions to connect more closely with our partners. This effort aligns with Gerber’s value of dedicated partnership with our customers. More event information will be shared in the coming months.

PROMISE PACKS Gerber partnered with World Vision to create 200 “promise packs” - bookbags filled with school supplies, hygiene tools, and notes of encouragement from Gerber employees. The packs were boxed up and shipped to children across the world in need of supplies to learn and prosper including insect repellent blankets, soap and toothbrushes, notebooks, pens and pencils, rulers, and more. World Vision partners with children, families, and their communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

Looking Back at Once-Considered Luxury – Ancient Toilets Were Kind of Crappy The oldest toilet to date was recently discovered in Jerusalem, a CNN article states. The toilet featured a small hole in the center and was made from limestone, which was designed for “comfortable sitting” according to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). A deep septic tank stood underneath. The toilet is estimated to be about 2,700 years old, right around the Kings of Judah period, before Israel was taken over by the Assyrians. These ancient private toilet cubicles are very rare, and were only affordable for the rich. Evidence of a nearby garden with fruit trees and aquatic plants was also found, leading researchers to believe that an extensive palace once rested on the site.

BOOK: T he Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness AUTHOR: Sy Montgomery RECOMMENDED BY: Joanna Karafotas, Senior Graphic Designer Why Joanna Loves It: After watching the movie, “My Octopus Teacher,” I became a bit obsessed with learning more about octopuses since they are considered the most intelligent of all invertebrates - contrary to past myths. Naturalist Sy Montgomery is like the Jane Goodall of octopuses: studying them closely at the New England aquarium over several years and also in the wild. She documents each one’s personality and explains the details of their behaviors. Fascinating! BOOK: E motional Intelligence for the Modern Leader AUTHOR: Christopher D. Connors RECOMMENDED BY: Carmen Fiordirosa, VP of Marketing Why Carmen Loves It: It is a very practical book that does a great job of leading the reader through self-reflection and documentation of purpose/ passion/why; a must for anyone in leadership. It can be awfully difficult to be honest with yourself but to improve your “EQ” knowing thyself is a must. This book is for all leaders no matter where you are in your journey. Maybe even more so for seasoned leaders as it can be easy to believe you’ve mastered emotional intelligence but really none of us have ever arrived.

Scott Ouyoung Founder of Globe Union
Keith Yurko, CEO North American Group, had the distinct honor and privilege to have a close relationship with Scott and penned the below message as a tribute to Scott’s legacy. If we are fortunate enough throughout our lifetime to meet people during our journey that are impactful to our lives, we are truly blessed. And for having known Scott, I am truly blessed. A RESPECTED MAN – Scott had an innate ability to earn peoples’ respect in the business world and on a personal level. A GREAT LEADER – His leadership was steadfast through the good times and challenging times, which means he was hard on his teams occasionally; all for what he thought was best for the company and our individual growth. A MENTOR/TEACHER – He exhibited patience to bring out the best in people even when they made a mistake, but held a high standard—do not make the same mistake twice! A DRIVER – Accountability and the commitment to keep promises were greatly important to Scott. A CARING INDIVIDUAL – He was kind to all of his colleagues and their families, and managed to make each person and family feel special. A CONFIDENTLY HUMBLE COMRADE – Scott never took credit for success himself but instead always gave it to others. He also was quick to take responsibility when he felt he was wrong. A GREAT FRIEND – Scott has been all of the above for many people, myself included, but I am grateful to say I was also able to call him a true friend. I will miss you my friend, but I am comforted by all of the wonderful memories we shared over the years that will stay with me through my lifetime.
