TESTIMONIALS On Business Delegation Trips “I would like to thank the GTCC for perfectly organising and executing a very interesting business delegation trip to Phnom Penh for GTCC members. During this 3 day trip we’ve met with high-ranking government officials, visited interesting companies and networked with representatives of German and European companies in Cambodia. Eleven Briefings, complete sets of information material and documentation, 2 TV interviews, 26 new business cards, countless impressions – that’s what I call an efficient market visit! Being responsible for the Lufthansa Group Sales in the Mekong Region I am definitely looking forward to the next GTCC business trip to another country in this region.” Mr. Dirk Grossmann, General Manager Passenger Sales Thailand & Mekong Region, Lufthansa

“My recent Industry 4.0 trip to Germany in October 2016 was one of the best study trips. It was well arranged to visit both MOTEK 2016 exhibition and factories. I have learned several experiences from many top German companies on how they implement Industry 4.0. Several schools of concept have more or less the same vision conclusively. But, their missions or approaches are somehow different. Individual approach is quite unique and interesting. They are also very informative. Knowledge learned from this trip would be very valuable to disseminate to Thai industries as a whole to improve competitiveness of the Industries. Thanks to the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce for arranging this trip.” Dr. Katiya Greigarn, President of The Federation of Thai Industries; RFDI Institute of Thailand; and KV Electronics Co., Ltd.

I would like to sincerely thank GTCC for organising the “German Study Trip on Sustainable Production in Tapioca Starch Industry Supply Chains” during May 1-7, 2016… This trip played a major role in broadening knowledge and experience of our project partners and key stakeholders on modern production technology covering energy and resource-used efficiency, value-added starch product, waste management and utilization, research and development, and competition in the global market…We received opportunities for face-to-face discussions and sharing experience with German companies and research institutes on development and implementation of sustainable consumption and production in real practices. We are extremely impressed from the beginning…by the strong commitment, genuine desire to help, and attention to detail to accomplish the goal of this trip by the GTCC personnel” Dr. Warinthorn Songkasiri, Senior Researcher of Excellence Center of Waste Utilization and Management (ECoWaste), National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)

TESTIMONIALS On Memberships, Events and Communication “[GTCC New Member Orientation Programme] was a well-organised event...The speed networking gave me an opportunity to get to know more executives in a short period than I would have if vising each one at their work place. We continued to attend the official monthly networking and as usual the GTCC has a better ratio of real business people than other chambers...” Tom Sorensen, Partner of Grant Thornton Services Ltd.

“...GTCC is clearly an excellent platform for improved networking...” Gabriele Piaggio, General Manager of Ducati Motor Thailand Co. Ltd.

“The e-UPDATE is a nice read on a much improved and useful article for all members. Thank you very much indeed and wishes GTCC e-UPDATE more success.” Dr. Gwin Pringpuangkeo, Chief Executive Officer of Chuchawal Royal Haskoning Ltd.

On GTDEE “…Of course, we are facing many challenges, since this is our first year of the programme. We don’t have a full time in-house trainer yet, so there is no full- time monitoring of the apprentices. We still need support in monitoring the progress from both sides – companies and colleges. Right now, our apprentices are working five days a week at the company and are attending their school on Sunday, which is rather hard for them. However, we are getting very good support from the GTDEE/GTCC...” Jittima Mahatthanaphon, Human Resources Manager of ThyssenKrupp Elevator (Thailand) Co., Ltd

German-ASEAN Business Council (GABC) The German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam established the German-ASEAN Chamber Network to provide a dialogue platform, strengthen regional co-operation and support regional trade and investment. The German-ASEAN Chamber Network has been developed into the German-ASEAN Business Council in order to better provide instruments to: • Exchange information between businesses and Chambers to improve the institutional representation and, ultimately, institutional support from Chambers to businesses • Formulate joint positions on issues concerning ASEAN trade and investment in order to enable companies to adjust their business rationale to current policy thinking of ASEAN key stakeholders as well as expected changes in ASEAN’s trade and investment climate. • Enable ASEAN policy-makers to identify bottlenecks of strategic importance for the implementation of the AEC Blueprint, including economic policies influencing ASEAN’s trade and investment climate; The Executive Director presented the ASEAN market and its growth potential to German companies interested in expanding to ASEAN at the following events:

• ASEAN Event, IHK Düsseldorf, 12 May 2016 • ASEAN Insights, HK Hamburg, 6 September 2016 • ASEAN Insights, IHK Magdeburg, 7 September 2016 • ASEAN Insights, IHK Frankfurt a.M., 8 September 2016

The Chamber representatives gave first-hand accounts of recent economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia, such as the increasing international integration through free trade agreements. They also provided valuable tips on market entry options for German companies, and described the opportunities and challenges of business expansion in this highly dynamic region.

MEMBERSHIP, EVENTS AND COMMUNICATION

4.

4.1. Membership As the biggest bilateral European Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, GTCC is well positioned to offer the highest levels of effectiveness and tailor-made services to its members. A strong commitment to constantly increase its activities has been demonstrated. The introduction of the e-UPDATE during 2016 has proved to be another successful channel for helping to enhance knowledge of business updates as well as close connection between the Chamber and its members. GTCC is facing the challenge to remain relevant for its members in the presence of growing online venues and social media. Making the Chamber increasingly visible and even closer to its members and the public has always been our goal. During 2016, the framework for electronic communications and membership activities was developed. The introduction of the e-UPDATE during 2016 has proved to be another successful channel for helping to enhance knowledge of business updates as well as close connection between the Chamber and its members. The launch of a new website in mid-2017, which will be highly proficient and available on hand-held devices, is anticipated. In addition, many other carefully planned activities will be unveiled in 2017. The Chamber’s most important resource are its members – small and medium sized and globally successful companies in Thailand and Germany. By the end of 2016 GTCC membership totalled 570, a decrease of 2 per cent compared with the end-of-year total of 580 in 2015. The Chamber’s gain of 72 new members comprised 51 ordinary members, 1 associate member in Thailand, 11 associate members in Germany and other countries, and 9 personal members. GTCC is carefully monitoring membership development and is working to identify and develop programmes to improve membership acquisition. New services and interesting activities have been consistently introduced to improve members experience and satisfaction. The GTCC YP was launched to enhance the prospect pool. The new members and new representative orientation programme is organized regularly to promote the member engagement.

I am writing to thank the Thai-German Chamber of Commerce for the arrangement of the trip to North Rhine-Westphalia from 17 to 22 October 2016. During the first few days of the trip, we were warmly welcomed by a few but most interesting and most prominent German companies and institutions, when we visited them. This would not have been possible without the help, connection and flawless co-ordination of the Thai-German Chamber of Commerce. The following days at the K-Show 2016 were also no less impressive. A high level of precision in planning all the transportations and accommodations also deserves a very special mention. So, thank you very much again! I am really looking forward to joining your future activities.” Khun Charak Trangadisaikul, Vice-President, BKF Group of Companies

“I would like to use this letter as an opportunity to express our thanks to the German Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok for organising the GTCC event, “Energy Efficiency in Buildings” in March 2016. It was a great pleasure for me to take part in the event. The professionalism of the GTCC management and staff as well as the quality of both the conference and the following customer visits were very impressive. Despite the fact that our company has been active in business in Thailand for quite a while and has a good customer base already, the GTCC managed to identify new customers for us, who so far were not known to us before, and who suit our product range and strategy very well. Furthermore, the GTCC arranged visits to the premises of these new customers, where we were able to meet the key persons in charge of the type of equipment that we produce. I am looking forward to taking part in other GTCC events in future.” Mr. Jens Lang, Sales Business Unit Flow Control, Holter Regelarmaturen GmbH & Co., KG

GERMAN-THAI DUAL EXCELLENCE EDUCATION

7.2. GTDEE service portfolio GTDEE has established a set of services for all participating par tners to ensure sustainable implementation of Dual Vocational Education and Training (DVET) in several areas. To ensure dual training on a permanently high level, companies, colleges and students interested in the GTDEE programme must go through several assessments to screen their competence status. Therefore, GTDEE has developed a selection procedure for companies, colleges and students. A company or college that provides “dual training” must fulfill certain requirements regarding the suitability of the training premises. A quality analysis system (DVQD) developed by GTDEE and BUSEM (Bangkok University School of Entrepreneurship and Management) identifies gaps in several areas, i.e., internal management, infrastructure and methods of teaching. After the identification of the gaps, GTDEE consults on all issues in DVET by advising, on curricula or training plan development or by conducting different types of technical workshops and seminars. In order to enhance a collaborative exchange between the co-operating partners, GTDEE has developed a set of E-Services to exchange relevant information between teachers and trainers, or for using E-Learning software for relevant training issues in technical professions. The objective of the examinations provided by GTDEE is to ensure a comparable nationwide standard in theoretical and practical examinations that will be certified by the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

7.3. Activities planned for 2017 Since education is a continuous development process, GTDEE will continue to work on refining dual standards in Thailand, with the goal of sustainability in order to push Thailand towards becoming the hub in ASEAN as follow: 1. Start-up the dual vocational education in German system in level “A” in Automotive Mechatronics at Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) and BMW Thailand; 2. GTDEE Examination for 216 apprentices, batch 2015 from 10 company partners (certified by GTCC); 3. Interim examination in automotive mechatronics for Mercedes-Benz Apprenticeship Programme 2016 and BMW Service Apprentice Program 2016 UNDER “PAL” in Germany; 4. Trainer Workshop for GTDEE Examination; 5. Teacher Workshop for GTDEE Examination; 6. Development of Examiner Board for the Centralised Examination Workshop for GTDEE Examination; 7. School assessment, development and establishment of a quality management system for vocational schools; 8. Development of AdA International Programme (Ausbildung der Ausbilder) ; 9. Development of a guidebook on “Dual Training”; 10. Development of the vocational training committee and working groups; 11. Consulting on education and training, such as curricula and training plan development, examination and assessment, essentials of dual education etc.; 12. German educational trainings, workshops and assessment promotion to company partners such as train-the-trainer and quality assurance.
