That Which Colors The Mind Michael Anderson Painting Chosen for Cape Cod Museum of Art For National Juried Exhibit An oil painting by Belleville, IL artist Michael Anderson has been selected for inclusion in INSIGHT, a Cape Cod Museum of Art national juried exhibition, March 18-June 20, 2021. Only 65 artworks were selected for the exhibition from 523 submissions by 272 artists from 30 states by juror Grace Hopkins, Gallery Director, Berta Walker Galleries. Hopkins notes that “As a gallery director I am regularly confronted with an aesthetic puzzle. But when you throw in the added thematic complexity of INSIGHT and the sheer number of works submitted, making a final selection was both a demanding and rewarding exercise in distillation.” 18
Gesso Magazine
Michael Anderson’s artwork, “That Which Colors The Mind”, is painted in saturated colors and depicts a lone figure emerging from darkness through a doorway into a brightly colored, light filled environment. Anderson describes the image as symbolic of his own recent artistic journey in which the use of new colors has led to personal revaluation and insight. Michael will participate in the recording of the Virtual Zoom Video Reception to be released publicly on April 2 and April 9. The INSIGHT exhibition is open to the public during regular museum hours. Founded by artists in 1981, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis, MA, serves its community through its outstanding art collection and diverse programming. For more information visit www.ccmoa.org

Cover Artist- Jennifer Reida
March 2021
Cover Artist Jennifer Lynn Reida I am a Native American Artist who lives with MS. Through my diagnosis in 2013, I have learned to be flexible with the mediums that I use in my art. Depending on my abilities at the moment I use graphite (pencil), charcoal, paint (acrylic, watercolor), pyrography (woodburning) and most recently, digital drawing. A yearning to travel during this Time of Covid. A need to learn and explore new cities, regions and countries. A longing for a more adventurous time. That is what drives this new project “Vintage inspired Travel Posters”. I take suggestions from my social media, or they are places that I myself want to travel to. I try and learn a little about each location so that when someone sees the art, they feel either at home or they would love to visit. I have 41 posters completed so far, all that can be found on Facebook and Instagram, and plan to continue creating.

March 2021
Gerry Ferrari Likes Stone Soup by Morris E. Fletcher The Stone Soup Galleries, in the Chesterfield Mall, has been offering art classes, workshops and drawing events for a couple of years. In 2018 the gallery owner, Cory Lawson, decided to offer a water soluble oil painting class and she offered me the opportunity to teach the class.
Ms. Ferrari was an experienced artist with skills in water color and oil paint. She was attracted by a sign advertising a new class in water soluble oil painting utilizing materials without objectionable odor and environmentally friendly. In the fall of 2019 I met Gerry when she joined the class and became my student. I am fortunate to work with her on a continuing basis as she develops her skills as an artist. Between our class sessions she originates other paintings and brings them to me to review.
Ms. Ferrari has now taken the class with me three times at Stone Soup Galleries and two times at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild. She, like many of my students, take the class repeatedly because we paint together in a studio setting, critiquing the work of one another, and learning from one another. The class is conducted as a studio collaborative where we all learn from one another and become colleagues. Geraldine Ferrari and her daughter, Jeanne, The students paint two paintings in each attended a movie at the AMC theater in the eight week class and I paint the first Chesterfield Mall before shopping in some assigned painting with them. Then we all of the shops in the mall. They entered the create a second painting of our choice in Stone Soup Galleries and experienced the the final four weeks of the class. art displayed by resident artists. 32

In addition to her artistic skills and her interest in continuing to improve, Gerry has exhibited her interest in growing and enjoying life in her years where many think their opportunity to grow and learn has passed them by. It is an honor to be her friend and teacher as I paint along with the students and enter my 80th year of life. We share a desire to keep busy and enjoy learning. When a tree stops growing, it dies.

Jake Bishop Being a colorblind artist has its challenges, but knowing color theory helps. By not being able to see the variations in shades of colors, my pieces are one of a kind and I can never duplicate them. It also gives them a unique look. While not photo-realistic, I strive to achieve as realistic of a look as possible. The color choices that I tend to use represent more of a Pop-Art style with bright yellows, reds, and blues. Although I mix my colors on a palette, sometimes I prefer to mix my colors directly on the canvas. This allows me to control blending from one color to the next and help with my disability. The average size of my work is around 4 to 5 feet and because of this, I can not only capture large amounts of detail, but the image itself creates a striking presence from the moment it is viewed. The subject matter I typically work with is the human body. Every face has a story to tell. If I am not referencing a pop-culture icon, the faces I capture tend to be painted and manipulated to make them more androgynous. I find that the best story is one that is personal to the viewer and by allowing my viewers to see what they want, they create their own stories. This adds to the complexity of each of my pieces during the creation period. I tend to use found materials such as journals or documents to create an undertone that enhances the overlaying image as well as the use of heavy applications of paint to give a thick texture to the piece. Every piece that I show has been created with a specific story in mind, and signed with my version of a Bishop chess piece- not just as a reference to my own name, but as a reminder to my viewers on how to approach the viewing of my pieces. Paul Seibert String Theory Given two pieces of string of identical composition, the one with the greatest diameter will be stronger. If two balls of string are of identical diameter and one ball has string of greater diameter than the other, that ball with greater diameter string will have a lesser length of string than that of the ball with lesser diameter string. The difference in length of the string will be proportionate to the difference in diameter of the string. A train leaves New York and travels at 60 miles per hour to San Francisco. If a length of string is extended from the front of the engine of a train to the end of the last car, the end of the string at the engine will arrive at the station first – assuming the train is traveling in a forward direction. String cheese is neither cheese nor string. 40
