WHY HCG IT Works so WELL Many weight loss programs put forth as potential solutions to combat our everincreasing waistlines. Mind and Body While hCG is an incredibly useful adjunct to our weight loss program, it is not a magic wand which melts fat away on its own: it takes effort on our part too. The good news is that the more we help it, the more effective it will be to help us lose weight. Let's begin with the mind. For the vast majority of patients this program will represent a change in dietary eating habits. Ultimately, this means a change in patterns of behavior. In every culture, the act of eating has come to take on much more meaning than merely providing fuel and raw material to sustain life and at the same time physical hunger has been broadened to the more general concept of appetite. Eating and appetite are influenced by our social networks, by our emotional states, by stress, by media and marketing efforts, by habits of comfort and convenience, by educational and economical status, and even by our abilities to shop for and prepare foods. Changing behavior is not as simple as having strong will power and it rarely happens overnight. It requires a concerted, sustained effort between patient and practitioner to reshape the behavior. Manageable goals must be set, progress monitored, stimuli must be identified and controlled, meals appropriately planned with contingencies set through solid problem solving strategies, and a social support system adequately engaged. Efforts made to address these important aspects of the mind and behavior are greatly rewarded in the short term with fast, effective weight loss and in the long term with better health and wellness. Weight Plateaus There are many reasons that weight can plateau or fluctuate during a weight loss program. Because of this, it is generally better to pay closer attention to body measurements rather than focusing on what the scale may read from one day to the next. Once a week at the same time of day and in the same consistent locations measure your neck, arm, chest, midriff, hips, and thigh. Fluctuations in the retention and elimination of water as the body loses fat and changes its composition are very common. Since the majority of the fat is ultimately eliminated from the body through having regular bowel movements, constipation can commonly cause a weight plateau. A past fixed weight or degree of obesity can temporarily pause weight loss until the body can establish a new basal metabolic rate. For females, the time around the onset of ovulation and menstruation can cause a fluctuation in weight. We realize eating only 500 calories a day you would lose weight even without the hCG. Simeons discovered that hCG triggers a response by the body to use abnormal fat stores for energy versus solely taking it from muscle tissue. must restrict your regimen to lighter workouts and no weight training. Some walking (less than 3 miles per day) is ok, a gentle elliptical machine workout and yoga (except for hot yoga) and/or Pilates are acceptable. If you have access to a sauna, it makes an excellent addition to the program. You must always drink plenty of water while in the sauna and exit immediately if any dizziness or lightheadedness occurs. Ketone testing: 1st thing in the AM, upon waking I suggest that you leave the ketone strips{ get them at your local pharmacy) on the bathroom sink or anywhere that you will easily remember to test yourself for ketosis 1st thing in the AM. Follow the instructions on the package and compare the result with the printed scale on the bottle. Your goal will be to remain in the trace to moderate range of ketones in the urine. Higher levels are not recommended for long periods as they are in indication that your body is not efficlentlv using the fatty acids for energy. If the test is negative, it may indicate that you are not in ketosis. In this case you MUST eliminate all fruits from your diet including tomatoes. Fruit is a significant source of fructose, which some people cannot process efficiently. If you are one of these people, the fructose may be preventing you from getting into ketosis. If you have eliminated the fruit and are not yet in ketosis the following day it may mean that you are over hydrated. Remember that the rule of thumb is to drink 112 half your body weight in water every day up to a MAXIMUM of 100 ounces per day (roughly 3 litres).

Mental Preparation: Recognize the need to lose weight. It is difficult to succeed in anything without a full understanding as to why you are doing it. Write down all the reasons as to why you are going to succeed with this diet. Remember, these goals are what will keep you committed and focused throughout the entire protocol. Physical Preparation: (1) Create an inventory of foods that conform to the hCG Diet. (See Appendix) Calculate the quantities that will be required to get you through the entire hCG Diet protocol, be it a short protocol or the 43 day protocol. Create a grocery list if you do not have enough in your current inventory. Remember, to purchase the appropriate spices and sweeteners.(Stevia, Cayenne, Ground Pepper, Dill, Garlic, Ginger, Non-iodized salts, etc…) (2) Prepare the first weeks meals ahead of time. Cook the meats thoroughly and keep refrigerated. Some menu items will be fine kept frozen. Not being prepared will make the diet more difficult to stay committed to. We have multiple recipes submitted by various customers that we know to conform to the weight loss plan. By diversifying your menu you don’t feel the desire to skip meals or cheat. The easiest way to set yourself up for failure is to not be prepared. Pre-cook 3 to 4 of your meals ahead of time. Grill your meats outside. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, try an indoor grill like the George Foreman grill. Meat may also be sautéed in water or baked. The purpose in precooking (primarily your meats) is to be prepared. If you are in a rush it makes it easier to get stuck in a bind with nothing on hand but a convenience store, restaurant, or vending machine. Those foods are tempting enough, especially when first beginning a change in lifestyle. SO, be prepared. Most likely you won’t gain cheating here and there but it will slow down the diet process for 1 to 3 days and for some people they lose enthusiasm and quit. Be prepared! Stay focused. It’s a very small sacrifice. The hCG diet is only days, not years long. It is short yet when done properly the weight stays off. Fast food, vending machines and convenience stores won’t prepare the foods as well as you will nor do most of their menu items conform to the hCG Diet. (3) Know your goal and starting point. Use charts to keep track of weight loss and inches lost. Monitor daily. Weigh yourself each morning after waking up and eliminating. Wear similar outfits to weigh yourself as each outfit may vary in weight. Keep your charts by the scale and near a mirror. We have found that for most people the first ten pounds lost are not noticeable. The following pounds will show significantly as well as the measurements will show significant reduction in inches. Choose a day to start. (STAY COMMITTED!) (4) Detox It is strongly suggested to complete a thorough detox, but is not required. This first step may help to increase energy. A thorough detox aids by releasing toxins that may have accumulated over many years. These toxins contribute to a bodies overall system becoming weakened. Completing a detox program can aid with mental clarity, metabolism function, decrease hunger and food cravings, decrease depression, and increase a bodies general overall health and vitality This phase is to be taken in conjunction with detox tea or pills . Eat the right Foods: Whole foods are the main key to a true detox. Consume only whole foods . Only drink water while detoxing; no coffee, alcohol, soda, or juices. (No breads, starches or sugars.) No meat or fatty foods, no processed foods (cheese, milk, etc…) eat whole vegetables, some polished grains. hCG Detox Dosage: Take ten drops three times a day fifteen minutes before or after meals. Take drops for the 7-10 days while detoxing. Wake-Up: Drink a cup of warm water with the juice of 1/4 lemon, this will stimulate the liver and help release digestive enzymes. Breakfast: One cup of hot oatmeal with a cup of fruit and 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon. Midmorning Snack: if hungry, eat an organic apple or pear and 10 unsalted raw almonds. Lunch: Eat one cup of legumes (lentils, split peas, beans, and chickpeas), a cup of cooked brown rice or quinoa, and a cup of raw or lightly steamed vegetables (include broccoli). For flavor, sauté onion, garlic, ginger, and turmeric in a teaspoon of olive oil and add to food, avoid salt. Drink a cup of ginger or licorice tea (this will aid in digestion). Mid afternoon Snack: If you’re hungry, eat celery and carrot sticks with 2 tablespoons of hummus. Dinner: Steam 2 cups of mixed vegetables; eat with a cup of brown rice. When you are participating in a body detox, make sure that you eat smaller meals throughout the day. A good diet plan to follow for body detox purposes is three or more servings of vegetables, with one of them being raw, three servings of raw, fresh or dried fruit, and three servings of salad every day. Raw fruits and vegetables are particularly suited for body detox, since they are able to clean out your digestive system effectively. If you need to eat your vegetables in cooked form, try to include at least 1/2 of it raw. You may consider mixing raw vegetables with cooked. Most Commonly Asked Questions: Q- What do I do if my weight loss plateaus? A- If the weight loss slows try the following: Increase water consumption (try to drink 1/2-1 gallon a day) and or green tea consumption Eliminate the fruits from two to one per day. If mixing vegetables, stop. Check all condiments for sugar content. If having constipation problems, try a laxative tea. This is usually very effective. It is not uncommon on this diet to have a bowel movement once every 3-4 days, if provided you are consuming plenty of fluids. This has not lead to any disruptions. If weight loss has hit a plateau for more than 5-6 days an “apple day” may be observed. In an Apple day you consume 6 apples within 24 hours with nothing else to eat or drink except water. Q- Should I take hCG during my menstruation period? A- If you are taking the drops and you begin your period continue the program as usual. There are no side effects. Your body will retain water more during this time and you may not notice as much weight loss, this will even itself out over time, try not to get discouraged. Q- Can I exercise while on the hCG diet program? A- We recommend a light exercise regimen. Speed walk at least 30 minutes every day. Yoga, Pilates and resistant weight lifting is a wonderful way to keep your strength up. However, high calorie burning exercise such as running and aerobics is discouraged as it will cause your body togo into starvation mode. Phase lll - Maintenance Phase ( after you have reached your weight goal) The maintenance phase is every bit as important as the weight loss phase. The purpose of the maintenance phase is to maintain metabolic function and customize your metabolic balance with your new weight. The maintenance phase lasts for three weeks and begins immediately after your last day of very low calorie dieting. During the maintenance phase you will increase your calorie intake to 1500 calories, making up 3 meals and snacks. It is important that these meals are comprised of healthy foods. You may now consume any meats, eggs, fruits, cheeses, milk, vegetables and low sugar dairy products. Avoid foods with significant starches such as corn and potatoes. Stay away from starches and sugar religiously. When they are combined weight gain will occur drastically. It is important to note that your new weight has not yet become stable (i.e. does not show violent fluctuations after an occasional excess.) During the maintenance phase it is encouraged to begin a regular workout routine of both aerobic and anaerobic exercises. 30 minutes of cardio per day and light weights with higher repetition. It is recommended to consult your physician before participating in any vigorous activity. During the maintenance phase you may reintroduce healthy oils into your body such as flax seed oil, extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Avoid the unhealthy oils such as vegetable oil and shortening. Butter may be consumed lightly. Make-up, lotions, and moisturizers are allowed during the maintenance phase. Once the maintenance phase is complete you may consume sugars, starches and healthy carbs in moderation. We recommend whole grains, oats, wheat bread, etc…) Avoid heavy starch and sugars such as those found in potatoes, yams and rice. Hydrogenated oils should be avoided typically found in some canned goods and pastries. Strive to stay away from processed foods. Avoid high volumes of fructose syrup in such things as canned fruit, fruit drinks and soda. During and after the maintenance phase you should not gain any weight. Continue to weigh yourself daily. If you experience a common 2 pound gain within the maintenance phase do not worry. However once the scale registers above a 2 lb. weight gain it is important to observe a “Steak Day” the same day the gain is noticed. Many clinics have discovered that a steak day will eliminate the weight. Steak Day: Drink plenty of water (1/2 to 1 gallon). Consume zero calories for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. For dinner consume a large unsalted steak. Eat with an apple or tomato. Phase 4 This is the lifetime maintenance of the program. Continue to keep sugars to a minimum, and introduce starches back to your diet very slowly. Continue to eat proteins and stay away from heavily processed or fast foods.
