Ten years of GETit

“GET IT WAS ORIGINALLY STARTED BY A SOUTH AFRICAN COUPLE WHO BROUGHT THE BRAND TO AUSTRALIA.

I worked for them as a Sales Manager and when they decided not to continue publishing the magazine, they offered me the opportunity to purchase the Get it Trademark in order to keep the magazine alive. It was 2011, and I literally had eight days to transition from an employee into a business owner. Paperwork, red tape, changing the business name, enlisting the creative team and getting the first issue out on time, was all part and parcel of the new look Get it. Believe me, there was definitely wine involved and a lot of late nights. I’m forever thankful for the support of my clients who gave me the opportunity to continue the Get it brand and start the learning curve (really sharp bend) of running my own magazine. I get a giggle when I look back at some of the covers and some of the stories we have run over the years and wonder what on earth I was thinking, but by most counts, they were all well received and we started the journey of creating our own identity. We’ve had the chance to interview some incredible local personalities and share the stories of amazing local families and their struggles, again for which I’m grateful. I think the most important thing that I’ve learned over the time, is that you have to trust in your team, have faith in their capabilities and their creativeness in order to deliver a product that’s different from the rest.

Moving forward, I’m loving the fact that pretty much each day I learn something new, have another hill to climb but can look back and say ‘What a ride’.
