In the deck of playing cards, the cards that depict a person are called face cards or picture cards. These faces represent a king, a queen and a jack, and hence have been named that way. The deck also contains one or more jokers, and these too are not considered to be face cards.
Those cards which do not depict any person have been assigned another term, that is, non-face cards. Other than the 12 face cards containing king, queen and jack of all suits, all the remaining cards in the deck are non-face cards.
