Music unites strangers and bridges racial divisions in this powerful story. It’s 1935 and an ambitious song collector for the Library of Congress visits a Texas prison where she meets Pearl, an African-American woman with a soulful voice and steely spirit. Featuring over 20 American folk and spiritual songs.
One woman’s mysterious tale of a life held in suspension. Alexa, a brilliant artist, flashes between the mundane chaos and poetic depths of her world, circling in on the moment when everything changed for her - the moment between Before and After.
They could not be more different: Anthony – the optimistic high school basketball star and Caroline, the chronicallyill, cranky pessimist. As they cram to finish their class presentation, they learn not only how to work together, but how much they have in common.
“A play of discovery—of self, of personal power, of the importance of heritage—but also a vivid reminder that the things that connect us are often stronger than the things which divide us.”
“Coble’s dialogue is both playful and touching and had the audience not only laughing, but nodding their heads with understanding”
