The sounds of The Temptations The four tops & the Marvelettes

We ARE Rising!

Our newly appointed Executive Director, Ms. Rasheedah El-Amin, who took over the leadership role in January of 2013 as our Acting Director, has done a wonderful job of taking us to new heights as we make sure that all citizens of our great city, state and region can enjoy the sounds of music, the sights of art and the words of progress as they visit this great theatre. Thank you Ms. El-Amin for leading the way. With the celebration of the Lyric’s three year anniversary on Oct 28, 2013, we were filled with pride regarding the accomplishments of the last three years, while remaining mindful that there is still much more to do. The increasing of our corporate support, seeking of grants and most importantly, the support of the people in our community will help to sustain the promise that the Lyric brings to many throughout the region.

– Abdul Muhammad, Board Chair “We Rise” are the words placed high upon a wall in the New Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. Three years later, I’m proud to say “We ARE Rising.” On behalf of the Board and as Chair of the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center Board of Directors, I am pleased to share with you that our 2014 Fundraising Season is starting on Feb 15, 2014 with the fabulous sounds of “Motown Magic.” Since the reopening of the Lyric on October 28, 2010, the focus has been placed on celebrating the history and influence of African Americans as well as other cultures. Through a variety of activities and events, this has proven to be a very diverse celebration indeed.

I am very excited to announce that you too can now be apart of history with our brand new Theatre Seats naming rights program (Claim Your Seat). What a great way to have your name placed on a seat in a theatre via a nameplate and show your support for this great Institution. More information regarding this opportunity is included in this program. Nothing great happens without great leadership and support, thus many thanks must be given to the Board Members for sharing their time, effort and talents with the Lyric. A big THANK YOU must be given to the Lyric’s staff and volunteers for working tirelessly to make sure the doors are open and that the people enjoy this great theatre. Because of their effort, “We ARE Rising!”

Thank you for joining The Lyric Theatre & Cultural Art Center for our First fundraiser for 2014- Motown Magic: The Recreation of Motown If you were here for The Lyric’s presentation of The Temptations Revue last February then you know you are in for a second round of magical, timeless tunes! There is something to be said about the staying power of Motown music. Whether you experienced first hand the unveiling of each hit song or not, this music continues to bring about positive memories that leave you with a smile on your face, makes you want to dance and sing along. Tonight we have the marvelous melodies of The Marvelettes (Please Mr. Postman)- one of Mowtown’s first female group to create a number one single. The spectacular sounds of The Four Tops (I Can’t Help Myself- Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch). And of course the hit makers themselves- The Temptations Revue (My Girl).

– Rasheedah El-Amin, Executive Director Please note that the fun doesn’t stop tonight. The Lyric will continue in our efforts to reach our mission to preserve, promote, present and celebrate diverse cultures through artistic presentation throughout 2014 with an assortment of wonderful entertainment… so stay tuned.
