The public park of Laugardalur is extended into the site on two levels. Lower level includes restaurants, cafes and public functions with access to underground parking. The upper garden level is the urban traffic zone with walking and cycle paths with seating areas. The green park will function as a m agnet for adjacent business area where there is a lack of restaurants and other services in the area, this site will be the “meeting place“ for many business people with its various cafes, meeting arrangements, conference area, etc. The office buildings will vary from 4-11 floors. The height is ruled by the sun direction into the central garden area as well as to create shelter from the strong easterly winds. The site will include all services needed for modern business. The buildings consist of pre-fab concrete structure and recyclable material with natural ventilation systems. Project info - 40.000 m2 office space - work in progress - 2007-2010.

The planning for such a cultural center as the music hall is a strong link is created to the existing old town and the main shopping street, Laugavegur. This link creates opportunities for further retail and service extensions and large underground parki ng (which are needed in the city center). Adjacent to the music hall the National Art University will be situated, bringing young people and vivid life to the area. The planning of the area will consist of all 1. Floor area as public, retail, service, cultural, etc. This will allow for free flow of city center visitors on pedestrian level, in and out of various buildings through streets and plazas.

Proposal for the Reykjavik music hall and convention center. THG Architects were the first runners up in the competition as well as receiving the Icelandic planning awards in 2006. At the harbor area in Reykjavik a new concerts hall, hotel and conference center with various office buildings shall rise. The area, as former harbor industry, a perfect place for the emblem of the great culture of Reykjavik. The concert hall is situated in a predominant site at the end of the old pier, visible from all directions along the coast line.

SPÖNGIN HOUSING AND CULTURAL CENT ER
Cultural and community center with connected housing for the elderly. Sponging is a community center in the Reykjavik suburbs with existing retail and basic services. The need for a cultural and community center is met with the new development. The center will house various activities of the city municipal, such as a city library, the community center Miðgarður, the association of the elderly, in addition to a cafeteria, meeting hall and outside area for cultural activities. The church and the police will also be situated in the house. Various services for the elderly will also be housed on the 2nd floor of the building. The housing for the elderly is connected to the service center and includes an indoor connection that runs through the housing development. The planning concept of the housing area is to create a unified, low rise building complex with sheltered gardens and indoor connection to all services for the elderly. This is possible with the “snake” like structure that bends back and forth to create pockets of garden area. The buildings step up and down from 1-4 floors allowing maximum sunlight to the garden area as well as opportunity for roof top gardens. Project info - Community center / 111 apartments - Finish 2010
