HD Ltd carried out works that included the removal of electrical supply, internal lining of external wall and external works at 14 Dunraven place, Bridgend. Bridgend County Borough Council granted listed building consent with a condition requiring an archaeologist’s presence during the works. Intrusive works needed to be carried out on the Scheduled Monument Bridgend Old Bridge (GM049) therefore scheduled monument consent was obtained.
Following the hand removal of the cobbles set into concrete in three small areas, excavation through sandy material was needed to locate the electric cables. The bridge was restored using lime mortar and the cobbles which had been removed were reused. During further works to correct electrical problems part of the earlier bridge structure was exposed to the south west.
