Nashville based brand imogene + willie is primarily recognized for their denim. Having recently expanded the company to include a women’s intimate apparel line, the following product development focuses on the introduction of loungewear to the already successful brand. Through the exhibition of trend research, company branding and technical garment drawings and specifications, the following work seeks to execute both marketing and design skills.

True artisans of denim, imogene + willie is a Nashville based company with a focus on authentic American made blue jeans. After refurbishing an old service station to create an eclectic and rustic storefront, owners Carrie and Matt, opened their doors to the public in July of 2009. In memory of Carrie’s maternal grandparents, imogene + willie signifies their close-knit family relationship that they were so gratefully blessed with. For it was through them that they learned how to live life with an open heart and an open mind; however, leading by example, they also instilled in them life’s greatest gifts; passion, integrity, and work ethic. By honoring all eight of their grandparents, as well as their parents and family, imogene + willie hopes that by instilling those very same core values, they will continue to carry on that same knowledge that was passed onto them. With denim in their blood, it came as no surprise that their focus would be blue jeans. To them, jeans symbolize a part of American’s heritage. As one grows, denim evolves with them, creating a personal relationship that is to each their own. With this in mind, imogene + willie seeks to provide that same realization through their brand. Beginning with their company team and ending with their products, they wish to provide each customer with a personable and hospitable experience that is stitched throughout all facets of the brand. In end result, they want their customers to get the same sensation that one feels from grandparents that love unconditionally, just like their grandparents showed towards them. imogene + willie offers an array of products for both men and women. Specifically for women, they sell tops and bottoms, as well as jewelry and intimate apparel. On the other hand, men attire includes tops, bottoms and boots. The shoe label Vans, can also be found at i + w. Their denim can either be custom fitted or ordered directly online and it is sewn right there in the back of the store. In collaboration with Nashville resident and self-taught furniture designer, Rababa AlHaddad, i + w sells an assortment of fashion and home products under the collection titled “Quantity of One”. It includes light fixtures, tables, rugs, prints, tees and accessories. Seeing that their expertise is in denim, they also offer jean repair services.

The makeup behind the success of imogene + willie is a result of many different attributes; however, it can be summed up into one simple word, soul. Imogene + willie is built on the dedication to provide honest products that are as personal as they are beautiful. Growing up where love and family was in abundance, owners Matt and Carrie wanted to create a brand that circled around those same principles. In an industry filled with factories and fluorescent lights, i + w sought to create a brand that circled around craft, quality, tradition, and most importantly family. Because imogene + willie has a strong focus on fit and aesthetically encompasses a sense of comfort and belonging, it is only fitting to expand imogene + willie by creating a collection focused around lounge atire. It will allow their already existing customers who seek out their brand, to get the chance to wear i + w apparel even on their laziest of days. Also, because we’ve recently expanded into intimate apparel, this will appeal to the customers who, although intrigued by this new brand extension, are in search of more cozy attire. Instead, this customer would rather sway towards something casual and versatile that they can either pair with their favorite i + w blue jeans or simply wear around the house as is. Due to modern day fast pace lifestyles, it is more prevalent then ever that apparel is as comfortable as it is functional. With people constantly moving, fashion must move with them, boosting demand for a new breed of casual comfortable fashion that is all together aesthetically appealing.

imogene + willie loungewear provides comfort while still being aesthetically appealing. Women don’t want to sacrifice beauty for comfort and i + w loungewear doesn’t ask them to. As beautiful and confident as they feel in their favorite pair of i + w blue jeans, would be the same sensation they’d get when pulling on that cozy cardigan or stepping into their wide leg jersey bottoms. imogene + willie is already a prominent brand recieving an immense amount of recognition; therefore, by incorporating loungewear into our array of apparel, it will expand our target market by attracting new customers with stylish loungewear that they cannot find elsewhere. It will further increase satisfaction with our already loyal customers by providing them with more apparel options to choose from. Already a prominent figure in regards to social media, it will increase both online and in house store traffic due to advertisements posted on our various social media networks, as well as inside the brick-and-mortar store.
