In This Newsletter: A letter from our new Executive Director 2019 Projects: Sneak Peek ! Volunteer Spotlight - Ghadi Tayeh Namlo News - Internship Available

A Letter From Namlo's New Executive Director, Laura Welland Namaste! It's with great excitement, and my deepest privilege, that I take on the duties of Executive Director for Namlo International. I first learned of Namlo while working in Nepal with Room To Read and Engineers Without Borders, attempting to build bathrooms and schools in the chaotic aftermath of Nepal's brutal civil war. Magda King, Namlo's founder, was determined to build a school in the community of Sabhung. She was

successful - not only building a school, but creating a women’s cooperative, two income-generating industries for the villagers (with a community building for the members to work in) and in bringing a badly needed water supply system to the community. These projects are completely self-sustaining today, the true test of an organization’s ability to make real, lasting change. Magda’s spirit, determination and knowledge are the foundation of Namlo, and as I follow in her footsteps, I commit to all of you - our beneficiaries, our supporters and Magda herself - to continue Namlo’s work with those traits at the core of all we do.

We have some wonderful projects planned for 2019! As many of you know, Namlo commits a five-to-ten year window of working together with communities that have shown that they’re willing and able to work with us to improve their own lives. We’re finishing up our time-frame in the community of Dhuskun with a continuation of our water supply project (in partnership with Engineers Without Borders Karlsruhe and the Nepal Government) as well as an expansion of our greenhouse program there, piggybacking on the soon-to-arrive new water source. The Dhuskun Women’s Cooperative and the goatkeeping project in Dhuskun are doing well and we’ll be compiling our data from these projects soon to assess their impact. Watch our website for updates. In the communities of Jalpa/Kothe and Arunodaya, we are only in our first and second years of working with the villagers via our school construction projects (replacing those destroyed in the 2015 earthquakes). Both of these communities have proven their desire to work for themselves and commit to long-term sustainability, and we hope to start several income-producing projects there (livestock programs and banana-plate making) as well as do a water supply assessment. We’ll be busy this year taking baseline surveys so that we can assess the projects’ impacts and sustainability in the future. Of course, none of these projects are possible without your help and support. As representatives of the real Nepali people whose lives your donations change, THANK YOU!
