From The President & CEO On October 16, we hosted a topping off ceremony for the new Spagnoli Family Cancer Center and Physician Office Building in which the last three beams, signed by employees, board members, patients and visitors, were put into place and secured. Topping off ceremonies are a tradition amongst construction companies and ironworkers marking the end of steel construction on a project. I was proud to witness, along with many others, another milestone in the growth or our hospital.

Scott Batulis President & CEO

Once complete in Fall 2016, our new 153,000 square foot, five-story Physician Office Building and 26,000 square foot, single-story Cancer Center will offer many outpatient services currently provided at other off-campus locations. Both new buildings will be patient-centered healing environments with the latest technology and amenities. We will also be adding more than 800 convenient parking spaces.

At the ceremony, Jonathan Rouis, Orange Regional’s Foundation Chairman, announced the kick-off of a $3 million “The Future is Orange” Capital Campaign to help fund our expansion. The goal is to raise $2 million in support of new equipment, $500,000 to create an endowment fund for academic research and education, and another $500,000 to support a healing environment to include a rooftop gathering space along with interior and exterior artwork. With our construction and new Campaign at the forefront, our growth promotes expert physicians, outpatient medical services, general wellness, integrated medical care, academic medicine and comprehensive cancer care services. My hope is that employees will see the value of our expanding services and consider contributing to our fundraising effort whether financially or by volunteering to raise money. With your help, we will continue to be a robust and local healthcare destination serving the health needs of our community. Sincerely,

Scott Batulis, President and CEO

Orange Regional Earns 5-Star Rating By Healthgrades® Orange Regional has achieved 5-star ratings in bariatric surgery and natural childbirth deliveries from Healthgrades®, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This recognition distinguishes Orange Regional for its superior outcomes in surgical techniques to support weight loss efforts and in natural childbirth deliveries, as measured by in-hospital complication rates. In the 2015 bariatric surgery performance evaluation, Healthgrades compared hospitals with statistically worse than expected performance (1-star), as a group, to those with statistically better than expected performance (5-stars), as a group. It found that from 2010 to 2013, patients having bariatric surgery in hospitals receiving a 1-star rating, on average, are 3.6 times more likely to experience one or more complications than if they were treated in hospitals with 5-stars. We are proud of our outcomes. For pregnant women, there are significant benefits to selecting a hospital that has achieved a 5-star level of performance in natural childbirth deliveries. In the 2015 natural childbirth delivery performance evaluation, Healthgrades compared hospitals with statistically worse than expected performance (1-star), as a group, to those with statistically better than expected performance (5-stars), as a group. It found from 2011 to 2013, patients with a natural childbirth delivery in hospitals with 5-stars have, on average have a 44.5 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals with 1-star. We are proud to have achieved this recognition. To view the complete evaluations and white papers, including full methodology, visit: www.healthgrades.com/quality. -1-

Orange Regional Announces 3-Month Early Mobility Trial Orange Regional’s Intensive Care Unit is conducting a 3-month clinical trial protocol for early mobility. The Early Mobility Team's goal is to identity patients for early mobility by mobilizing non-intubated and selected intubated patients. During each multi-disciplinary round, patients are assessed based on eligibility criteria that is used during the selection process for early mobility. The purpose of early mobility is to improve the patient’s functional status at the time of transfer from the ICU, which involves physical therapy at the earliest appropriate time during the patient’s stay in the ICU. For feedback or suggestions, please contact mkrishna@ormc.org, agilani@ormc.org or mtirpak@ormc.org.
