A newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers
August 2016
From The President & CEO I’m excited to announce that we are in the home stretch of our North Campus construction project. On September 26, we will open the doors to our new Physician Office Building (POB) and Cancer Center (CC). Though there are still many things to do in preparation for our first patients on opening day, I want to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has worked so diligently on this project. It’s important that we continually grow and expand our services to better provide our patients with quality healthcare and our community with services that are accessible to where they work and live. Our new POB will be home to our growing medical group and our new urgent care service. We offer Primary Care physicians as well as specialists in Cardiology, Breast Surgical Services, Infectious Diseases, Orthopedics, Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine, Rheumatology, Surgery and Urology. Depending on your health insurance plan, there may be no co-pay for you and your family when using Orange Regional Medical Group. Scott Batulis President & CEO
Additional services that will be located in the POB will include the breast center in which all mammography technology will be 3D. Our diabetes center and nutrition counseling will be located here along with same day surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, a retail pharmacy, a bistro and the majority of our outpatient diagnostic imaging services. Other departments such as Medical Education will also reside here. Furniture is being fitted and custom artwork is being mounted throughout each building. New medical equipment is being installed such as the Truebeam technology, the latest in image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery that delivers more powerful cancer treatments with pinpoint accuracy and precision. Site work is nearing completion with final paving underway and landscape designs and installations just about finished. Our main lobby entrance will be done shortly with its new exterior look matching that of our new buildings. In addition, we are currently working on a fitness trail that will complement our campus and provide a scenic walk for patients, visitors and employees. This is an exciting time for our organization. In celebration, I hope to see you at our Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 17. Please bring your family and get a sneak peek of our new facilities. We will have tours, lunch and entertainment for the whole family. Sincerely,
Scott Batulis, President & CEO
General Annual Education 2016 (AED) Annual Education has been assigned in Healthstream and is due by November 30, 2016. There will be some overlap in modules between the POB/CC courses and AED. You will not have to do the courses twice. For those who have completed the required courses for the POB/CC orientation, you will get 'credit' for those courses for AED. For example, all Environment of Care courses are required for both the POB/CC orientation and AED so once you do them under the POB/CC curriculum; they will show as complete for AED. The OD&L team can answer any questions, please reach out to Naomi (ext. 0228); Scott (ext. 0223); Elizabeth (ext. 0226); or Betsy (ext.0227).

The Orange County 4H Hare Raisers delivered cancer care kits to the Spagnoli Family Cancer Center. Their annual community service project included handmade knit hats, origami cranes and ribbon key chains. The group includes students Miranda Castro, Rachael Cesarz, Kacie Douglass, Casey Hill, Dylan Hill, Gabe Eherts, Teddi Matthews, Kieran McCarthy, Julie Vigilante and Brandan Weiss. The 4H Club has made projects for cancer patients for the past few years since their leader, Paula Schutz, underwent treatment for breast cancer. “We understand that battling cancer requires a team effort and we wanted to be part of that effort, letting patients know that someone is always thinking of them and praying for them, and that they are not alone in their battle. We want patients to know that we believe they are strong and can tackle this one day at a time,” said Paula.
The Mid-Hudson Dental Hygienists’ Association visited Orange Regional’s Spagnoli Family Cancer Center under the direction of nurse leader, Sharon Geidel. Mid-Hudson Dental Hygienists’ Association Treasurer, Christine Herschel, and President, Dawn Mahodil, (pictured) provided a brief in-service to a number of the Oncology nursing staff. The goal was to provide support and assistance to the oncology nurses and patients to aid in any oral health and/or systemic health needs based on the treatment cancer patients undergo.
