A newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers

September 2016

From The President & CEO It is with great pleasure that I congratulate our staff on another historical achievement for Orange Regional Medical Center - the opening of our new Outpatient Building and Spagnoli Family Cancer Center. Thank you to all who worked night and day to get these buildings ready for our patients, on time and on budget. Relocation of outpatient services and offices were smooth and safe. I’m grateful for your hard work, dedication and commitment to these projects for the benefit of our patients and our community. The Outpatient Building, will offer urgent care services seven days a week 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and primary care and multi-specialty care services all through Orange Regional Medical Group, which employs Scott Batulis President & CEO approximately 100 providers. Diagnostic services are extensive and state-of-the-art. The new outpatient surgery and procedure center is excellent and will expand as demand increases. We also added significant space for Medical Education to host our growing number of medical students from Touro College and our six Residency Programs. Our Cancer Center offers the newest technology available for the diagnosis and treatment of many types of cancer including 3D mammography and the best radiation therapy technology available anywhere in the world. Our infusion center combines compassionate care and a beautiful new viewing garden to comfort our patients. It is our expectation that in the future, as technology improves, more healthcare services will be provided in the outpatient setting. Our new facilities position us perfectly to provide high quality medical care and outpatient services in a beautiful healing environment. Combined with the new hospital, these new buildings and the services provided create a world class, one-stop destination for all patients and a convenient, fully integrated campus for our physicians. It also offers exciting opportunities for our employees and students. We should all take great pride in what we have accomplished and embrace our exciting future. Together, the hard work and dedication that each of you put forth help to make dreams become reality. Our new hospital and now the Outpatient Building and Spagnoli Family Cancer Center are proof that together, we can only grow stronger. Sincerely,

Scott Batulis, President & CEO

Outpatient Services Relocate to Outpatient Building and Cancer Center The relocation of various outpatient services and Orange Regional Medical Group took place on September 26 from the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion and Goshen Patient Service Center to our Outpatient Building and Cancer Center located at our main campus - 707 East Main Street in Middletown. Services relocated from the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion to the new Outpatient Building include Orange Regional Medical Group, Outpatient Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Pre-Surgical Testing, the Ray W. Moody, M.D. Breast Center, the Dunkelman Diabetes Center and the Laboratory. In addition, oncology treatment services previously offered in the Orange Regional Medical Pavilion have moved to our new Spagnoli Family Cancer Center. Services relocated from the Goshen Patient Service Center to the new Outpatient Building include the Laboratory, Registration and Diagnostic Imaging. Radiation Oncology services offered at our Goshen location will be moving to the new Spagnoli Family Cancer Center in November. The new buildings also feature new space for Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation as well as our Infusion Center, which was beautifully transformed to offer more comfort to our patients. Orange Regional Integrates eMOLST Access Orange Regional has improved its clinicians’ focus on providing excellent end-of-life care by encouraging conversations with seriously ill patients and their family members. Orange Regional recently completed a key milestone in this project by improving providers’ access to the New York State eMOLST Registry. eMOLST allows clinicians to capture patients’ end-of-life orders and accompanying documentation to ensure patients’ wishes can be honored at all times and in all care settings. The Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) Program helps ensure quality end-of-life care through shared, informed, decision-making conversations between seriously ill patients, their families and healthcare professionals. MOLST orders are documented on the NYSDOH MOLST form and must be signed by a physician. The electronic version, eMOLST, is a secure, web-based system that allows for both MOLST form completion and documentation of the discussion in a centralized database that also serves as New York’s Registry for these documents. eMOLST allows health care professionals to complete the entire MOLST process online and guarantees that the orders and all necessary documentation of the conversation are always accessible. Our IT department has taken an extra step to integrate eMOLST into the Epic Electronic Medical Record for easy access by clinicians and other hospital staff. This integration simplifies the login process and search function for providers and allows a patient’s eMOLST orders to be retrieved quickly. Our clinical staff, led by Dr. Emma Fattakhov, Medical Director for the Palliative Medicine Service, are incorporating eMOLST discussions into routine patient care for individuals who are appropriate for these conversations. MOLST orders are only recommended for people who are seriously ill and close to the end of life. MOLST orders must be honored whether the patient is at home, in the hospital, in a nursing home, or in any other setting. eMOLST helps ensure accuracy in MOLST completion and guarantees accessibility to these critical medical orders in an emergency. -3-

Inspired Caregiver Award On August 10, Lou Milosevski, of Diagnostic Imaging, was presented with the Inspired Caregiver Award for helping a family member of a patient. “I would like to express my profound appreciation to Lou Milosevski, an x-ray technologist, for his expertise in assessing the gravity of my leg’s condition. His quick thinking prevented my leg from being amputated. More importantly, his actions saved my life,” said the family member. In January, the family member had surgery for pain in the right leg and the pain persisted through the time the he and his wife visited Diagnostic Imaging for her scheduled appointment. That’s when they met Lou, who noticed his pain and examined him promptly. As a result, it turned out that the family member’s leg was full of blood clots. After treatment, this family member is pain free and grateful to Lou, the staff in Diagnostic Imaging and to his surgeon.
