From The President & CEO We should take great pride in our recent Triennial Joint Commission Survey. We had an outstanding survey with a modest number of “standard” level findings which, for an organization of our size and growing complexity, is amazing.

On behalf of the entire Executive Team, thank you to all those who made the survey a success including our Quality Team, Leaders and IT staff who ensured that the survey process ran smoothly. We are particularly grateful for those that went above and beyond during tracer activity. Our surveyors were very complimentary of the staff they met and everyone’s enthusiasm for their work.

The Joint Commission’s survey visit closes a fantastic year, second only to the year we opened the new hospital. We were recipients of multiple national recognitions, relocated services and opened our new Outpatient Building and Cancer Center.

Looking ahead, we will continue to strive to provide the highest quality of care possible to our patients and offer the programs and services that our community expects and deserves.

Bone and Joint Accreditation Orange Regional has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The certification is a hallmark of excellence and reflects the organization’s commitment to providing quality of care for patients having joint replacement surgery. Orange Regional Medical Center is accredited by The Joint Commission.

To achieve this certification, Orange Regional underwent a rigorous onsite review. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with disease-specific care standards and total hip and total knee replacement requirements, including orthopedic consultation, and pre-operative, intraoperative and post-surgical orthopedic surgeon follow-up care. Congratulations!

Congratulations Rona Heublum-Colton, MD (ORMG/CRMG) has been appointed Urgent Care Medical Director for all GHVHS Medical Group with locations in Monroe, Middletown and our Sullivan County site planned to open in 2017.

Joseph Chavez Carey, MD (ORMG) has been appointed as Primary Care Medical Director for our Orange County based practices including the Monroe and Middletown offices. Dr. Chavez Carey has served in this interim role since December 2015.

Please congratulate both Dr. Heublum-Colton and Dr. Chavez Carey and wish them success in their new positions.

In The News Congratulations to the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Members of the department authored "Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA)" a case report outlining the "Importance of Urinanalysis in Patients Presenting with Pulmonary Cavitary Lesions." The report was published in Volume 1, Issue 4 of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Awesome job!

Welcome New Employees

Congratulations

Partners in Performance (PiP) Excellence has awarded our Hospital with the 2015 Silver Award for Performance Excellence. We officially accepted the recognition at the PiP Annual Conference last month at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Thoroughly examined through the same rigorous process and guidelines of the national Malcolm Baldrige Award for Performance Excellence, Orange Regional was recognized for leadership, workforce engagement and favorable clinical and customer experience outcomes.

The October 2016 winner of the Glycemic Bus Pass Award for Outstanding Care of Persons With Diabetes is 4 South. The Unit has been awarded the “Nugget” for sustained, improved glycemic results and exceeding the goal (and often the stretch) for timely nursing reassessment of hypoglycemia. Congratulations to Robin Sells, her team and the providers who care for our patients there.

In The News Hudson Valley News Network (HVNN. com) visited the Outpatient Building on November 18 to spend some time with Orange Regional Medical Group’s Director of Urgent Care, Dr. Rona Heublum-Colton.

During her interview, Dr. Heublum-Colton explained the differences between Urgent Care and Emergency Care. This healthcare segment also offered great exposure to our Medical Group and new Urgent Care location as well and the inner workings of our beautiful Outpatient Building and the services within.

Touro Students Deliver ‘Get Well’ Wishes

On November 21, several students from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Middletown, NY, visited Orange Regional to deliver a very special donation of ‘Get Well’ and holiday cards for our pediatric patients. The students created the cards in support of their commitment to making a positive impact in their local community.

In the holiday season, they believe this was a perfect way to bring about some smiles. We’d like to thank each and every student for such thoughtful and creative donations!

Our Award-winning Donors Congratulations to our donors of the Future Is Orange Campaign. They received a “Tony Award” at Greater Hudson Valley Health System Quality Awards at West Hills Country Club. This special recognition acknowledges the impact our donor family has on Orange Regional and our recent ability to open the new Spagnoli Family Cancer Center and Outpatient Building. We can’t thank you enough!

A Season of Giving

We are thankful for a visit from Hailey’s Hope Foundation to our Rowley Family Birthing Center NICU! They delivered gifts, financial support packages, lullaby CDs, and Welcome Home Care Packages for our NICU families.

Orange Regional hosted its annual breakfast with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus on December 17. A special thanks to the Town of Wallkill PBA for bringing along the cast of Frozen and the Grinch to give holiday cheer to those who attended. A huge shout out to our Food Services and Security Departments for pulling this festive event together.

Our Finance Department is in the holiday spirit as they volunteer at the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley - sorting and boxing items, and assisting with mailers.

This food pantry distributes over 15 million pounds of food items to local pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in our area and receives donations on a daily basis depending on volunteer availability. Thank you to our Finance Team for giving their time to such a good cause.

To kick off the holiday season, the Middletown Elks Lodge visited Orange Regional for its annual Teddy Bear donation. The Elks presented our Pediatric Department with a $300 value in teddy bears to provide our smallest patients during the holidays.

The Elks, accompanied by Santa Claus, also stopped by our lobby to take a photo and deliver holiday cheer. For that, we are thankful.

Palliative Care Symposium

Recently, we hosted our first-ever Palliative Care Symposium! This event was designed to educate nurses, physicians, social workers, practice nurses, clinical and support staff to identify evidence-based practice, best practice, and the latest developments in palliative care.

Treasuring Your Benefits The Human Resources Department held its Annual Benefits Fair in Conference Rooms 1,2 & 3 on November 18. This year’s theme was “Treasure your Benefits” and Human Resources staff dressed up as pirates as they helped employees navigate the treasure trove of booths and information. Vendors varying from Sam’s Club to Aflac to Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield set up booths throughout the fair to share useful information and free goodies to Orange Regional Staff. The fair featured an impressive array of prizes that participants of the Benefits Fair Scavenger Hunt, where staff members while visiting each booth filled out a benefits quiz and once complete, were entered into the contest for a chance to win. If you need any assistance with your health benefits, contact your Human Resources Business Partner at x1900.

Diabetes Education Event Orange Regional and Catskill Regional presented a free and informative diabetes program “Do A Diabetes 180: Turn Your Health Around” in November.

Diabetes educators and experienced physicians were on hand to discuss topics such as Diabetes and You: Circling Back on Your Health, Do a Meal Plan 180: Diabetes Super Foods, DiabeteZzz’s: The Importance of Getting Enough Sleep and more. Guest speakers included Elliott Friedman, MD, FACE; Alan Schaffer, MD, FCCP, FAASM and Director of the diabetes programs for Greater Hudson Valley Health System, Shelly DeHaan, RD, CDE. -6-

Patient Satisfaction Celebrated Congratulations to 3 West and the Behavioral Health Unit for having the highest patient satisfaction scores in the second quarter of 2016.

In addition, 2 South had the highest scores for both the second and third quarter and the Rowley Family Birthing Center had the highest scores in the third quarter, as well.

Well done!
