An award winning newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers
May 2017
From The President & CEO
During Hospital Week and Nurses' Week, we recognize our colleagues for all that they do and especially a select few for going “above and beyond the call of duty”. This year, I’m pleased to share that our Medical Staff and Board of Directors honored Dr. Adrian Paraschiv with the 2017 Leadership Award and Dr. Robin Karpfen with the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award. We celebrated these outstanding physicians at the annual Physician Recognition and Awards Ceremony in April. Scott Batulis President & CEO
We honored many employees last month at our annual Employee Service Awards Dinner. Special congratulations were extended to Linda Lanfear and James Bellotto for celebrating 45 years of service to our organization.
Congratulations to Linda Dickman, RN, Same Day Surgery, who was the First Runner Up for Nurse of Distinction (NOD) in the 14th Annual 1199 Joint Labor Management Initiative Award Celebration. I am also pleased to recognize three other Orange Regional NOD semi-finalists: David Aguasca (Novice), Virginia Grieb (Preceptor) and Linda Prioleau (Leader). CURE® Magazine, selected our Oncology Nurse Navigator, Sara Sargente, RN, OCN, as the national winner of the 2017 Extraordinary Healer® Award for Oncology Nursing. She provides support, guidance and coordination of care for her patients and their families from diagnosis to survivorship. Congratulations Sara, you are truly deserving of this prestigious national award. Congratulations go out to our Bariatric Surgery Department for its recent re-accreditation as a Comprehensive Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). We also congratulate all staff who planned and supported the official opening of our new fitness trail. The recent ribbon cutting ceremony was a spectacular way to encourage our staff, their families, patients, visitors and our community to stay active. I’d also like to congratulate Catskill Regional Medical Group as it recently celebrated the grand opening of a new, state-ofthe-art Urgent Care & Primary Care facility in Monticello. We wish physicians and staff the best of luck in caring for our community from this beautiful new office. And last, but certainly not least, a very special thank you to our Information Technology (IT) team for its hard work and diligence in responding to the recent global ransomware attack. This attack required IT to patch all servers so we are protected against the Microsoft vulnerability this ransomware exploits. Please remember to take all precautions while using your electronic devices. Sincerely, Scott Batulis, President & CEO
Fitness Trail Dedicated On May 11, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place to dedicate our fitness trail located at the Main Campus. As we celebrated Nurses' Week and Hospital Week, we were happy to provide a new opportunity for our staff, visitors and the community to enjoy nature while being active. This mile-long trail is lined with bird houses, benches, workout equipment and a yoga platform. A special thank you to the Nursing Department and Foundation for raising funds to make it a reality.
