What A View! Thank you to our Grounds and Maintenance crew for tending to the spectacular viewing garden just in time for summer. The garden is currently filled with beautiful pink and red roses. Did you know each colored rose has a different meaning? A red rose symbolizes love, while a pink rose symbolizes gratitude and appreciation.

Two years ago, Orange Regional’s SICU and MICU were accepted into a nationwide research initiative by the Society of Critical Care Medicine. This research project surveyed the utilization of an evidence-based ABCDEF Bundle practice for improvement of patient and family outcomes. The research included pre and post staff surveys along with extensive data collection on intubated patients. Dr. Aamir Gilani, the team leader, was instrumental in the development of the early mobility program, creating a rounding report specific to the bundle for daily rounding and coordinating the data collection. Nicole Sewell, Director of MICU was a great support to the research and implementation of the bundle practice. Jessica Gerlach was most helpful with the IRB approval process. Thank you to Touro Medical students Nakia Sarad, Bryony Lucas, Amanda Tabone, Kate Flanagan, Harshal Lal, and Donya Nazery for their diligent efforts in data collection! Thank you to Melody Tirpak, MSPT, from our physical therapy department for her early mobility initiatives and for joining us in Chicago for the implementation of the study! We would also like to credit the IT department, who was instrumental in the creation of the CAM-ICU, RASS, and CPOT documentation as well as the ABCDEF rounding report. Special thanks to all the ICU nurses and all the respiratory therapists who worked together to create successful awakening and breathing trials, as well as to provide early mobilization with the intubated patients for better outcomes! National EMS Week During National EMS Week (May 21-27, 2017), we said a big “thank you” to the men and women of our emergency medical services, who selflessly help others within our community. We are truly thankful for all that you do! Dr. Mohammad Siddiqui presented a lecture entitled “Penetrating Trauma – Basic Concepts” to more than 50 EMS personnel who work in conjunction with Orange Regional Medical Center. The presentation was one of three during National EMS Week and was geared toward educating our local EMS on best treatment practices before patients arrive to the emergency department.

Employee Health And Wellness I am thrilled and beyond excited to be the GHVHS Wellness Coordinator. You might have seen me this year in Employee Health for annuals or I might have cleared you to start working at our beautiful campus. In addition to working with the Employee Health Team, I have been creating employee wellness programs! A couple exciting programs that just recently kicked off include the Yoga for Employee Wellness and Reiki for Employee Wellness. Both programs are focused on decreasing stress. The Yoga program will be an ongoing series that all employees are welcome to join at any time. Look for the flyers and all user emails. Caring Arts Modality (CAM) therapy has had a big impact on our patients. With the help of the CAM Coordinator, Judy Maloy, we developed a CAM/Reiki wellness program for all employees. You can sign up for your private session in Employee Health on Healthstream under “GHVHS Reiki for Employee Wellness.” Right now, it is offered every other Thursday. Also, please don’t forget about E4 Health, our employee assistant program that is free, accessible 24/7, and confidential to all employees. Please contact me with any questions or suggestions. I am available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 333-2060. Rebecca Quicksell, RN Wellness Coordinator

Recipe for Delicious Summer Water Ingredients: Lemons, cucumbers and basil (or add any fruit). For a large dispenser (over a gallon), use two large lemons, one large cucumber and a handful of basil. The longer it sits, the more it diffuses and the better it tastes. Enjoy and be refreshed!

Getting Their Game On GHVHS Administrator of Revenue Strategy & Managed Care, Will Scheuermann, and the Mid-Hudson Civic Center Adult Hockey League team he plays on, “The Anklebreakers”, recently won the Senior D1 Division Championship by a score of 4-3. Will scored the winning goal in the 3rd period with a wrist shot coming down the wing from the bottom of the circle. Although Will also got an assist on an earlier goal, he says the winning formula was outstanding team defense and Fabio Rossi’s two big goals within 1.5 minutes of each other. Way to go!
