From The President & CEO The Greater Hudson Valley Health System Medical Group has seen tremendous growth and continues to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to our community. Every day, more than 240 Medical Group employees go above and beyond to live up to our mission to improve the health of our community by providing exceptional healthcare. We now have 83 employed physicians in total; 12 who have joined us since January, and 47 clinical staff. We offer 16 specialty services, including our newest, Gastroenterology. All of our physicians are credentialed at Orange Regional Medical Center and Catskill Regional Medical Center, providing more access and convenience for our patients and the community. Under Dr. Gerard Galarneau’s leadership, the Medical Group continues to gain strength in supporting hospital programs, providing quality care and services and working alongside medical education to help train and educate physicians of the future.

Healthgrades® Presents 2018 Patient Safety Excellence Award™

Our prominence as a teaching facility also deserves congratulations. Through our Medical Education Department, we offer 6 residency programs which currently have a total of 103 Residents enrolled. I am pleased to announce that this year we have graduated four Residents from our Family Medicine program. One of them, Dr. Osmaan Minhas, has been hired by Orange Regional Medical Group. Eight additional Residents have graduated from their Transitional Year. To date, we are proud to have graduated 22 Residents.

This coming year, we will host 37 new residents, and we will have approximately 70 medical students from Touro College rotating through the hospital.

Five of our programs have been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The ACGME is responsible for accrediting the majority of graduate medical training programs for physicians in the United States.

Medical Group Rheumatologist, Bella Fradlis, MD and Jessica Worsdale, LPN proudly visited with patients and supported the annual Walk to Cure Arthritis on June 9.

Paramjeet Singh, MD was featured in the June 2018 edition of the Orange Sullivan Journal. The Journal interviewed Dr. Singh about why he went into medicine and how his artwork is an important part of his life. The story includes some of his amazing artwork and photography.

Leading the Way Orange Regional is pleased to introduce Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Manager, Elyse Carroll, BS, RRT. Elyse will lead and grow this new program. Classes will start in July and be located on the second floor of the Outpatient Building.

Elyse has been a Respiratory Therapist for more than 30 years. Prior to joining Orange Regional, she was instrumental in developing and implementing the first COPD Disease Management Program in Connecticut. The program was recognized for reducing exacerbations and hospitalizations by up to 40%. Elyse has cared for many patients with chronic lung diseases and was part of a very robust pulmonary rehabilitation program, home ventilation program and a large pulmonary support group. The Goshen Independent recently featured a press release on Orange Regional’s “Stop the Bleed" Training. Stop the Bleed Training sessions teach individuals how to recognize and control threatening hemorrhages using tourniquets and wound packing.

Each month, the Committee reviews nominations received and presents one BEE award to an exceptional staff member.

The nominations of all recipients throughout the year are then reviewed by the committee and one recipient is named as BEE of the Year. To make a nomination, email BEEAward@ghvhs.org.

Our latest recipient of the BEE (Be Exceptional Everyday) Award was Denise Rheel. Denise is a nurse who goes above and beyond for patients and their families on a daily basis.

The Orange Regional Rewards and Recognition Committee started the BEE program as a way to honor our employees, who are exceptional every day and go above and beyond their expected role in providing service.

Good Catch Award Maria Devaney, a medical technologist in the Laboratory Services Department, was a recipient of the Good Catch Award.

A Good Catch is an event or circumstance that has the potential to cause an incident or medical error, but that did not actually occur due to corrective action and/or timely intervention. Nominations are accepted throughout the year and are judged by Patient Safety Subcommittee. Bariatric Patient Appreciation The annual Bariatric Patient Appreciation event was held on June 5. The event featured testimonials from recent bariatric patients and why they decided to undergo bariatric surgery.

Patients also shared details about their personal weight loss journeys and said “thanks� to the physicians who helped them transform. For more information on our Bariatric Surgery Program, contact Bariatric Surgery Program Director, Janet Kovler, at jkovler@ghvhs.org.

Committed To Our Community Relay For Life

Arthritis Walk Orange Regional was a gold sponsor at this year’s Walk to Cure Arthritis on June 9. Thank you to the Bone & Joint Center Team and all who participated in this important event.

On June 2, team Orange Regional represented at the Pine Bush Relay for Life. It was a wonderful turnout for a great cause.

Celebration Of Life: National Cancer Survivors Day 2018 On June 3, Orange Regional held its National Cancer Survivors Day picnic. The event featured a motivational speech from Ken Tscham, a head and neck cancer survivor. Thank you to all who contributed to this celebration including the Glory’s Bound Band, Outback Steakhouse, the American Cancer Society and Community Home Health Care.

Security Reminder: How to Report Suspicious Activity

End of Flu Season The Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health has officially declared that influenza is no longer prevalent across New York State. This ends the flu season and those employees who were required to wear masks to protect themselves, their patients and their colleagues no longer have to do so. Thank you to everyone who worked diligently through this tough influenza season.

Public safety is everyone's responsibility.

If you see suspicious activity, report it to Security ASAP. Describe specifically what you observed, including: • Who or what you saw • When you saw it • Where it occurred • Why it's suspicious Hospital doors are open and the public is welcome, so it should be a best practice for all individuals working or visiting the facility to keep an eye out for suspicious behavior. This can include abandoned vehicles, unauthorized individuals in restricted areas, strange packages left on site or even unusual odors. Also be sure to highlight important contact phone numbers, including security and hospital management, someplace visible within your department.

Relocation of Staffing Office, Nursing Payroll & Nursing Clinical Supervisors Please note the staffing, nursing payroll and nursing clinical supervisors offices have relocated.

These offices are now located on the ground floor of the Main Campus adjacent to the volunteer office and shabbos rooms. All phone extensions are the same.

National Employee Health and Fitness Day Orange Regional celebrated National Employee Health and Fitness Day in May and welcomed community vendors on site to help promote benefits of establishing and maintaining healthy habits. Thank you to all who participated.
