CONNECTIONS September 2018
An award-winning newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers
From The President & CEO It is with great pleasure and pride that I share with you that the Greater Hudson Valley Health System is the recipient of the 2018 GOLD level Baldridge PIPEX Award. The Gold Award is classified as the Achievement of Excellence, an advanced level of recognition for organizations that have demonstrated, through commitment and practice, significant progress toward excellence. Our honor also recognizes our leadership, strategy development, workforce, customer and stakeholder engagement, knowledge management and information technology and operational effectiveness. Key strengths were also noted in results related to patient safety and finance. I’m also pleased to share that our Safety and Ethics processes were viewed as being noteworthy, role model practices. Also noteworthy is U.S. News & World Report’s recognition of Orange Regional as the Best Regional Hospital for the second year in a row. U.S. News & World Report is best known today for its influential Best Hospitals and Best Colleges rankings. We also received awards for Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Pulmonology, Urology, Congestive Heart Failure and Hip Replacement. In May 2016, Orange Regional became designated as a Magnet institution. The Magnet Nursing Recognition Program is a hallmark of excellence and not easily achieved. Nationally, only 8% of hospitals have Magnet recognition. Increasingly, consumers are becoming familiar with and rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing. I am proud to say that Orange Regional is the only hospital in the Greater Hudson Valley region to be Magnet recognized. In May 2018, Orange Regional reached its halfway mark since achieving designation and has now begun the two year journey for Magnet re-designation. This process is tedious but our passion to prove how well we care for our patients demonstrates our commitment and an unwavering dedication to enhancing our patients’ experiences. I want to thank you for your commitment and dedication to our patients, their families, our community and to each other. Achieving recognitions and designations such as these takes tremendous team work. You are all to be complimented for your contribution to excellence.
Sincerely,
Scott Batulis, President & CEO
Ranked Best Regional Hospital 2 Years In A Row By U.S. News & World Report Orange Regional Medical Center has, once again, been nationally rated a high performing hospital by U.S. News & World Report. For the second year in a row, we have earned the rating of Best Regional Hospital (2018-2019), scoring high in patient safety. Our high performing categories included Pulmonology, Heart Failure, Urology, GI and Gastroenterology, and Hip Replacement. To help patients decide where to receive care, U.S. News & World Report generates hospital rankings by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, 9 adult procedures and conditions and 10 pediatric specialties. To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients. Congratulations to everyone who works tirelessly to provide high quality care to our patients!
