Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery Services Program Celebrated With Ribbon-Cutting

A Message From Our Leader Thank you to everyone who participated in our last Employee Engagement Survey.

Each year, employees help us gauge how well we are doing collectively to improve Catskill Regional as an excellent place to work. Our Hospital continues to see favorable results from this survey. Our Dr. Gerard Galarneau Grand Mean held steady at CEO & CMO 4.0 on a scale of 5 keeping us in the 40th percentile of the Gallup healthcare database.

By now, every employee should have seen their department’s result and should have come up with an action plan to work on. The goal is to execute your action plans so we can continuously improve Catskill Regional as a place to work and also contribute to the overall excellent patient experience we can provide.

At Catskill Regional, we value staff input and want our workplace to be one where everyone feels like they are contributing to the best of their abilities.

Increasing overall employee engagement allows us to continuously improve our workplace which brings us closer to fulfilling our mission.

On April 12, Catskill Regional Medical Center held a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the new Bariatric & Metabolic Surgical Services Program. The celebration was attended by Hospital staff, clinicians, nurses and Catskill Regional’s first bariatric surgery patient, Janice Kadan. Janice spoke about her life transformation thanks to the Hospital’s exceptional bariatric program and dedicated staff.

Update

Quarterly Medical Staff Dinner

The GHVHS Medical Group had its Quarterly Medical Staff Dinner on March 17 at Bernie's Holiday Restaurant.

It was a lively night with presentations from Dr. Lauren Roman on Primary Care, Dr. Marina Keller on Infectious Diseases, Drs. Michelle Fontaine and Eric Martin on Orthopedics, Dr. Adrian Paraschiv on IT and Revenue Cycle and Dr. Aamir Gilani on Quality Reporting. In addition, Executive Director, Jerry Dunlavey, gave a 'State of the Practice' presentation followed by a Q&A period. The next Quarterly Dinner is at West Hills Country Club, in Middletown on June 16 at 6:00 p.m.

Welcome Debra Martin!

Debra Martin is the new practice administrator of primary care for Catskill Regional Medical Group. She will help to bring the primary care team up to speed on equipment and workflows to ensure they have all the needed support they deserve.

Debra has lived in Sullivan County for 20 years and has worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 34 years.

For 24 of those years she worked in Community Health. Debra has a Bachelor’s degree is in Community Health and Human Services and is a graduate of Leadership Orange, Class of 2014. She also teaches the Certified Medical Assistant courses at Sullivan County B.O.C.E.S. Adult Education.

Debra believes that preventative care is key to a healthier community and that quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone. Healthcare providers interact with patients at their most vulnerable and she believes that in addition to healthcare, providers should help identify any barriers that may be preventing patients from accessing services.

LEADING THE WAY Donna DeStefano LRT,ARRT, (R) (M), has been promoted to Director of Diagnostic Imaging.

Donna has been with Catskill Regional for 19 years and has rose through the clinical leadership ranks in Diagnostic Imaging. For the past three years as Clinical Director, Donna has supported numerous operational changes that have had excellent outcomes, including the new Mammography service at Grover Hermann Hospital and most recently Women’s Imaging at the Harris Campus.

As Director of Diagnostic Imaging, along with her leadership responsibilities, Donna will work actively with leadership from Catskill Regional and Orange Regional to develop and standardize best practice models across the Greater Hudson Valley Health System. CONGRATULATIONS Administrator of Emergency, Critical Care and Support Services, Wendy E. Brown, RN, MSA, has been appointed to the Sullivan County Public Health Services Advisory Board for a three-year term.

The Sullivan County Public Health Services Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Public Health Director on issues related to the health of the entire County, such as communicable disease threats, immunization rates, health status indicators and population health matters.

Wendy joined Catskill Regional in 2012 and most recently held the position of Clinical Director of the Emergency Services Department. In her current role, she oversees Emergency Services, the Intensive Care Unit, along with the Environmental and Food Services departments.

CRMC Supports “80 By 18” Initiative In conjunction with National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Catskill Regional Medical Center announced its pledge to help increase colorectal cancer screening rates in Sullivan County by supporting the 80% by 2018 initiative, led by the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (an organization co-founded by the ACS and CDC).

A TRIBUTE TO ROSE

Former Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) resident, Rose Weiss, celebrated her 100th birthday on March 7 with a special party planned by her friends and the staff of the SNU. Rose was interviewed by The Sullivan County Democrat and also received a proclamation for starting the Fallsburg Seniors Club. Unfortunately, one week after her birthday, Rose passed away. She will be missed!

RISE Donation

Catskill Regional Staff Participates in Boys & Girls Club Fundraiser Catskill Regional staff had a wonderful time performing as “celebrity servers” for this year’s Town of Wallkill Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Dinner. The Catskill Regional event team included Jodi Goodman, Kathy Anderson, Roe Steuber, Karen McKoy, Vladimir Paulovici and Merrily Lynch, all who dressed as Dr. Seuss characters. Behind the scenes helpers were Terry Delaney and Christina Thompson. Catskill Regional staff raised more than $2,800.

Secretary of the Fallsburg Lions Club, Miranda Behan, presented Rape Intervention Services and Education (RISE) Program Manager, Deborah O’Malley, with a $500 check. The donation from the Club will be used to purchase a dollhouse, games, kinetic sand, dolls and other items used to enhance interactive play.

These items are essential to helping children express themselves as part of treatment within our RISE program, which offers crisis counseling, intervention and educational services to children. Outpatient Oncology and Infusion Center Receive Gift Bag Donations Ms. Casey Ross, a teacher’s aide at Sullivan West Central School District and a representative of “Thirty One Gifts”, a company that produces female-oriented gifts and supports females in business, donated more than 35 comfort bags to Catskill Regional’s Outpatient Oncology and Infusion Center for its patients.

School district students, 5th grader, Paige Muzuruk, and 10th grader, Kelsey Farrell, as well as numerous students/parents donated items to fill the bags. Thanks to Sullivan West School District for its generosity and kindness.
