CONNECTIONS August 2018

An award-winning newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers

From The President & CEO I’m proud to share that we continue to receive some of the most prestigious awards for patient safety and superior patient outcomes from Healthgrades, including being one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention™ for two years in a row (2017, 2018), as well as the recipient of Healthgrades 2018 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ for the second consecutive year. We are the only hospital in New York State to earn back to back annual Patient Safety Excellence recognition. Orange Regional’s Peter Frommer, MD Heart Center racked up significant honors as it was also named among the Top 5% in the Nation for Coronary Interventional Procedures two years in a row (2017, 2018) as well as receiving five-stars for Coronary Interventional Procedures for two years in a row (2017, 2018). Added to this are five-star recognitions for Pace Maker Procedures and Treatment for Heart Attack for 2018. Surgical Services ranked among the top 10% in the nation for General Surgery by Healthgrades, earned the General Surgery Excellence Award and received five stars for Gallbladder Removal Surgery. Additionally, we received five stars for treatment of Pneumonia.

The Rowley Family Birthing Center was recognized with five stars for natural childbirth and C-section procedures. Our Bariatric Surgery program was recognized with the Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award and named Orange Regional among the top 10% of hospitals for Bariatric Surgery. Healthgrades continued to honor us for Superior Performance in Bariatric Surgery and we received five stars for Overall Bariatric Surgery, four years in a row (2015-2018). We are making great strides in the quality of care we provide to our community. This success requires teamwork and strong communication with each other and with our patients. Research shows a direct link between communication and improved patient satisfaction, quality outcomes and patient safety. RELATE training helps to reinforce how we communicate and can be a key component in the delivery of exceptional patient care. I’d like to thank everyone who recently met with Baldrige Surveyors. We hope to hear from Baldrige soon with the formal results of their visit. I hope everyone is enjoying the final weeks of their summer. I wish you and your families a safe and healthy return to school. Sincerely,

Scott Batulis, President & CEO

Orange Regional Recognized For Commitment To Quality Stroke Care Orange Regional received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. Our Hospital earned this award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients. This included evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines, all toward the goal of improving recovery time and reducing the risk of death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients receive education on managing their health, and a follow-up visit is scheduled.
