An award-winning newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers
From The President & CEO Our transition to Garnet Health is taking shape. Since my announcement several months ago, much work behind the scenes has taken place. Our System name is Garnet Health. Entity names within our System have been decided and include: Garnet Health Doctors, Garnet Health Urgent Care, Garnet Health Medical Center (for the Middletown campus), Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills (for the Harris and Callicoon campuses) and Garnet Health Foundation. Simultaneously, a strategic and detailed brand activation plan is in motion consisting of nearly a dozen internal workgroups covering everything from exterior signage to ID badges and stationery. We anticipate launching Garnet in early 2020. I want to thank those who are involved in the rebranding process. It is a big undertaking and your support is appreciated. The Medical Group continues to grow with over 300 employees – 144 providers and nearly 20 specialties, including our newest, Women’s Health. In 2020, we expect to provide full OB/GYN and pediatric services. On August 5, we will welcome Anne Nelson, Vice President of Operations, who will work closely with practice leaders and strongly support the delivery of quality care to our patients. Patient satisfaction scores are high at all locations, including the newest primary care office in Bethel, our seventh location. We successfully integrated our hospitalist service at Catskill Regional to include adult, pediatrics and critical care, and expanded vascular services with an outpatient Vein Treatment Center. Our prominence as a teaching facility is growing. Orange Regional’s Residency Programs are in their fifth year. In June, 32 physicians graduated from our programs: Transitional Year Internship, Internal Medicine Residency, Family Medicine Residency, Emergency Medicine Residency, General Surgery Residency and Psychiatry Residency. The ACGME recognition has elevated our teaching status and has resulted in the highest number of enrollment applications we have ever seen; more than 6,100 applications were received for 40 available residency positions. Thank you to all physicians and medical group providers who teach, coach and mentor our medical residents with a high standard of excellence. Sincerely, Scott Batulis, President & CEO
Congratulations to our May 2019 employee of the month, Shane Prestimonico. Our BEE Award stands for Being Exceptional Everyday. The Orange Regional Rewards and Recognition Committee started the BEE program as a way to honor our employees who are exceptional every day and go above and beyond their expected role in providing service. Each month, the Committee reviews nominations received and presents one BEE award to an exceptional staff member. The nominations of all recipients throughout the year are then reviewed by the Committee and one recipient is named as BEE of the Year. To make a nomination, email BEEAward@ghvhs.org.

We are excited to receive your feedback and ask that you be honest in answering the questions. The survey is being conducted by the Center for Patient Safety and we will receive the participation reports within 30 days after the survey window has closed. Shared Governance Nursing Congress — A Best Practice Approach
Shared Governance Nursing Congress 2019
As we continue our journey toward nursing excellence, everyone should be aware of the importance of having a Shared Governance Nursing Congress. What Is Shared Governance Nursing Congress? Orange Regional Medical Center Shared Governance Nursing Congress provides the framework for accountability and autonomy of the nursing practice and strategic goals. Shared Governance is comprised of frontline staff and leader advisors who actively engage in the work of enhancing their practice. There are eight Nursing Service Councils and five Focused-Based Committees ensuring consistency of nursing practice at all levels throughout the organization. The Councils and Committees utilize a shared decision-making model to guide the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practice and quality in the practice setting. Self-nomination and nomination forms to become an active member of Shared Governance are distributed in the fall and confirmations are posted in November. New and continuing members will be invited to an Inauguration-Learning Session in January to better understand Shared Governance. How Does Shared Governance Nursing Congress Function? Shared Governance Nursing Congress meets monthly. Additional activities and meetings are added as necessary. Meetings and activities of the day are as follows:
• STATE OF THE UNION HUDDLE/UPDATE: A 15-minute huddle/update session with the CNO/VP, Nurse Leader Advisors, Shared Governance facilitators and members representing all Councils and Committees.
• COUNCILS: The Council shared decision process promotes plans, actions and implementation for optimal patient care based on best practice and best evidence.
• COMMITTEE: A shared decision-making group representing members from each of the eight Nursing Service Councils discusses focus-based concerns. Action and implementation are formulated.
• SENATE: Coordinates the work completed by all Committees and Councils. The Nurse Leader Advisor, Chair or Co-Chair for each Committees and Councils is the product of the Senate.
• CASCADING SENATE HIGHLIGHT: This is a report which includes key discussions summarized from all levels of
Shared Governance Nursing Congress meetings. The report is cascaded, disseminated and shared with frontline staff via email/post.

Greater Hudson Valley Health System Celebrates Pride Month
On June 30, over 50 staff members of Greater Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS) supported World Pride Month by marching in the World Pride Parade, held in New York City. GHVHS LGBTQ+ Resource Team was created to help share and spread the word on the System’s goal to become Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) certified. The Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) is the national LGBTQ+ benchmarking tool that evaluates healthcare facilities' policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees. GHVHS' goal is to better serve patients, employees and community members within the LGBTQ+ community and we have started our journey to become HEI certified.
