CONNECTIONS December 2018

An award-winning newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers

From The President & CEO

I am proud to announce that the Greater Hudson Valley Health System has approved a new name for the health system which is the corporate parent of Catskill Regional Medical Center, Orange Regional Medical Center, Catskill Regional Medical Group, Orange Regional Medical Group and the Orange Regional Medical Center Foundation. The new system name is Garnet Health. You may ask ‘why the new name’ and ‘how was Garnet Health chosen’? As a growing health care system and expanding medical group, we need a name that is simple and easy to explain to our patients and our community. The name was chosen after an extensive process conducted by branding experts Interbrand Health in conjunction with our marketing team, hospital and medical group leadership, and the Board of Directors. Interbrand is a world-wide company that has developed brands for many well-known national and international companies. To understand our brand objectives, Interbrand visited our locations, held interviews with leaders and reviewed competitor brands. They discovered that above all, we are a health system that is inspired to go above and beyond to achieve excellence. Interbrand developed a list of over 424 potential names. Then Interbrand researched if there were any identical and phonetic equivalents, negative language or cultural associations or other misleading connotations. Ultimately, eight legally reviewed names emerged which were then discussed at the leadership and Board of Directors level. We looked at whether the name supports our future goals; whether it was thought-provoking, memorable and relatable and whether it would be easy to implement in a way that meets the needs of all stakeholders. Finally one name emerged – Garnet Health. Garnet, the New York State gemstone, suggests quality, leadership, and healing. The implementation of the name change will require significant planning and will be implemented over time. We have to decide what the change will mean for our hospitals and medical group and how we will express the new name. This includes developing a logo and graphic elements, as well as creating guidelines on how we’ll use the brand. We are an organization that has embraced change over time and I hope you will join me in supporting this important change. The care we provide to our patients always comes first and Garnet Health will quickly become a name associated with excellence. My sincere thanks to all employees, physicians and volunteers for making 2018 a great year. Please have a healthy and safe 2019. Sincerely, Scott Batulis, President & CEO

Nurses Present at Brooklyn 1199 SEIU Symposium

Orange Regional employees (both nursing and non) recently attended the 1199 RN Symposium in Brooklyn, NY. While there, two of our very own RN's Kelsie Krieger & Zoe Beickert displayed a poster outlining a new initiative they have implemented on 4 East – The Transdisciplinary Team’s HarmReduction Initiative. This initiative aims to increase patient safety, staff safety and patient and staff engagement, while working towards moving rehabilitation patient to the functional goals.

“Benefits That Rock” The Human Resources Department held its Annual Benefits Fair on November 16. This year’s theme was “Benefits That Rock” and Human Resources staff dressed up as rockers as they helped employees navigate many different vendor booths and information. Vendors varying from Sam’s Club to Aflac to Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield set up booths throughout the fair to share useful information and free goodies with Orange Regional Staff. The fair featured an impressive array of prizes that participants of the Benefits Fair Scavenger Hunt, where staff members while visiting each booth filled out a benefits quiz and once complete, were entered into the contest for a chance to win. For more information about your health benefits, contact your Human Resources Business Partner at x1900.

Thanks for 45 Years of Service!
