The architectural project is composed by two parts, the first one is a strategy which identifies various tools that permit the factual starting of the project (financial, cultural, economical, legal tools). The strategy also defines the temporary development of the project, dividing it in three different phases, as well as setting different general ‘scenarios’ for the future. The second part is the architectural project which defines all actions, tools and materials necessary to regenerate all buildings with the lower budget possible. This complex of buildings is though to be transformed in an indipendent cultural centre (see ≥ TEH Trans Europe Halles network), that advocates and promotes indipendent culture, social integration, cooperation and concrete environmental urban actions.

Our study starts from a theoric research, which consists in an accurate study of a remarkable number of case studies located all around Europe, selected for their physical and social similarity with our project area. The research purpose was identifying informal action schemes, good practices, laws and procedures relevant to our project area, in order to develop a concrete strategy which could be factually successful. The city of Berlin has been analysed with a special attention, as it is an unique example for the massive number of case studies founded, and for the strong role played by temporary uses in Berlin development in the last 20 years.

Architectonical works are divided in two classes: required works are the major interventions on buildings ( structure recovery, new insulation layer for roofs, remediation etc ) which require qualified labor, secondary works are all finish works and equipments and could be gradually executed by users. The name Casa L.O.C.A. is the italian acronym for Laboratori Officine (workshops) Creative (creative) and Associazionismo (cooperation), and it is thought to be a central part of the cultural centre. The CasaL.O.C.A wiil be placed in blocks of sheds B and C, which present a big open space in the inside, that could be adapted to various activities. The activities chosen are highly representative of KAR purposes: cooperation, art and recreative activities wiil be organized by no-profit associations, and free spaces for exhibition or meeting will be provided. There will be also various spaces destined to creative work: free coworking spaces, mechanical workshops, and a Fab Lab. The purpose of CasaL.O.C.A is starting a positive process capable to enhance cultural life, social integration and enviromental improvements for both the neighbourood and the city of Bologna. All activities are spatially organized in order to obtain a continue use, during both all week and the weekend. All finish works will be realized by users, external walls will be painted by graffiti artists, the necessary furniture and new internal partitions will be assembled by the community of users. Spaces will be highly flexibile, and will be personalized and changed by associations and users during the time. In order to maximize mutual interactions, the spaces would be assigned to associations and informal groups operating in fields of arts, design, music as well as cooperation,politics and activism.

The sheds will be renovated in order to permit the public use: all frames will be enalarged to obtain more natural light in the inside, some internal partitions will be demolished and damaged wall and structures will be fixed. There will be used some solar passive techniques and insulation layers will be added, in order to increase the quality of interior spaces with the minimum investment of money. The main action consists in demolishing an entire shed within each block, in place of which two greenhouses will be placed to create a big source of natural light for the inside, as well as a big and considerable common space for the community of users. Furthermore, on the external front side of the sheds, a permanent scaffolding structure will be realized. This structure is necessary to access to the sheds, as there is a 1,50 gap from the external ground to inside floor, moreover the scaffolding structure it is though to be the material support for the creativity of the community of users. The structure is easily transformable and expandable, and it can support various typologies of decorations (panels, flags, plants, lights etc) as well as solar panels and water and rainwater collection systems.

CULTURAL PROMOTION
The empty area in front of the restaurant, before used as a parking lot, will be transformed in a garden, thanks to the partial removal of the asphalt ground and big recycled pots. The area is thought to offer a free space for educational activities related to nature and urban agriculture, community gardening, and recreative activities for the neighbourhood (picnics, parties, etc.). The block of sheds which was a mechanic workshop will be first remediatied and then trasformed to adapt it to its new function: a cultural centre for the promotion of a conscious food culture. There will be a restaurant, which would use biological and local product, the kitchen would be available for a cooking school. There will be also a shop, where local food and gastronomy products made in the restaurants are sold. These functions help the cultural centre to raise funds to be reinvested on it. The shop also manage one seat of the local network of G.A.S., the italian solidarity based purchasing groups.

In the second phase of project development, the big block which was before a fodder factory would be restored, as we assume that in this moment there would be enough resources, both economic and social, to make this big investment possible. The factory consists in two blocks of sheds, one of them is actually renovated, some walls will be demolished, damaged parts and unsafe structures will be fixed, although finish works will not be realized. Both exterior and interior surfaces will be left as they are, as the use of this building will be the ‘Urban Sport Center’, that is a space dedicated to sports like skateboard, parkour, acrobatic, martial arts ecc. The interior space will not be heated, although it will be equipped with some prefab wooden blocks where will be placed locker rooms, toilets and heated room for courses like yoga, dance ecc. The second block will not be restored as its condition are too bad that it would require a too big economic investment. So this block is not open to the public, but only to qualified workers, as a central of treatment will be located here, that is a big remediation system of all contaminate materials which come out from demolitions and remediations of other sheds in the area. 0

Outside the Urban Sport Center will be realized a megastructure which we decided to call Fun Palace, an explicit quote of Cedric Price’s never built concept, as our project is directly inspired from Price’s ideas for an innovative type of multi-purpose cultural building whose key feature was its lack of formal design. It is to be a place without any defined purpose, where users would decide to do any activity they want. As in Price’s concept, the extreme simplicity of the structure would permit the continue changing of the megastructure, which would be adapted to the different necessity of the community of users. The megastructure consist in a 25 meters high scaffolding structure, which is composed of two parts. The firs part is permanent and complies to the necessity of accessing all levels, as it is supporting the connection system of stairs, elevators, ramps which permits the free movements of people through all levels. This is the ordinary configuration which is the starting point for every later expansion. The scaffolding structure is the though to be the support for the creativity of the community of users, as it cans support all type of decoration, panels, lights installation and big banners. The second part is one of the possible expansion, an extraordinary configuration as we imagine it, presented as an example. For one of the supposed big events, as an art exhibition (we imagined the itinerant contemporary art exhibition MANIFESTA),more scaffolding structures will be assembled. On the structure would be put some floors, where the exhibition will be placed. as well as pre-fab wooden boxes already used in the Urban Sport Center, where will be placed art and sound installations,a little auditorium or a cafè.

Saint Louis, former capital of Senegal and of the ancient Afrique Occidental Frances is now fighting a relentless downfall since the economic and political activities have moved towards the new capital, Dakar. The unregulated appropriation of pubblic spaces and the city sprawl have led all economic investments towards urban growth rather than to the preservation of the rural and natural landscapes. The typical French colonial settlements is inscribed in the Unesco Heritage list but is more and more abandoned to itself, loosing its original functions as seat of political power now lacks of a defined identity and the colonial urban grid is in contrast with the productive activities of agriculture and fishing that are essential to get by for most of local poorest inhabitants. The slum sprawl has perturbed natureâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s stable balance altering the ecosystem of the river waterscape, Saint Louis and its surrounding waterscape are constantly redrawn by the flooding and shifting of the river and ocean waters and to protect the city from the floods the river banks have been turned into city limits, separating one side from the other. The result has been the segregation between the inhabitants of the colonial island and those of the Langue de Barbarie, the fishermenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s island. The unregulated use of the space and the lack of infrastrucure makes more difficult the lifes of those living in the slums and the preservation of the natural and historical heritage.

This area is one of the most interesting in the city of Milan, characterized for change of use in this last years, is now a place full of potentialities because of its proximity to the city center and to one of the commercial area which is now involved in important project or renewal and for the connection with the biggest agricultural park of the city and the hinterland. The given area was a suburban area of the city of Rovigo, for which we had to project a new directive center, where the new offices of public administration would be based. As the area was quite large, and the presence of nature was considerable although neglected, the project envisaged a new park filling all the area, improving the system of water canals and vegetations distinctive of this area of Italy. Also a lake is provided. The park is characterized by an artificial relief of the ground, by which a network of paths is created, which leads to the center of the park where the directive center is located, like a large ‘fissure’ of the ground.

A precise requirement of the project was the presence of a distinctive element with a considerable height, by which the city of Rovigo wanted to give visibility to its new public offices. Our project complies with this request with two high buildings, two simple prismatic volumes characterized by a crystal surface covering, facing the lake.

The project proposes the requalification of a vast area occupied by Magneti Marelli factory, no longer in use, thanks to the realization of a big cultural centre, where important cultural institutions will be located: a museum, a library, an auditorium, and a university campus . The cultural centre aims to interact with the big flux of tourist generated by Venaria Reale Royal Palace, enhancing cultural events reach and helping the development of Venaria Reale town. The remarkable dimension of the area, as well as remarkable natural elements such as La Mandria Regional Park, the river and the Royal Gardens, had led us to imagine a new vast park for the area. The park is composed by different typologies of vegetations in order to connect the area to its pherypheral borders, also bringing the natural presence close to the city center. New buildings would be immersed in the green and are morphologically designed to create filter space between interior and exterior spaces, as well as private and public spaces, enhacing the feeling of walking through a forest.
