Architectural Assistant (Part II) I am an M.A. in Architecture, especially passionate in landscape architecture and public space design. I am photography and music addicted, too. My goal is to communicate my point of view of the present and how I imagine the future. Architecture gives me this opportunity. I like to explore and travel as much as I can, but that is not all. I also like understanding how the universe works and image how we will live and explore it in the future. I am very comfortable to work in groups with colleagues from different countries and background. This is also thanks to the participation at different international workshops and events. However, I enjoy working on my own too.

I developed my master’s thesis in Architecture on the topic of living Space. An important contribution of my thesis is the creation of codes and paradigms with which to categorise and organise, present and future project proposals, also providing a unitary language of reading the various projects-case studies.

Project Omega Space Habitat: Architet tura per lo Spazio Type Location Year

Space Architecture Milankovic Crater, Mars 2021

The colonization of Space is an inevitable step in the advancement of humanity. In the last twenty years, Space Architecture, the branch of architecture that deals with the design of structures for Space, was born and is developing. The research carried out in this thesis is based on the collection and the typological and functional analysis of spatial habitats designed and proposed to date, in order to make meta-design proposals for future colonies. Among the objectives set there are to optimize and organize the soil as effectively as possible, so as to encourage an appropriate and efficient expansion of the colonies, the design of comfortable spaces, self-sufficient and functional both for the purposes of research and the life of future settlers, whether they are professionals or simple civilians, and the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and multidisciplinary support that can offer at all stages: from site location to life support.

Zancle

Archeological site requalification Type Location Year

Public space, Culture, Office Messina, Italy 2019

The program provides for the return of an identity and formal unity to the site of the Real Citadella of Messina, designing the new in relation to the old. The original construction, dating back to the XVIII century A.D., was born as a fortress against siege. The site is currently fragmented and not very recognizable. The expansion of the port has found space in the “zone falcata” to accommodate shipyards, the terminal of the railway and industrial settlements of various kinds (now disused). The project involves the reclamation, redevelopment and reorganization of the area, with the aim of restoring the city to a public space now lost. The first intervention aims to recreate the old front of the fortress towards the port. The proposed solution is to build a new boundary wall in the footsteps of the ancient. The massiveness of the external front is contrasted inside, where it develops on a double porch that houses the band of services. It finds its end in a tower, which will house the new offices of the port authority. The second intervention concerns the reclamation and reorganization of the internal area. The design of the new open-air archaeological park, which houses the entire area of the ancient Citadel, gives the city a new public space. It is completed by a pentagonal square flanked by two hypostyle rooms. The last project concerns the construction of a new pier for cruise ships and a port for small boats.

New Gates for Vibo Valentia - Archaeological Park Type Location Year

Masterplan, Culture, Landscape Vibo Valentia, Italy 2019

The program included the construction of a new gate for the city of Vibo Valentia from the north entrance, coming from the highway. A project that redesigns the overall entrance to the contemporary city is the request made by the client, also putting in visual and architectural relation the Park of HipponionBelvedere with the Park of Hipponion-Trappeto, in order to create a larger and more unified Archaeological Park of the Greek city. In detail, two new entrances to the city were required; the new protective roof for the cyclopean walls of the Greek city; the location of services to the Archaeological Park. The project then develops on the outer edge of the new Archaeological Park with the creation of a porticoed “Wall” that includes inside the various services required and the extension of the square in front of the cemetery to protect the cyclopean walls. They delimit the boundaries within which the new Archaeological Park develops, marked by fixed luminous points that measure the space. The wall expands into an infrastructural node that includes a semi-hypogean square that houses a turreted landmark designed to mark the new gateway to the contemporary city. The intervention finds its formal closure in the underground antiquarium located in the area of Hipponion-Belvedere, below the remains of the Temple of Kore.

Four Hubs

Urban regeneration and Social capacitors Type Location Year

Urban planning Palmi, Italy 2019

Palmi is a town of about 18,000 inhabitants located on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria, located between the Costa Viola and Mount Sant’Elia. It is connected with the highway (A2 of the Mediterranean), state roads and with the railway line. It is also located in close proximity of the port of Gioia Tauro, one of the largest in the Mediterranean. The city of Palmi needs a complete program of urban regeneration. Both the central and the peripheral areas require a package of measures to counteract the progressive deterioration both architectural and urban, with a view to mending the urban fabric and, above all, the social dynamics. Therefore, with the clear objective of giving Palmi a new life, a meticulous phase of research and urban analysis has been started, which has seen the identification of the services present, connections, green areas and public spaces that have been the starting point for knowledge of the territory. Having as a pivotal point also the inclusion of the population in the planning process followed a phase of interviews and surveys useful to frame the needs and demands of citizens, thus bringing out the various issues. This was followed by a S.W.O.T. analysis from which the general intervention area was defined and gave guidelines for the definition of effective objectives and strategies. The proposal presented identifies four macro-areas of intervention: the Hospital Center, public spaces, the Pille district, and the Cultural-Sports Center. Each macro-area has unique characteristics from which adequate solutions have been derived to enhance them, and which aim at improving the quality of life of residents and the whole community.

New life for Saint Agatha river

Type Location Year

Landscape Reggio Calabria, Italy 2018

The program includes the intervention in the public space, the park, the garden, not only to redeem entire parts of the city, but as a driving force to restore civic value, urban quality and economic development. The theme of the riverfront as a space for relationships, mobility and environmental sustainability. In particular, the design of a linear urban river park is required, as a “complex landscape”, with the aim of “sewing up” the two banks of the southern outskirts of Reggio Calabria. The site of intervention is the Fiumara Sant’Agata, located near the airport of the city. The project proposes a re-combining of the two banks with a linear park, organic in character, contaminated by existing traces and signs. The first choice was to resize the banks of the river in relation to the most recent data available. In the second phase it was decided to bury portions of the river, so as to definitively rejoin the two sides of the city. A hierarchical system of routes favours the use of the park for its entire extension. The main route is designed as a circuit, which also conquers the summit of the artificial hill that also serves as a vantage point to the city, the sea, Sicily, Etna. The remains of the current banks of the river have been repainted in red, so as to mark their presence. Finally, the vegetation chosen includes different local varieties such as olive, bergamot, lemon, orange and many others and low vegetation.

Wellness centre for Galatro Terme Type Location Year

Healthcare, Wellness and Hotel Galatro, Italy 2018

The new Galatro Terme Wellness Centre is located in the footsteps of the current Gran Hotel Galatro Terme, located on the Metramo River, near the homonymous canyon. The site is characterized by the presence of natural thermal springs, discovered in 1075 by the Basilian monks, placed at 186 meters above sea level. The project is divided into three macro-structures, which fulfil the different functions required: healthcare area, wellness area and hotel. The first area is semi-underground and accommodates all the spaces dedicated to medical treatments for the respiratory tract, for mud-therapy, besides the loading/unloading areas, a relaxation area and a cafe-bar. The latter overlooks the outdoor swimming pool of the building complex. The second area rises directly above the first, to which it is connected both internally and externally. Inside there is a rehabilitation pool, sauna and, upstairs, massage area and offices. The third area is characterized by the hotel and is spread over four floors, including coverage. The ground floor houses the lobby and reception with its offices, the breakfast area, the kitchens and the restaurant for 200/250 people. The upper floors are instead reserved for the rooms, with the suites characterized by the all-round view of the gorge and the forest. Finally, on the roof there is the solarium.

A Conca a Multigeneration Centre Type Location Year

Public space Catenanuova, Italy 2019

The program involves the construction of a Center aimed at carrying out recreational and educational activities that favor the intergenerational relationship. The ideal location for this structure was identified, through a strategic analysis of the context, near the Infant School located in Via Generale Orazio Passalacqua. The marginal position with respect to the urban grid also gives the project the function of completing it. The presence of other structures in the same area, such as the Clinic, the Disabled Center and the equipped play area (c.d. Bambinopoli), already guarantee the presence of the user who will use the finished work. The Center focuses in particular on re-establishing a relationship between several generations, putting a solution to the vast gap created between the largest and the smallest. However, it does not deny the use of space even to intermediate generations, which would be the most suitable for the management of the structure, both in the organizational and maintenance sphere. The use of materials with reduced ecological impact is also envisaged, local and reusable for the construction of the building, to be assembled on site, using the techniques provided for dry structures.

Add to

the Quinta da Malagueira by Álvaro Siza Type Location Year

Residential Évora, Portugal 2017

The programme provides for the renovation and upgrading of existing neighbourhoods and the construction of 1200 single-family dwellings. Siza is guided by the traces present on the site and places as a fundamental theme for the intervention the connecting the illegal building to the ancient nucleus of Évora. The principles followed by Siza are the construction of low residential block with high population density and the distribution with respect to a scheme of orthogonal axes, aligned to the road, on which the apartments are also organized. The project includes the addition of a new part of the district that aims to integrate and camouflage the new with the existing. The reinterpretation of the compositional scheme used by Siza has resulted in a “comb” development of the housing cells, present in six types that vary in the internal organization. In front of each cell there is a private garden terrace.

Silence New garden for MoMa Type Location Year

Landscape New York, USA 2019

The program includes the design of a new garden for the MoMa Museum, in New York. The project formally interprets and stylizes the island of Manhattan. All parts of the projects are developed starting from the rigid road grid. Based on this grid, the space is measured using point elements placed at the intersections of the axes. In the specific case it is white birch trees. The longitudinal axes are the only ones visible in the pavement. They bend, as in the Superkilen Park in Copenhagen, at the pedestals that house the sculptures. The pedestals are placed in the same position as the monuments/places of interest present in NYC and their height varies according to the importance they have. Another fundamental aspect of the project is represented by the perception of the space. It is both visual and auditory. In the first case, once the spatiality of Manhattan is recognized, you will notice that the garden presents the negative volumes of the existing one. In the second case it will be the sound of the waterfall, paced on the wall that separates the garden from the street, to guide the visitors towards the most important sculpture (which is placed as is the Statue of Liberty in reality).

Exogenesis

Visions of Cities, ARCHA (Selected Artwork) Type Location Year

Competition Undefined 2019

Exogenesis is born from the hypothesis in which the continuos process of climatic mutation and the agressive use of the earth’s resources, will make the latter increasingly deficient and difficult to obtain, to the point of rendering the planet uninhabitable. As suggested by director C. Nolan in Interstellar film (2014), humanity will be forced to go ti a new planet. Exogenesis therefore wants to find a solution to the problem of the survival of the speciel during the journey. An ecosystem of the space stations in which the necessary resources can be produced, albeit with technological expedients. The choise of the hexagonal shape for the cells is a tribute to the honeycombs of bees, which are of this specific shape since it allows to save material and optimize spaces especially within a cylindrical structure such as that of Exogenesis.
