Ex HOTEL TURRITANIA TYPOLOGY: LOCATION: TEAM: SOFTWARE: YEAR:
Restructuring/Conversion Sassari, Sardegna (IT) Giacomo Vittorio Bua, Marco Ciardiello SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autocad 2016
The proposed intervention is a part of a wider project aimed at the requalification of the entire historical centre of Sassari. The project area is located where the north gate of the city used to be, near the former Hotel Turritania. The main objective is to create a usable linking space that adds the necessary connection between the historical centre and the commercial craft area, Restoring the importance of a vitaly area of the city which is now in a state of abandonement. Considering the public character of the surrounding buildings, The former hotel is now re-designed to function as a cultural aggregation centre, addressing various public and social needs, and trying to maintain a certain versatility so that other possible uses of the building are not precluded. The project includes a long portico of constant height. It surrounds the former hotel and leads,
6
through a system of ramps, to a raised square that allows to cross the railway. the arcade winds around the building and the sware, giving new impetus to the southern facade, which retains its historical look. This, in turn, emphasises the changes made to the nothern facade, which was built more recently. The internal entrance to the building allows access both to the new center of aggregation and to the square. The new courtyard becomes the fulcrum of the building usable by the visitors both as a meeting or study area and as a stand for possible shows. In the development of the project, it became necessary to perform a careful analysis of the whole social, historical, urban and architectural context. The former hotel Turritania becomes not only a place of study and meeting but also a real entrance to the city.

FERTILIA: ‘find your way in’ TYPOLOGY: LOCATION: TEAM: SOFTWARE: YEAR:
Adaptation/Mixed-use/Interior Fertilia, Alghero (IT) Giacomo Vittorio Bua, Anna Di Girolamo Rhinoceros, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autocad 2020
The project is part of a broader process of redevelopment designed for the village of Fertilia and for its morphological and symbolic fulcrum: Via Pola and the porticoed buildings that overlook it, connecting the church square (Piazza Venezia Giulia) and the belvedere overlooking the sea (Piazza San Marco). The object of the intervention are therefore the 4 heads of these porticoed complexes. Within them, the project plans to develop various programs that combine public functions on the lower floors, in close relationship with the space of the porticoes, and residential functions on the upper floors. In particular, FIND YOUR WAY IN finds its physical location in the head located at the western vertex of the intersection between Via Pola and Via Fiume, placing itself in a coherent way with the idea of reconnection and introjection of the territory at the base of the project itself and its functional
10
program. The store of the territory, located on the ground floor, becomes the bulwark of this strategy, as a meeting and arrival point. The portico architectural element establishes a dialogue with the surrounding void. The interior spaces around the portico and the self-supporting corten staircase further develop this dialogue, configuring themselves almost as a dilation of the public space and the porticoes of Via Pola. The co-working spaces on the second floor represent a further 'spatial opportunity' to host new activities inside Fertilia, able to infuse lifeblood into the organism of the village. Finally, the residences, designed primarily for a stay of a few days or a few weeks by families and professionals, establish a link not only with the tourist industry, powerful but mainly limited to the summer season, but also with other types of professional activities exercised throughout the year.

HABEXPO TYPOLOGY: LOCATION: TEAM: SOFTWARE: YEAR:
Residential/Mixed-use Conceptual Personal project Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autocad 2021
Inspired by Bruno Munari's "negative-positive" exercise, whose aim is to leave the eye free to choose its own visual priorities, building strong and contrasting chromatic fields, but purely, physically and perceptually two-dimensional, the project is developed on a rectangular plot of 18x6m, in which negative and positive equally divide the space. Other constraints concern the facades (maximum height of 9m) and the destination of use (house for an artist). In the realized project, however, the aleatory function originally established expands in its concept becoming a house for "HABITABLE EXHIBITIONS", equipped with the essentials for short stays, in which the central path becomes a small gallery for temporary exhibitions. The artist can rent the house to host collectors, and to interested or curious people. He can also open it to the public in order to give a greater and more
16
intimate experience of his work. In this sense, the ground floor, with its glass doors, opens completely onto the central patio allowing, even in the winter season, a continuity that makes the studio, the gallery and the kitchen/living room, through the patio, a single space of contemplation of art, domestic life and work. The corridor/gallery, the HUB of the project, consists of free-standing exhibition walls and modular bookcases that allow for the greatest flexibility in displaying small-scale sculptures and sketches. The exhibition route holds the individual living functions together, anchoring itself to the central void of the patio and supporting the introverted character of the building. At the same time, the gallery transgresses the intimate nature of the house, taking the visitor from the sleeping area to the panoramic terrace, an additional space for contemplation of both the building's volumes and the context in which it will be inserted.

P.XII: ‘el Pixi’ / bachelor thesis TYPOLOGY: LOCATION: TEAM: SOFTWARE: YEAR:
Public space / Urban regeneration Poblenou, Barcelona (ES) Personal project Rhinoceros, Photoshop, Autocad 2019
Through the study of urban voids, the thesis identifies the intervention area in the neighborhood of Sant Martì, and later in the barrio of Poblenou, taking advantage of the incentives given by the plan for the district 22@, approved by the city council in 2000. The 22@ project was created with the aim of transforming 200 hectares of industrial land into an innovative production district and Converting some of the old spaces into hubs of technological innovation transforming some of the most important industrial complexes of the city into cultural heritage. In the Poblenou, corporate headquarters of the knowledge society coexist with complexes which represent the industrial past, creating a unique environment of tradition and innovation. The plan, however, is not only designed for companies: in fact, it also includes in its objectives the creation of residential areas, infrastructure, services and parks, necessary for the
22
development of a community life that makes the neighborhood alive regardless of the simple need to visit it for work. The thesis proposes an analysis that is mindful of this specific urban context, and an alternative methodology of intervention, through the study of existing identities of the urban pattern. El P.XII tries to add new opportunities and perceptive qualities, inserting itself in the wide traditional development of the urban space of the Catalan capital and referring to urban theories such as Superillas studies and artistic theories such as the "Psycho Geography", the Situationist "drift" and the "Stranging". The project does not aim to become another center of the barrio, but takes the form a hybrid public space that seeks to incorporate public and private needs, in a fluid movement that allows residents first to get lost and then to find themselves, thus giving rise to the new identities necessary for an alternative development of life in Poblenou.

Urban regeneration & soustainable living Tamburi, Taranto (IT) G.V.Bua, A. Di Girolamo, F. Gramignano, R.Ibba, S.Serra Photoshop, Illustrator, Autocad 2019-2020
*Honorable Mention Winners - Villard21 The project starts from the recognition of the problems that affect the Tamburi district (pollution certainly but also the lack of urban identity and social marginality), identifying the objectives (ecological regeneration, habitability, recovery of identity) and finally the strategies/actions necessary to achieve the whole scenario. The project is rooted in the surrounding environment, which includes the coastal area of the two breasts of the "Mar Piccolo", SCI areas of community interest, and the current waterfront of Taranto. Starting from the district seafront and redevelopment of the axis of Via Lisippo, already in place with the project of the Urban Forest of "Land Studio", it locates its axes that will form the secondary green mesh of the district of Tamburi. To this analysis, we add a study of the redevelopment of empty urban space, the location of new services and bike paths that make it an even more
28
unified intervention, leading to structure the masterplan in phases that mark a hierarchical relationship between interventions made at different points in time. The attempt to trigger the process that, in addition to implementing the spatial quality, modifies the ways of living and defines a new concept of social habitat has had as key points: - URBAN GREEN (as an element of ecological regeneration and vehicle of sociality); - POROSITY (the interconnection and interpenetrability of spaces); - FLEXIBILITY (to ensure the multiplicity of behaviors that characterize human lives). The name GREENTOPIA, therefore, is not simply a slogan. It represents, as Marc Augé states in his book "Non-places", an act of naming that modifies, under the impulse of imagination, the perception of the place it designates, evoking their character, producing their myth and at the same time making it actually work.

"A geòde is a cavity inside an igneous rock covered with crystals". Inspired by the notion of geodes, the project develops an architectural "gem" (JOYA) within a block of the historic center of Porto, appropriating the residual spaces left by the abandoned buildings, recovering the unity of the street front and generating new public spaces for the Ribeira district. The new buildings become entrances and points of attraction, welcoming both public and private functions, maintaining a substantial cleanliness and regularity in the openings in the facades on the street front and, on the contrary, a randomness in the openings inside the park, emphasizing the difference between the narrow alleys and the public space of the gardens. The park represents the connecting element of the whole intervention,
34
developing on several levels, connecting the different road levels and the different functions of the buildings. The first level, entering from Rua Bainharia, acts both as a direct connection with Rua da Peña Ventosa through the public elevator, and as an extension space of the kindergarten. The second level is served by the hypogeous building of the bar, which in turn acquires a semi-private terrace. The third level therefore connects, in addition to the previous levels, Rua Escura with Rua da Peña Ventosa, adding to the public gardens the equipment for outdoor sports and comfort spaces necessary for the development of community life. The connections that are created, amplified by the functions and aesthetics of the project, aim to create a collection of public gardens that increase and improve the little porosity of the Ribeira neighborhood, becoming a new pole of attraction and breath for the community.
