Vizcaya Pavillion The project is located in the Vizcaya Park of Caracas; situated on the longitudinal side of the park along the river La Guarita. Currently this park does not have any infrastructure to support its operation or its users. This project seeks to meet and complement the needs of the park users by providing them with a structure that will support the park activities along with recreational areas, a coffee shop and other services. In addition, the project functions as a retaining wall for its strategic location on the slope overlooking the river, allowing the expansion of the park grounds along with new walkways that cross the pavilion.
The project consists of two parallel walls that together form a structure containing the main services and a cover that provides shade for all areas in and around the wall. Between the two walls there is also the main horizontal and vertical circulation of the project along with the services areas, and around the walls are all the recreational areas such as the coffee shop, gardens, terraces and a reflecting pool.

Coffee shop level floor plan The project provides users a much needed space inside the park of Vizcaya which serves not only as a rest area, get-together or support through its service areas, but also extends and complements the circulation spaces of the park thanks to its walkways, stairs and ramps, creating multiple new environments, using different visuals, light entries, double heights and works of art. In this way creating integration between context, architecture and art.

Bathroom & Bedroom design This project involved the remodeling of two rooms that shared a bathroom with the intention of turning them into a large master bedroom with bathroom. For this project we chose to have an open floor where the closets were the elements that define the space. On one side is the room area and on the other the bathroom with a tub, shower, and the only enclosed space that belongs to the toilet.

Meliรก Hotel As part of my undergraduate thesis, it was performed a research on building sustainability. The objective of the study was to apply LEED certification principles to the new Hotel Meliรก in Punto Fijo. Project in which I worked on during the internship in O+B project management & construction.
During the research phase of the project an extensive analysis and study of the Hotel Meliรก was performed, applying the LEED rating system to determine the current score of the building and thus evaluate which areas of the project could be tapped or improved to achieve a better score in the LEED rating.
Meliรก hotel
Following this evaluation stage, many areas that could be modified to improve the certification score were determined, however, it was concluded that the two areas that would achieve the greatest impact on the hotel would be two: landscaping and facade.

Meliรก hotel For landscaping, it was implemented a rainwater and grey water collecting system to irrigate all the green areas of the building; along with the use of local building materials and the use of native plant species with a low water consumption. This project involved much of the ground floor of the hotel and the pool area.
Academic project
For the facade it was determined the use of double skin facades and the use of louvers in the south and west sides of the hotel, which consists of a series of tubular aluminum profiles placed horizontally and separated from the main facade by 2ft, helping to reduce the solar gain on the building. The employment of this facade achieved great energy savings by significantly reducing the use of air conditioning inside the Hotel.

Children’s school This project is located in the village of Chuao, Aragua state. It is a village with 5,000 inhabitants that is completely isolated as the only way to get there is by sea, its main economic activities are fishing and cocoa plantation. The goal of the project was to build an addition to the existing educational system in the area promoting better education in the main economic activities for the children. The project concept is the tree as it is an essential natural element of life, is also the main economic source of the village, and a playground for the children.
Taking into account the high temperatures, the difficulty to transport construction materials to the area because of its isolation, its limited resources and the need to create a new education system for the community, it was decided to develop a project that would respect the environment and create a recreational space for the children using local materials. The project was located by the river as it is the cooler place on the village and is also a place frequented by the children were they go play.

Complete floor plan
The building is characterized by a wood structure which elevates the building, leaving the floor plan open so it can be used to teach the children the art of planting cocoa trees, as a shaded playground and also to protect the school in case the river floods on rain season. The building consists mainly of two modules and a series of roofs. The first module with residential spaces for those students that do not live in the village of Chuao, the second module generated around a large central plaza, designed for all cultural, social, academic activities, sports that the child’s home offers to the community and the series of roofs that protects the school from the sun and rain along all the building.

This city plan dictates that the police precinct must containing both the police station and residence for police. The building consists of two volumes and a plaza, that are formed and joined by a series of ribbons that binds and unifies the building.
The base of the building has a L-shape floor plan where the police station and all areas of community services are located; the base is located at the edge of the plot creating a public plaza on the other end for the city. On top of the base is the building with all the apartments for the police.
