How to turn your window into a light box Setting up and taking creative shots in the comfort of your own home is easy to do, and in this new DIY photography project we’re going to show you how to make a lightbox using nothing more than a WINDOW and some greaseproof paper.

But first, what is a light box? A variation of this is a box, with one open end, made of diffusing material, to allow the photographing of a sample object with no shadows.

Ok, now we are ready to start! 01 Set up the light box Tape a sheet of greaseproof paper to a window. You can either shoot the flowers on their stems, or cut them off as we have and tape them to the paper. If you do this make sure you use clear tape, and spread the petals over the paper so you can see through them.

How to turn your window into a light box 02 Switch to Av mode Set your camera to Aperture Priority mode so you can control the aperture. Set the aperture to f/8 to keep your images sharp from front to back, and set the ISO to 100 for detailed, noise-free shots.

03 Brighten the exposure Your camera will underexpose shots in an attempt to render bright backlight as a midtone, so go to the Exposure Compensation setting and dial in +1 stop of exposure compensation. CHECK your shots, and increase this as high as +2, if necessary.

How to turn your window into a light box 04 Set the focus Set the focus to the centre AF point, and make sure the centre of the flower is precisely in focus. If you’re photographing two or more flowers, set the focal point for the largest flower in the shot.

05 Use a tripod To ensure that your images are perfectly sharp, mount your camera on a tripod. Even pressing the button can cause slight camera shake, so for the best results use the self-timer or a remote release. You should START by composing your shot from a low angle, pointing upwards.

06 START shooting Now you can get shooting. Experiment by taking PHOTOS of one flower by itself or a bunch together. You can overlay different flowers on top of each other or just stick to one type as we have. It’s entirely up to you which composition you prefer!

Alaska: Lake Clark Lake Clark is a United States National Park in southwestern Alaska. It's a place where people can admire the stunning beauty of the pure nature! That's why we choose this destination for our first issue. A photographer there can capture the most beautiful sightseeings in the world.

How to get there

Lake Clark is a backcountry park. There are no roads, no campgrounds, and only one maintained hiking trail, Lake Clark National Park is a land of the Tanalian Trail. Travel from one stunning beauty where volcanoes location to another is by foot, kayak, steam, salmon run, bears forage, raft, boat, or small plane. More craggy mountains reflect in shimmering information on backcountry travel in turquoise lakes, and local people and the park can be found in the

Fujifilm: Instax mini 8 The Fujifilm Instax mini 8 is a basic point and shoot camera that takes instant photosand develops them like an old school Polaroid camera. The analogue camera looks like a toy and is guaranteed to have serious hipster appeal.

Cons

Pros Comfortable to operate Easy to use Slimmer than previous Instax models

Instax film is expensive Mixed image results Slow to develop film

Key Features Five mode exposure levels Always-on flash Takes instant photos 0.6m to 2.7m shooting range 1/60 seconds Fixed shutter speed Manufacturer: Fujifilm

Fujifilm: Instax mini 8 Should I buy an Instax mini 8 camera? If you want a break from the megapixels and the luxury of being able to empty rubbish photos into a recycle bin, the Fujifilm Instax mini 8 camera is a lot of fun. It's extremely easy to use, and you can capture some decent photo if you manage to match the right exposure levels with the right surroundings.

It has its obvious limitations. It runs on batteries and the films work out very expensive once you factor in how many photos you are likely to mess up. If you can accept that it’s going to cost you in the long term and like the idea of having something that is not all about uploading photos to Facebook, the Instax mini 8 camera is a cool, retro-styled camera that fans of Polaroids will love.

When we live in a world where the likes of Instragram and Hipstamatic reigns supreme, the Instax mini 8 is much more fun way It could also make a fun, simple way to introduce a child to photography.

4 Best DSRLs Cameras 1. Sony A6300

2. FUJI X-T10

Some are considering this more recent model a big brother to the Sony A6000. With its 24mp CMOS image sensor and ability to burst 11fps, the Sony A6300 will provide users with easy control while snapping shot after shot.

Fuji has made great strides in the mirrorless digital camera market as of recent. The Fuji X-T10 sports an APS-C size sensor and pushes a 16mp resolution. While other digital camera manufacturers like to sell you another camera every time there is an upgrade, Fuji is able to port its upgrades via firmware updates.

3. Olympus OM-D EM10 Mark II f you are looking more for masterful still shot capabilities, not being as seriously into video quality, the new E-M10 Mark II will serve well as a great introduction to the micro four thirds style cameras.

4. Canon EOS 700D/Rebel T5i If you are looking for a highly versatile DSLR camera for your next family trip, and you want a lot of bang for your buck, then the Canon EOS 700D/Rebel T5i may just fit the bill.

Sigma Global Vision Lens Mount Converter Sigma announced it's Global Vision Lens Mount Converter for Sone EMount cameras back in February. The good news for Sony EMount users is that the converter is now available for $249. “I have long been lured by the promise of aftermarket adapters to make all of the wonderful SigmaArt Lenses work on my Sony mirrorless cameras, but there was always a let down of some type…until now,” comments Brian Linhoff, Sigma Tech Rep. “I had the privilege of taking one of the first MC11 products out for a test shoot and it worked flawlessly. 10 minutes with Lee Towndrow Towndrow began his career as a designer and photographer at a design firm he founded. The firm was best known for creating the album cover artwork for prominent Canadian bands such as Sloan, The Flashing Lights, The Inbreds and Michelle McAdorey.

From 2004-2005 he lived in Buenos Aires, where he worked with Roberto Jacoby, the m7red center, fr:Raumlabor BerlinKiwi and Cecilia Sainz and Eugenia Herrera on conceptual art installations, such as Proyecto Venus, Darkroom and ArteBA.

Ok, let's go to find out more....

42Â page

When did you first know that you wanted to be a photographer? I started out as a graphic designer and found that I used to continually come up with designs that were largely photographic and less about the design. It was funny; the type kept getting smaller and smaller on my album covers until finally I was producing work that was almost entirely photographic.

Who were some of the first photographers that inspired you? Jeff Wall was the first photographer that really blew me away. I kept going back to the bookstore and staring at one of his monographs because I couldn’t afford it at the time. Then Larry Towell & Sebastian Salgado were exciting as I was going through a black and white documentary phase. Olaf Blecker was very very interesting to me to me as well in terms of what he did with studio portraits.

Your series ‘paper portraits’ are really intriguing – there is something so collage-y and pieced together and almost painted about them. How did you come up with the idea? There was an article by Richard Serra where he talked about working with the raw materials themselves when coming up with ideas. I had a lot of paper in my apartment and I started slashing at it with a razor blade, turning it, bending it, rolling it and coming up with sculptural forms. It occurred to me that it would make an interesting experience for my subjects if I hung these things all around them, so they would bump into them or have to lean around them. I’m always looking to create new experiences.

If you could go back ten years and give yourself advice, what would it be? It’ll be ok, just keep working and be patient. Any words of wisdom for the up and comers? Unless you’re independently wealthy, you need to find something to earn a living while you’re working on building something unique with your photographic work. So the challenge is to find work that pays you regularly, but still offers you the freedom to spend some time each week working on your personal work and taking assignments when they come.
