INTRO
Advances in bike computer technology constantly transform how we ride. Speedometers gave us new top speeds, heart rate monitors introduced “aerobic zones” and “intervals” to our vocabulary, now modern bike computers measure everything from power output to cadence all while telling us when the next junction is coming. Now we have reached a crossroad. The rise of internet- based riding apps continues to overshadow standard cockpit-mounted bike computers. These apps offer a vast array of functions beyond recording classic metrics. Thanks to software platforms that are open to a wide range of developers, the possibilities are practically endless.

SMART BIKE COMPUTER The Canyon Smart Bike Computer (SBC) is a concept for the world’s first app-based bike computer. Connecting the rider’s phone to the SBC with its Android Wear™ OS opens up a world of apps and takes the functionality and versatility of bike computers to a new level. No longer limited to one system, the rider can choose what they use to best suit what they are doing. Better still, the SBC can stay up-to-date with the release of new apps and updates – it will always have the latest features.

CONNECTED Bluetooth provides the best low energy platform to connect with heart rate monitors, power meters and other devices. Working towards usability with both major mobile operating systems, the SBC is fitted with GPS and can also be used as a standalone device. BUILT TO LAST With a high power battery offering 8-10 hours of run time in "Always On" mode, its waterproof construction, and a protective casing the SBC keeps performing throughout the longest and toughest days in the saddle. SLIDE ON Before or after riding, the SBC is installed or removed using a simple and secure sliding mechanism built into the stem front plate or cockpit.

INTELLIGENT INTEGRATION Our aim in designing the SBC was to find a sleak solution that seamlessly integrates with Canyon form. Gone are the days of rubber bands and bar clamps.

Whether road, mountain or urban bike, the SBC blends in with the cockpit to form a single unit, perfectly in-line with Canyon design. The key was to create a bike computer that is part of the bike, not an added on accessory.

The size of the SBC has to be perfect: it is compact enough to not disrupt the bike’s design yet its positioning out-front puts it in the rider’s line of sight so they can easily access the information on display.
