FOLIO OF WORK, LEE G IBSON // TWO TH O USAND & TH I RTEEN
In summer 2011, I was selected to receive the Boisbuchet Fellowship that allowed me to travel to France to design, fabricate, and install an exhibition that was supported by Domaine de Boisbuchet, Muji, and The Vitra Design Museum. Over two weeks using a limited material palette, the small team installed over 200 beautifully crafted and delicate hand-made aluminium objects within a French Mini Chateau.

To celebrate the success of the Prague Quadrennial Expo in 2003, SCAPE@MASSEY were invited to install as part of the International Festival of the Arts at the Wellington City Gallery, in the Hirschfeld Gallery. With a low budget, and only 24 hours to install, the scheduling for fabrication & installation was critical. As well as displaying photography & video of the overseas event, architectural models were set up to be viewed through large apparatus. The floor was designed to be a raised, ramped platform that would lift the visitor up into the space and float above the glowing floor. Done in collaboration with Prof. Dorita Hannah, Sven Mezhoud, as part of SCAPE@ MASSEY

Installation with Abruzzo-Bodziak Architects, who were selected as one of the top young firms in New York in 2012. I was invited to contribute to the design, developed design, prototyping, testing, and final installation at the Center for Architecture in New York. The installation was suspended 30 feet in the air, used two miles of rope, and one mile of electroluminescent wire to create a series of abstracted landscape elements that floated in space. A video that I shot/directed of the process can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/46858380

While studying at Parsons I was invited to design, fabricate, and install the exhibition that documented the development of the Interior Design Program at Parsons between 1955 - 1985. As a student in the MFA Interior Design Program it was a great opportunity to explore content, work with the Parsons Archive, collaborate with the curators, and also develop fabrication skills & expertise.

After working on several exhibitions at Parsons with the Sheila Design Center, I was invited by Director/Chief Curator, Radhika Subramaniam to design, fabricated & install an exhibition based on experiences of students at Parsons as part of the Occupy Movement. Along with the physical build I also developed the graphics for the show (top right) Sketches, digital models, renderings, and physical prototypes were used over the 10-day period from start to finish to communicate and build the final exhibition.

CASE STUDY ONE; 'What Happens When' was a experimental restaurant created in New York City in 2011 in a collaborative project involving design studio 'The Metrics'. Every thirty days the food, sound-scape, and the spatial experience was completely changed. I worked directly with the Creative Director/Founder of The Metrics, Elle Kunnos de Voss as her assistant in all stages of the creative process including; ideation and concept development, design development, visualization, prototyping, fabrication, and installation.

As part of the MFA Interior Design Program at Parsons, acclaimed artist & designer Allan Wexler led an exciting studio project where we investigated a local laundromat, with the focus on a complete redesign that looked to engage with the local community in a more meaningful manner.
Sketchbook, India 2008, Ink & Moleskine
The three week long project became an investigation into process, specifically the process of idea creation, with an explicit focus on 'iteration' as a powerful design tool. Three hundred and twenty-four drawings were completed over a eighteen day period.

CASE STUDY THREE;
inspiration SYSTEMS Systems used in design (such as proportioning systems) were introduced to our design process that introduced another layer of information to the consumer about the final design and the process.
Solid & simple materials, clean lines, and classic form.

We were interested in how the materials used in the footwear could connect directly to our local consumer, and it also become better with age.
inspiration ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
Mies van de Rohe utilized a simple, but very complex system of proportions to design the barcelona chair, and it was this specific drawing that became critical to the development of not only our products, but also to the overall brand and direction.

PROPORTION diagram A series of overlapping circles allowed us to create our own proportioning system specifically for the shoe - this system determined the location of both primary and secondary elements within the shoe.
Proportional relationships that were used to create the shoe model names; the 1.6, 1.0, & 0.6.
