A LETTER FROM OUR OWNERS Now with seventeen remarkable offices in our network, we are thrilled to celebrate the launch of this year’s second edition of The Collection! The power of the Sotheby’s International Realty brand has manifested throughout our history as a company and has carried through this year, as we opened new doors in South Boston, the South Shore and six locations across Cape Cod. Joining forces with Broadway Village Real Estate and Home Center Sotheby’s International Realty established our official presence in South Boston, Hingham and Cohasset. Our union with oldCape Sotheby’s International Realty extended our reach even further south into Barnstable County. We’ve already seen the synergy come to life, with organic connections and new opportunities flowing in all directions. With this expansion, we are more qualified than ever to assist clients in buying or selling their most valued possessions—their homes. Our agents have provided the expertise and due diligence to help an unparalleled number of buyers find the homes of their dreams despite the challenges that this record-breaking “seller’s market” poses within our marketplace. We achieved so much as a result of the great efforts put forth by our agent team, transcending $1 billion in sales this year by July 31st—faster than ever before! In addition, we experienced our busiest rental season ever in Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty history this year. These benchmarks are a tremendous validation of our team’s performance, and this achievement belongs to every agent who calls Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty their home. We strive to provide an environment that brings out the best in each of us, where we all experience both professional and personal growth. History:
Today:
80 Seaver Street, built 1893, Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge, Architects.
This home is a sophisticated blend of its rich history and tasteful modern updates. The acre and a half estate is comprised of a 9,100 square foot main house, a garage with room for six cars and a fully refurbished carriage house with renovated kitchen, bath, and two separate bedrooms. The grounds of the home have been lovingly restored with much thought given to merging the gardens and terrace with the home in a seamless way for the the lifestyle of today’s family and entertainer. The Porte Cochere was recently restored to its original glory by one of the finest carpentry outfits in the Boston area, Payne Bouchier.
Joseph H. White, one of the original developers of Fisher Hill, had built his large residence further down the slope of the hill ten years earlier. His estate also included a farmhouse, a stable with tenements, a barn, and a greenhouse. He may have wished to set the tone for future construction on Fisher Hill by erecting this large Jacobethian style house, now known as 80 Seaver Street, on his property for his daughter and son-in-law. The completed house was rented rather than given to the couple. The son-in-law was John Batchelder, Jr., of Batchelder Brothers, Coal, and Lumber.

DRIVEN BY OUR HEARTS Colleen Barry, Chief Executive Officer of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty, on channeling your inner Einstein and rethinking the mantra that all growth is good. Someone once asked a profound question that fundamentally changed how we communicate with each other every day... “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first fifty-five minutes determining the proper question to ask. Once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes.”
Are our cultures and values a fit? Will this move help our team succeed? Will our team help them succeed?
In an era of precipitous change and a culture of instant gratification, it’s all too simple to upend this distinctive approach. After all, we’re no Einsteins, and it is easy enough to grow by acquisition or launch a new partnership solely to rapidly increase size or revenue. Such growth initiatives, however, will not be as sustainable or profitable as those that are generated by taking a thorough look inside the company itself.
As far as I am concerned, Larry and Paul have revolutionized our business by putting their hearts into each and every decision. They are consistently driven by their core values, and always return to them when they are weighing options for growth— principles upon which both men run their lives and their company. Over the course of time, so many businesses forget why they built themselves in the first place, sacrificing long-established morals for the sake of growth itself. Larry and Paul do not fall into this trap—they understand that the most strategic forecast of success is joining together compatible professionals who share the same principles and best practices. The greatest way to accomplish long-term goals of growth is to root them in a people-focused mission that deserves our dedication. And sometimes, this means saying “no” to growth opportunities that are simply not a match.
When a merger or acquisition is first announced, many instinctively speculate about who “the others” are and why the union creates value. To curtail the “our” company versus “their” company dynamic, our co-owners, Larry Rideout and Paul McGann, begin each acquisition process with questions that are worth the time:
This year, we were thrilled to join forces and pool our resources with three liked-minded companies who echoed our close-knit leadership approach and family-oriented culture, bringing keen opportunities for growing into our feeder markets. As President of our affiliate company on Cape Cod—an organization
This was the great Albert Einstein’s unique method for quick problem-solving: questions are the answer.

we acquired in September of 2018— Howard Hayes built his entire real estate career surrounded by a team he deeply cared for. One of the most memorable mornings I have experienced in a long time was one I spent with Howard a few weeks prior to announcing our union. We sat together on his deck in Brewster, watching families from afar digging for clams as we shared stories about our own families— the remarkable associates at the heart of our respective companies. He reminded me so much of Larry and Paul. Each of them possesses a tremendous breadth of knowledge and an enviable set of business skills that make them such successful leaders. But more importantly, all three of these men are guided by a refreshingly uncomplicated set of strong family values. Companies try many strategies for creating value for their associates through acquisitions—but only a handful actually do so. Leaders who neglect to inspire their teams with a sense of deep purpose and shared values may still make decent livings. Even so, they will never achieve an equivalent level of success and professional and personal fulfillment as those who deeply care about their people. For Larry and Paul, honorably representing their company and nurturing its brand is far more important than merely filling any margin or portfolio gap, and the results speak for themselves.

Hearth & Home We’ve reached that time of year—as temperatures cool down, we embrace the most romantic notion of cabin fever, one filled with glowing indoor fires, satisfying drinks, good company, and absolute ease. Fireplaces are often classified as the focal point of every room. After all, it was not too long ago that they were the central source of heat inside every home. Since then, the fireplace has evolved into a highly decorative and architectural form, gracefully blending artistry and innovation. On frigid winter nights, families curl up around them to enjoy their

radiant warmth. Whatever its style, be it an intricate stone-carved gothic masterpiece or a high-tech showpiece with clean, bio-fueled flames, a fireplace brings comfort and grandeur to any hearth and home. Here are three elegant Boston-area dwellings with fireplaces to warm the body and soul.
701 COUNTRY WAY, SCITUATE In the home’s entryway, a sweeping Brazilian cherry bridal staircase and intricately carved wooden arches tell the story of a previous era—it was built in 1893 as a private library for the seacoast town of Scituate. Though it has since been completely updated, the dwelling remains an iconic hallmark of the suburb’s history, still emulating the distinctive grandeur of a 19th century library. Greeted by an ornate iron fence, stone wall and commanding circular driveway, residents arrive to a light-filled central living area anchored by an inviting tiled fireplace. The gorgeous tiled hearth warms the stylish space, making it an enviable dwelling to call home through the harsh winters. Adorned with cathedral ceilings and views of the outdoor patio and fountain, each room exudes sheer majesty. The private backyard space is ideally designed for relaxation, where residents and guests can enjoy pre-dinner drinks and conversation on balmy summer evenings. The richlycolored study looks especially cozy. With a bar uniquely nestled inside a room evocative of a London-look telephone booth, the office space is perhaps the most unique room in this home. Beautiful cherry cabinetry is outfitted with enough shelves to accommodate any homeowner’s personal library collection. Residents can grab a book, pour themselves a cocktail, and curl up by the crackling blaze. $2,290,000 Gibson Sotheby's International Realty Elizabeth Roberts 857.205.3397 Bernadette Faulkner 781.856.7694

51 NAUSET ROAD, ORLEANS Three indoor fireplaces and a beach-facing stone fire pit are elegant and intimate features to counter the chilly Autumn days and embrace the warmth of summer nights. Two floor-to-ceiling fireplaces, set inside beautiful stone walls, stand tall on the first floor. Soaring beamed ceilings allow for a higher level of decorative impact. Fixed glass window panes around the perimeters of the main living room reflect the glowing embers. Characterized by its open, airy livings spaces, the main level is the quintessential space for socializing, cooking and dining. Upstairs, an understatedly elegant white fireplace warms the master bedroom, complete with breathtaking panoramic views of the lavish sunrises and sunsets above the Atlantic. The roaring fire pit, centrally positioned on the home’s back patio, serves as a heat source while simultaneously helping extend the outdoor season just a little longer. With stunning views of Nauset Beach, a chic lounge area invites all to enjoy the crisp autumn air, early nightfall, and falling leaves, the natural textures of stone effortlessly complementing the setting. 10 CHARLES RIVER SQUARE, BOSTON This beautifully renovated Beacon Hill residence is a Georgian Revival beauty, so it’s no surprise the original fireplaces have been so lovingly maintained. Framed by matching sconces, each fireplace is a master class on symmetry. When the weather dips, residents will be lured into the sophisticated formal room with striking red walls for optimal autumnal coziness. The home itself proffers the finest architectural details: intricate crown moldings, fine interior woodwork, and a whopping six massive fireplaces to suit the needs and desire of every family member. In the elegant dining room, the glow and warmth of the fireplace adds to the ambiance of dinner parties and holiday gatherings, inviting guests to linger over dessert and coffee. Dating back to 1899, the original brick fireplaces positioned in each palatial living room emulate a feeling of age and permanence. The mantels are painted a demur shade of cream, complementing the rich café-color brick surround.
Enclosed by lush gardens, and nestled in the crescent of a charming European-style cul-de-sac, this hidden jewel of a home faces the Charles River and is one of the Beacon Hill square’s largest floor plans, with 6 bedrooms and 4 baths in 4,412 square feet of living space. A private deck off the full-floor master suite and an expansive rooftop space both transport residents into a magical autumn oasis—carefully sip a hot spiced cider and feast on seasonal ingredients while taking in picturesque views of the red, orange and yellow foliage peeking through Boston’s skyline. Sitting by a warm, roaring fireplace is one of the few everyday joys during the coldest months of the year. A fire, burning safely within the confines of a fireplace, is a visible and tangible source of comfort—from its warmth, the beauty of its flames, and the pleasant aroma that it imparts to the surrounding air. $4,250,000 Gibson Sotheby's International Realty Allison Mazer 617.905.7379 Second Edition 2018 The Collection

HOUSE GUEST Written by Becca Logue
20 The Collection Second Edition 2018
From the street to the studio to the stage, Drew Nelson is a marvel of calm, resolute strength. It’s tough to imagine a physical endeavor more difficult than ballet (ask any professional football player pushed to use classical dance to improve on the field). Perhaps that’s why it’s such an appealing art to watch for so many people— you know there’s no way to achieve that level of elegance without exceptional discipline, intensive training, and physicsdefying strength. That’s what makes Drew Nelson so special. At the promising age of twenty-three, he is one of the worldrenowned Boston Ballet’s dancers, having been promoted last year to a second soloist. He is, essentially, the perfect dancer—a strong, lithe body articulated by beautifully arched feet and an ability to rise above the challenging technique to feel—and project—genuine joy. Nelson’s rise was meteoric, not that you’d ever know it from talking to him. His warmth and humility are at complete odds with his skill. “For me, it is not about the rank, it’s about growing as an artist. It pushes me to new limits.” Today, Nelson is never not busy. His training schedule makes it abundantly clear that dancers— especially those of his caliber— work at Olympic levels on their craft. Beyond being in awe of his days of workouts, classes, rehearsals and performances, we are inspired by his deviation from a one trackminded twenty-something, to a wellness-seeking and mindful young artist and athlete. “Each day, I wake up, enjoy a
big breakfast and engage in approximately forty minutes of prehabilitation exercises and warm-ups,” recounts Nelson. “We have class at 9:45, so I ride my bike over to the studio. I typically have three hours of rehearsal time, an hour break for lunch, and then another three hours. So depending on the show, I may have six hours of rehearsal each day. If we’re in the peak of a performance and rehearsing in the theater on stage, we arrive a bit later, around 11:45 a.m. After breaking for dinner, we turn into night owls, rehearsing until around 10:30 p.m. Performances typically begin at 7:30 p.m., while matinees kick off at 1:30 p.m.” This translates into five or six weekly performances. Dancing in The Nutcracker requires an even deeper commitment, with performances totaling between six and eight each week. Nelson’s introduction to ballet was love at first sight. His journey began nearly seventeen years ago when his mom enrolled him in dance in Princeton, New Jersey. “As a kid, I loved the show Power Rangers and wanted to do karate. My mom told me that if I wanted to do karate, then I had to do ballet—my sister was taking dance lessons herself and my mom didn’t want to drive around to all these different places.” From there, the Omaha, Nebraska native honed his young talent as a student at the School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theater Second Edition 2018 The Collection

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. At age ten, Nelson was featured in the BBC documentary series My Life As A Child, chronicling his early dance aspirations over the course of nearly one year. At thirteen, he briefly reduced his ballet commitments and engaged mostly in local dance classes, allowing him to enjoy the freedom of his teenage years. Soon after, Nelson moved to Florida to train with renowned ballet teacher and coach, Peter Stark. “For most, the decision to be a professional dancer is made as a child, with most careers truly launching between the ages of eighteen and twenty. There are some, though, who go to college to study dance and then get hired by a professional
22 The Collection Second Edition 2018
company later in their lives.” Nelson was later awarded a scholarship to attend The Royal Ballet School in London, England, and upon graduating in 2014, he joined the Royal Danish Ballet. Since joining the Boston Ballet, Nelson’s talent has landed him numerous principal roles including Von Rothbart in Mikko Nissinen’s Swan Lake and Snow King in The Nutcracker. “Both are staple, classical ballets that I feel like everyone should definitely experience.” Standing at just over 6’1”, Nelson has performed the role of the stilt-walking
Mother Ginger three times. Appositely, his earliest role was as a little Polichinelle boy, one of Mother Ginger’s children. Before taking into the theater, Nelson had only one rehearsal in studio working with the over fifty-pound costume. “Every year it gets easier and easier,” Nelson told the Boston Ballet Staff of the role. “It’s just like riding a bike.” With a skill that is timeless and treasured worldwide, Nelson’s nearly lifelong career has afforded him the opportunity to perform in a myriad of international cities across Europe and Russia—where ballet is the visiting card of its culture. He and the Ballet will travel to Paris in the Spring.
Surprisingly so, Nelson is a self-proclaimed homebody. “Staycations are my thing. I have been a dancer with the Boston Ballet for four seasons now, and I am so grateful for the amazing travel opportunities that have entered my life because of my position. That being said, sometimes I think the best part of traveling is coming home… is that okay to admit?” Nelson’s relaxing abode is situated on the top floor of a charming 5th floor walkup facing the South End’s Blackstone Square—a home he purchased through Daria McLean of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty. “Part condo, part treehouse, part bike shop,” as he describes it, Nelson’s home is the subject of one of his top-priority ventures outside his career. On his free afternoons, you’ll often find him scrolling through Instagram in search of home design inspiration. “I’m a lover of the classics, both in dance and home design, so I take great pleasure in the Victorian row houses, iron gates, and historic pocket parks that surround me as I bike through the neighborhood. On mild winter afternoons, the bare trees in Blackstone Square reveal packs of dogs
running through the park. I return home each day feeling refreshed and excited to embrace the harmony of my routine.” His passion for the beautiful urban community in which he lives and works has incited some exciting ambitions. “Real estate is certainly a career I hope to pursue in the future. I love the process of dance as much as the performance, and I think that process coincides well with real estate. You begin working closely with people and you get to know them and enjoy an incredible process of discovery. When it all ends, you’ve experienced a journey together and can celebrate the beautiful results of your hard work.” His dream role? “Albrecht in Giselle. The ballet has stood the test of time–not only because of the otherworldly beauty of its ballet blanc, or “white act,” but because of the universal passion and drama of its storyline. Also, Siegfried in Swan Lake.” Photos courtesy of Morgan O’Neil MorganONeilPhotography.com

through THE EYES of KATE VAN GELDERN BOWLER @DOMESTIKATEBLOG
Kate Van Geldern Bowler has been the author of the popular lifestyle blog, DomestikatedLife.com, for nearly a decade, chronicling her adventures in entertaining, home cooking, DIY projects, and life as a new mother. Exploring the charming coastal town of Scituate, where she resides has allowed for endless, unbelievable photo ops, helping her build a following of approximately 20,000 followers on Instagram. Her blog does not only provide inspiration; it's chock-full of logistical advice and tips on arranging flowers, organizing your linen closet and baking the perfect pie. What’s more, her very first entertaining cookbook, New England Invite: Fresh Feasts to Savor the Seasons, was just released in October of this year—a guide to over seventy recipes and all things, décor, seasonal blooms, and more for your upcoming fêtes. What is your favorite room in your home and why? I think the living room is my favorite room in the house because it went through such a transformation since we first moved in. When we bought our house, we needed some serious vision to see the potential. There were a lot of quirks (like a hair-salon in what is now my office), wallpaper, old carpet, and tons of dark wood paneling. The living room had the worst of the wood paneling. After applying ten coats of white paint to cover up that dark woodwork and ripping up some old shaggy mauve carpet, we ended up with a living room that is bright, cozy and modern. I’m so proud of our DIY work that transformed that space. Where you raise your family is one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make. What specifically about the South Shore captured your heart? We landed on the South Shore truly because it possesses a lot of the things we previously loved about living in the city—like walkable downtowns with cute shops and great restaurants—while offering us the comforts and space of suburban living and the perk of being close to the water. With the holiday season fast approaching, Kate shares how she throws the perfect holiday celebration, cooks up festive meals her family and guests will enjoy, and creates consistent content that truly resonates with her devoted followers. Can you share any tips for the perfect holiday table setting? My best tips for creating a beautiful table setting for your guests are to think about the functionality of the space. Will each guest have enough room, can people see over the
24 The Collection Second Edition 2018
centerpiece, and is there ample space on the table for food and wine (the important stuff)? I also almost always start with classic white plates, because they work for every occasion. Get creative with the table linens to make them work for your occasion! I like to think about bringing in seasonal elements to make it feel current—natural elements are an inexpensive way to do that. Pumpkins and gourds in different shapes and sizes, small bud vases filled with in-season flowers, or cut branches and greenery from your yard in clear mason jars are all very simple, but impactful ideas. What was the most memorable celebration that you've planned? Are there any annual gatherings that you host at your home? My wedding is definitely my most memorable celebration that I planned – it was brimming with DIY projects and definitely reinforced my love of throwing parties! My other favorite gathering though is for New Year’s. We have always hosted a big New Year’s Eve party—it’s my favorite holiday, I love the idea of celebrating a fresh start! It’s evolved a bit over the years—two years ago I hosted it eight days before my due date, and my husband convinced me to pull back on my usual over-the-top party and have some friends over for a low-key dinner party with take-out. It ended up being one of my favorite celebrations! And last year, we decided to switch to a New Year’s Day brunch since so many of our friends have young children—I really love seeing how the party evolves with us each year.
What is your favorite fall recipe in New England Invite? It’s a tie! I love the macaroni and cheese stuffed apples—they have a real “wow” factor in both flavor and presentation. I also love the pumpkin butter. It’s so simple to make and it fills the home with the most beautiful fall scents. Aside from your book launch, the holidays are fast approaching, so it’s clear you’re definitely busy right now! What else do you have planned for this year? I am spending lots of time at the end of this year touring around New England for book signings and events, which has been a very exciting experience so far. I’m also cooking up several new holiday features for my blog—it’s the best time of year to write about entertaining! And I’m really looking forward to celebrating the holidays with my family. Our daughter is almost two years old, and this time of year is magic with little ones. What do your family and friends make of the success you've achieved with your brand? My family is a big part of the success, so I think they feel proud! I’m so lucky to have such an amazing, supportive, tight-knit family that has jumped in to help me make big things happen. Writing my cookbook was a family affair, it was done on a pretty tight timeline and they all pitched in for babysitting, dish-washing, therapy sessions, and lots of recipe testing feedback. I’m so grateful for them!

TRADITIONAL
MEETS MODERN Written by Becca Logue Winter will soon have us firmly clutched in her icy grip, and soaking up the simple pleasures of natural beauty under the Los Cabos sun is the perfect relief. Cabo’s sunny climate and relaxed lifestyle has earned the Baja destination far-flung desirability, prompting a high influx of tourists and visitors. Luckily, one of Cabo’s most striking luxury homes is positioned on a beach that emerges relatively unscathed, serving as a permanent oasis from the tourism frenzy. Casa Bahía Rocas is tucked away on over two acres of beachfront paradise, bestowing the feeling that the location is the most off-the-radar stretch of sand. As the sleepy towns and secret coves along the resort city’s shorelines get discovered, overdeveloped, and over-Instagrammed, the villa provides exceptional luxury and optimal privacy—life as it was meant to be lived. The 12,000 square foot estate is located within the exclusive and secure gated enclave of Villas del Mar within Palmilla. After dinner at a rustic Mexican kitchen or flashy new steakhouse, residents are welcomed home through the circular foyer to the spectacular Great Room, complete with vaulted wood-beam ceilings, spacious formal dining space and a towering floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. IMPORTANT and
PERFECTspot The ICA Watershed lends an expansive, open exhibition space that retains the rugged character of the building's past. In East Boston’s shipyard lies a former copper pipe and sheet metal factory first opened in the 19th century. Before longtime Institute of Contemporary Art director Jill Medvedow orchestrated the repurposing of the dilapidated structure, it was the only unoccupied building left in the active shipyard and marina. A sleek garage-style door ushers visitors into a 50-by-300-foot outpost. It's gritty but clean, with untouched exposed brick and a colossal new roof. Industrial gantries and chains hang from the ceiling. Old train tracks are still visible across the floor, keeping with the building’s original elements and wholeheartedly integrating the space with East Boston.
32 The Collection Second Edition 2018
The Watershed—which opens at the far end to the harbor—is named as a reference both to its location along Boston Harbor and what the museum hopes the new venue will symbolize for Boston’s arts community. It is the neighborhood’s first major arts destination, dramatically altering the vibe of East Boston’s urban landscape. It was Medvedow who initiated the move to the ICA, founded in 1936, to the once-isolated Seaport neighborhood in 2006. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the 65,000-square-foot contemporary art venue once stood alone in a sea of parking lots. Today, the area is booming with new construction, and the museum has further expanded into another less-treaded area with the lease of the

an
“We always knew, when we built the ICA, that there were going to be buildings that came up around and behind it,” said Medvedow at The Watershed’s ribbon-cutting in June. “As we began to think about an expansion, we started to think about the ways in which we could welcome more and more people into the ICA community, how to expand the circle, how to grow our audience, [and] how to create extraordinary encounters with works of art. It seemed like an important and perfect spot.” With the development of The Watershed, the ICA has stressed the impact of the institution on the cultural and civic lives of its local communities. Admission is free (the ferry is included with museum admission, though the Watershed can be accessed via a 10-minute walk from the nearest T stop), and all exhibition texts are presented in English and Spanish, in the hope of being more accessible to East Boston residents, more than half of whom speak Spanish. “We wanted to make sure that people from East Boston felt welcome here, and that we reduced all barriers to participation,” Medvedow has said. “It’s yet another way of trying to be inviting to people for whom sometimes museums are unfamiliar or daunting.” To that end, the long and narrow space features a wall map of what the area looked like in the early 1800s, highlighting the group of raised islands that were once East Boston. A shipyard gallery and short film that calls on historians, community leaders and residents to divulge the neighborhood’s history is also on display. San Francisco-born artist Diana Thater inaugurated the new space with two monumental works. The installation centered on Delphine, designed as a response to The Watershed’s raw, industrial space and waterfront location. According to the ICA’s website, Delphine created an immersive environment through underwater film and
video footage of swimming dolphins across the museum’s ceiling, floor, and walls. As Medvedow described, Thater’s immersive experiences through light and moving-image projections “offer[ed] visitors an extraordinary introduction to the Watershed and raise[ed] urgent questions about the impact of human intervention on the environment.” Sculptural video installations, including 'A Runaway World' and 'As Radical as Reality,' comprise Thater’s second exhibit, focused on the experiences of species on the verge of extinction and the illicit economies that threaten their survival. “I’d say the mission of the space is multifold,” continued Medvedow. “One piece is having artists whose work has some relevance and connection to that site. That can include ideas about labor and the working people in that shipyard. In the case of Diana Thater, those ideas are about the fragility and vulnerability of the natural environment. In the future it might be about the material in that space.” The city’s waterfront and harbor, scene of the historic Boston Tea Party, imparts a rich backdrop for artists exploring societal issues— from immigration to global commerce to rising sea levels. After all, the shipyard used to be second only to Ellis Island as the largest port for immigration to America. That legacy continues as part of the makeup of East Boston. The Watershed serves as a site for the type of large-scale solo presentations that do not fit comfortably within the walls of the ICA's flagship at Fan Pier in the Seaport. It is open to the public during the warm months of the year. A new exhibition will occupy the space next season, which will run between the months of May and October. hen they bought the house – an antique farmhouse with an odd 1920’s wing off the back - their kids were no longer babies and not yet adults. They wanted a place for them to come of age and to ground them as they set out into the world. 124 Goden Street has been just that. With its four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and a huge yard, it gave everyone their space and had the right balance of old and new. Much of the original farmhouse built in 1850 remains, to warmly welcome you as only an antique house can. They have added on a beautiful modern kitchen and great room, a dreamy spa master bathroom, and re-imagined the out-of-doors with pretty gardens, a large terrace, and a fabulous saltwater pool for endless summer fun. Now that their kids are launched, it’s time for a new chapter, and to pass along stewardship of the “The Shire” to a new owner who can call it home.

ajestic. Gracious. Lovely. When they bought the house, it needed work, yet it had a beckoning front hall, soaring ceilings and magnificent light. It also offered enough space for their family. The three older kids could live on the top floor, while the younger two could be on the 2nd floor, close to mom and dad. 22 Craigie St. is an exquisite illustration of Cambridge luxury, the perfect balance of old and new, big and cozy, and formal and informal. The southfacing deck and yard connect seamlessly to the kitchen/family room and sitting room/library through a faรงade of large glass doors. The living room and parlor retain the deep moldings and gorgeous 2 over 2 windows from 1871. The owners have cared for their house, maintained it beautifully, and painted it a striking green to let you know there is something special inside. Now, after 35 years. under their careful watch, you too have a rare opportunity to own this special home in coveted West Cambridge.
