Shaping the future
TECH LIVE LONDON is a showcase for the future of technology and how it will impact our lives Turn on the news today and all you are likely to hear is war, food shortages, climate change, hyper inflation, inequality, and global recession. Not to mention industrial action… In these challenging times, people inevitably turn to technology as a potential saviour. Whether fair or not, technological advancement is seen as providing if not a solution then certainly a brighter outlook, and that is what we expect to hear over two days of insights from global business leaders making meaningful change. You are in good company, surrounded by likeminded, forward-thinking leaders and innovators doing their best for a better future. We are not saying for one second that technology is the proverbial silver bullet, but we do hope and expect you go away from TECH LIVE LONDON thinking that the world has the chance to be a better place. That’s what all of our speakers are striving for, and something we can all aim for.

Prior to Claroty, Chassar ran the cybersecurity sales business at NTT. “In my time at NTT I observed a rise in the number of attacks on the industrial critical infrastructure environments, so when I was looking at my next career move, I homed in on OT and IOT security as the next step,” says Chassar. “My favourite thing about the industry is the conversations around protecting our 4

So for me, the business discussion around protecting these critical environments is an interesting sector to be in.”

“ IF AN ORGANISATION DOESN’T HAVE A POLICY OR PROJECT UNDERWAY, THEN THEY SHOULD START ONE IMMEDIATELY” Simon Chassar CRO, Claroty on a journey with me, we like to make sure that as an organisation we are enjoying ourselves and making sure that we learn from each other and support each others’ wellbeing. So I take inspiration out of seeing others develop and enjoy what they do,” says Chassar. He adds: “Aside from my family, my proudest achievement from a career point of view began when I joined VMware in 2007, at the start of the technology virtualisation journey within servers. During my time at VMware the growth and demand in the market really stretched my abilities as an individual to
develop myself and learn new skills and new technologies. “That then set me up for when I joined NTT and had the opportunity to integrate five security companies together. I think seeing people come together as one company, and the success of integrating into one organisation, was another huge milestone in terms of career satisfaction.

TRUSTWORTHY TECHNOLOGY IS SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY
T
ortoise and Kainos spoke to a range of experts throughout the field of artificial intelligence; from executives and technicians, to researchers and government officials. Those insights can now be revealed in the form of three hypotheses about how the domain of trust in artificial intelligence is changing: ‘The future of trust in artificial intelligence: responsibility, understandability and sustainability’. To coincide with the report, Kainos will join TECH LIVE LONDON to heed a warning that risks from misuse of artificial intelligence, much like the impact of humans on our planet’s climate, need to be addressed urgently. Trust in the AI ecosystem is largely dependent on data, the conclusions and predictions reached, and the sensitivity of the system to bias and other influences. As governments and corporations are also considering ways of ensuring that 16
June 2022
the technologies are lawful, ethical and robust, Kainos discusses the increase in regulation around data over the last few years due to GDPR, the growing importance of cybersecurity and the role of AI ethics on the imminent EU AI act.
Language, automation and trust Kainos will elaborate on the move towards sustainability that has seen professionalisation, standardisation and mechanisms for disclosure – all to create confidence that the world economy can decarbonise, be governed fairly and embrace an inclusive society. Much like the major drivers that propelled the original Industrial Revolution: language, automation and trust, the latter in particular is vital to tempering AI for widespread use today, lowering the barrier of entry in order to accelerate adoption.
KAINOS
Ethics vital to wider AI adoption Kainos suggests that if we don't act today in a responsible and ethical way, in terms of how we develop and deploy AI to help users understand its capabilities, then this lack of trust will limit or prevent the adoption of artificial intelligence over the next few years. Acting early can mitigate and prevent some of those issues from arising, and Kainos will share tips on these first steps.

TECHNOLOGY ENABLED SOCIAL PRESCRIBING AND GAMIFICATION APPROACHES TO LINK COMMUNITIES TO LOCAL GREEN SPACES
48
June 2022
T
ime spent outdoors and in nature can boost well-being and keep us active, and technology-based social prescribing is an exciting way to achieve this for health-promoting lifestyle change. Tag With Me is a new interactive mobile platform developed by the Smart Sensing Lab at Nottingham Trent University that provides an innovative, fun and accessible way of using technology-enabled social prescribing and gamification approaches to link communities to local green spaces. Tag With Me provides tourist attractions, parks and other venues their own locationspecific personalised app. The platform takes advantage of the latest advances in AI for realtime object recognition and IoT for localised proximity detection, interacting with a network of devices equipped with short-range wireless communications including (Bluetooth, WIFI, and Near Field Communication (NFC)) that can unlock rich media contents. These IoT devices are distributed around the game space to represent Points of Interest (POIs), when the user gets closer their presence triggers a game action, Within the app users are guided by prompts and nudges, as they get in close proximity to key POIs one of four interactive activities is activated. Firstly “Teach Me” educates users about the current location. “Answer Me” quizzes users with a multiple-choice locationspecific question to provide an educational experience. “Tag Me” is ideal for large open areas such as parks as it promotes exploration by requiring users to find and tap a nearby
SSL - SMART SENSING LAB
tag. Finally, “Scan Me” utilises advances in AI for real-time object recognition whereby users aim to point their smartphone camera at a specific nearby point of interest to automatically identify the object. Once an activity has been completed the user earn a point and continues finding the remaining locations, gamifying the entire experience. Tag With Me has currently been implemented at Rufford Abbey Country Park in the form of the Tag in the Park application where it has successfully encouraged visitors to spend longer at the park, explore further and increased visitor economy. Additionally, we are currently working with Highbury Hospital, Nottingham to implement Tag 4 Active Lives to promote green social prescribing to hospital service
users and explore the impact of the platform of mental wellbeing. Tag With Me is a generic gamification platform that aims to transform wellbeing by encouraging people to connect with their local environment. As a freestyle game, players can start at any time and at any location, with no time limits. It can be adopted for a wide range of large venues including hospitals, schools, castles, museums and parks to provide an educational experience whilst also promoting physical activity.
