Girlstart’s mission is to empower girls in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Founded in Austin, Texas, in 1997, Girlstart is one of the few community-
y e
based informal education programs in the nation specifically dedicated to empowering and equipping K–12 girls in STEM. Girlstart develops and implements a range of innovative, research-based education and mentorship programs designed to promote girls’ early engagement and academic success in STEM, encourage postsecondary aspirations and persistence in the STEM pipeline among women and other under-represented groups, and develop a diverse STEM workforce for the 21st century.

Summer Camps
Girls In STEM Conference
Theme based, week-long day camps designed to increase confidence and interest in STEM. Themes have included Pet Vet, Girl MD, Designer Paradise, Girlstart Investigates and more.
Part of the Expanding Your Horizons network, the Girls In STEM Conference is designed to encourage girls to consider and pursue STEM careers. Women working in STEM fields conduct hands-on workshops based on their careers.
After School Programs Girls master the scientific method and STEM skills through intensive, informal STEM after school programs.
Since its inception, Girlstart has served more than 22,000 girls and 5,500 teachers and families through school- and community-based programs—held at the Girlstart Science & Technology 1.indd 1 Center am_01181in Austin and other venues throughout Central Texas—including after school clubs, GS_progr summer camps, science career conferences and expos, large-scale science events for families, teacher workshops, online teaching and learning resources, and virtual learning communities.
Professional Development Girlstart has served 3,500+ teachers in integrated STEM workshops and the Girlstart Method. Workshops include digital microscopes, interactive boards, game development, robotics and more.
Through its Applied Research Initiatives Project IT Girl and Aiming for Algebra (both funded by the National Science Foundation), Girlstart also works to increase girls’ competency in critical STEM subject areas such as computer programming and middle-school math, and model a pathway to STEM post-secondary education and careers. At the conclusion of Project IT Girl’s three-year pilot (2006–09), 87% of participants enrolled in a four-year university, 80% are pursuing STEM majors, and 79% expressed intent to pursue a STEM career.
Public STEM Education Provides workshops, science nights, science fairs, StarLab and quarterly Community Science Extravaganzas for girls and their families that introduce STEM concepts.
98% of summer camp participants experienced increased confidence in doing STEM activities
Virtual STEM Education Girlstart maintains educational websites and blogs including Girlstart.com, Project IT Girl, Girlstart Blog and Digital Detectives that provide content-rich resources for girls, families and teachers.

Girlstart has facilitated over 100 week-long camps. Themes have included a wide range of topics to engage students in STEM.
Girlstart provides Saturday camp workshops, science nights, community booths, StarLab and quarterly Community Science Extravaganzas that introduce STEM concepts to girls and their families. Check the calendar on our website for dates and locations.

A Day in the Life of Girlstart Camp In 2009’s (week-long) Animal Clinic Summer Camp, for example, girls learned about veterinarians, marine biologists, doctors, and filmmakers through exploration of biology, ecology, and chemistry as well as learning how to use technologies and tools that support these professions. At the conclusion of each camp, girls share what they have learned by publicly presenting the projects they have done during the week in a Showcase. Parents participate in these Showcases as observers and learners.

Girlstart’s mission is to empower girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We accomplish this mission by developing innovative models and processes for teaching STEM, empowering girls to achieve in STEM education and pursue STEM careers, and feeding the national STEM workforce. Since 1997, Girlstart has served over 22,000 girls and 5,500 teachers and families with school-based programs, workshops for teachers, summer camps, science career conferences and expos, large-scale science events for families, and more.
Big Voices for Little Texans is an easy, yet powerful way you can show support for abused and neglected children in Texas. For only $30 in addition to the standard registration fee, you can help victims of child abuse and neglect by ensuring these children have a Court Appointed Special Advocate®.

But, the children’s CASA volunteer, Andrea, saw a child who just wanted to be accepted and loved.
Determined to find a family for DJ, Andrea suggested a couple with physical challenges who was willing to open their hearts and home to DJ. This couple adopted DJ and they became a loving family for him.
Andrea found a loving family for DJ
What Do CASA Volunteers Do? A CASA volunteer gets to know the child and speaks to everyone involved in the child’s life, including family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, social workers and others. A CASA volunteer gathers information and makes recommendations to help the court make informed decisions. A CASA volunteer commits to a child until the case is closed and the child is in a safe, permanent home.
Why CASA? CASA is unique in that it empowers ordinary people to serve as officers of the court and work with and on behalf of foster children. Because of their important position in the court system, CASA volunteers can make a lifelong difference in the life of the child they represent. They can stop the cycle of abuse and neglect for generations to come.

For Your Grownups
What Do YOU Think?
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” — Mark 9:24 God weaves into every soul the capacity to believe and the power to choose what to believe. Beliefs form the foundation of an individual’s life and determine its outcome. In John 12:44-47, Jesus makes a bold and direct plea to this core. For those who accept His call, Jesus empowers faith with eternal meaning, purpose, and life.
This book grows with your child
ConneCT Scripture to a child’s life
Which bird in this book is most like you?
Why did God make so many kinds of birds?
How does Jesus help you believe in God?
Ask questions about the books you read together to explore the meaning your child makes of them. Seek and pray together for God to open your hearts to His truth. Baby Your newborn or crawler thrives just hearing your voice as you read the Bible passage in this book. Toddler Feed your toddler’s growing curiosity by talking about the pictures—read the captions, name the colors, imitate the sounds. Child As your child grows older still, the meaning of the Scripture will unfold and deepen in your child’s uniquely developing spirit.

Whether you’re looking for a provider or need help with a particular issue, Hand to Hold’s online resource directory will help you find the information you need to care for your family medically, financially, and emotionally. Parents and professionals share what has worked for them and help you learn the questions you need to ask to get the help you need.
Nothing offers hope quite like knowing someone else who has survived a similar experience. Reading other families’ stories and sharing your own is a powerful way of giving and receiving support. http://tinyurl.com/StoryShare

This woodpecker father finds food and a home for his family. He then teaches his young how to survive. With practice, the chicks learn to grow and become like their father. His work saves them! You have someone like that. He is your friend, Jesus.
Close as a breath Parents never know when a child will pop big questions about life. But on a daddy-daughter day out, this dad is ready. He answers a flurry of questions with a vital answer that matters most. Children see that the miracles of nature are reliable, just like a parent’s—and ultimately God’s—steady presence. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
