What other applications does an inclined plan have?
DailyApplicationDaily
The frequently-seen barrier free facilities in our daily life are the application of the slide principle, which enables the disabled to move upward using their wheelchairs with little effort or slide down by braking gently.A slide is an inclined plane by which the falling speed of objects can be reduced but the moving path becomes longer; on the contrary, it can move the objects from a lower to a higher place effortlessly but with more time required. The parameters affecting the slide include the oblique angle, mass of objects and friction on the contacting surfaces.
Tony got up excitedly this morning because he was going to take a holiday with his mom on the mountain. Unexpectedly, it started to rain when they were driving only halfway up the mountain. His mom said hesitantly, “it is raining so hard. I’m afraid the road may collapse.” As expected, it’s not long before they were stuck in a traffic jam. Tony watched the mountain stream not far away. He was surprised to find that grass, trees and stones, mixed in the mud, were flowing downwards. Seeing this, Tony asked his mom what they were. “Some people deforested the mountain without conserving water and soil, so mudslide occurs, leading to disaster,” she said with a sigh. Kids, have you ever seen a mudslide? Did the mud move down rapidly? Do you know how to prevent mudslides from occurring?

Gears with different quantity of teeth can change the motion direction and convey the energy by their interlocking process. Speed increasing gear set requires more efforts since it works in a way wherein the large gears drive the small ones; on the contrary, the speed reducing gear set is labor-saving because it works in a way wherein the small gears drive the large ones.
However, Grandpa Rudolph was old and no longer strong. Moreover, the countryside was short of labor, and all the hard work must be done using automated machines. Grandpa Rudolph wished to have an automated fertilizer distributor, which can do digging, organic fertilizer applying and earthing. He didn’t know this kind of machine had been invented until he asked about it.

Anna is a grade school teacher. It’s been two months since she passed her teacher’s exam and was assigned to a school. Anna loves to spend time with children and teach them all the things they need to know. Unfortunately, Anna has been feeling down in the dumps. Her colleague, Teacher Craig, noticed how she was feeling and asked if she needed help. Anna told him that although she only had 25 students in her class, her schedule was extremely busy so she did not have enough time to mark her students’ homework. Grading homework meant she had to pick out errors, write suggestions and then give them a “good performance” stamp for encouragement. Having to write and stamp at the same time made grading homework a massive endeavor and Anna was having trouble keeping up. When Craig heard this, he decided to use his craftsmanship skills to design a stamping machine to help her. He told Anna to focus on grading homework and to choose a smart student to help her complete her stamping with his new machine. It was a big help and Anna could finally finish her workload! “It’s about to begin!” It’s now 7:58 in the evening. In two minutes, the program Dominos of the Century is about to come on TV. Lately, Catherine’s whole family has been hooked on the dominos show!
DailyApplicationDaily
Dominos originated from China in the 12th century and were mostly made from animal bones, which is why they were called bone tiles. The use of dominos originated from dice, but had more complicated rules. When dominos were introduced into Europe, wooden tiles were mass produced in order to increase their accessibility. There was also a new method of “connect and knock down” play introduced where one domino is pushed which knocks down the next one and so on, to produce a chain reaction called the “domino effect”. Catherine felt that the appeal of dominos came from the combination of creative design, precise calculations, and teamwork to achieve a magical sight for audience members. Catherine really wanted to participate in a game of dominos to show off her skills, but the difficulty level of the TV show was too high. So, her brother began to teach her basic domino moves. Three rectangular frames were arranged from top to bottom, the first frame hit the middle piece which then hit the last piece, creating a thrilling cascade of movement. Kids, let’s try it together!

The Newton's cradle mainly exhibits the characte ristics of a slide and principle of momentum conservation, with the children’s slide being a classic example. As for the momentum conservation principle, there is a unique skill in billiards called stop-shot, by which the cue ball remains still after it hits other balls which then move forward at the same speed.
There’re many interesting videos on the Internet. One of them is about a hen that laid an egg which sank 10 billiard balls into the pockets. At first, the hen squatted at the side of the billiard table and laid an egg unhurriedly. Then, the egg acted as the cue ball, which sank 10 billiard balls into the pockets. For a good billiards player, it’s not difficult to do so. However, the hen laid the egg at the table without staring at the balls. It actually set off a chain reaction of sinking all the 10 balls, which was even better than the world champion billiards player. So it’s called “Gifted Hen.”

The class was silent, so the teacher turned and gently prompted the students, “Maybe the general can return fire with bows, but what if the attacking force is too strong? Will bows be able to destroy a ballista?”
The teacher continued to explain that in ancient times, in order to strengthen the power of a bow, people invented the ballista which is a massive long-range weapon. The crossbow was formed using steel springs that required winches to arm the bow. They were much more powerful compared to standard bows and if you wanted to challenge them, you would need to use something like a trebuchet, which is equally devastating. Kids, we’ve already learned about trebuchets in a previous lesson, so let’s make an elastic firing device based on the ballista!

They are often made from bamboo by cutting a segment to form a canister, which is then mounted onto an axis with a central pivot point. The open end of the bamboo faces upward and when it is completely filled with water it swings downward to release the water. Once empty, the bamboo segment returns to the up position. It is a water-powered device that emits a loud sound to scare birds, boars and other wild beasts similar to a scarecrow.

The park’s water slide had 3 layers. Riders slide through all the tracks from top to bottom, accelerating until ending up in the pool with a big splash. Ariel loved riding down the water slide and even yearned for a higher and faster water slide! That ride had 3 tracks, but can you make 4? Kids, imitate the design of a water slide to create a four-layer track.
Summer is the perfect season for fun water-based activities. Just thinking about sitting in cold water got Ariel very excited, so she quickly called a few friends to visit a water park to beat the summer heat. Water parks have many facilities such as water bungee jumping and inflatable water rollers, but the most popular and exciting ride is the water slide. After experiencing some of the tamer water park entertainments, Ariel got her friends together and suggested they all try the water slide.

Most of us have played the pinball games in night markets, department stores or children’s amusement park. The pinball is an equipment displaying the characteristics of a slide, in which the players can shoot the marbles by electricity, elastic force or manual operation to make the marbles fall in the hole at the bottom, since the platform of a pinball is an inclined plane.

The projected teeth on the keys work like a latch which shall be inserted into the keyholes, and the handle of the key is like a lever to make us turn the keys easily. What other devices use latching mechanisms?
Paul was the first to open the door and rush out to get the dry chemical extinguisher near the escape door. He pulled the safety pin out and ran to their KTV box rapidly, with his head down. Next, he aimed the extinguisher hose at the source of the flames and squeezed the handle to discharge the agent. Soon, the fire was put out. They chose this KTV just because it had passed fire s afety inspection. Thanks to this, they survived. Kids, do you know there is a safety pin on the fire e xtinguisher? What is its function? Can you use the fire extinguisher correctly when the fire breaks out?

One weekend, Anita and her mother were riding their scooter to the supermarket to buy groceries when they heard a loud bang. Her mother stopped and discovered a flat tire! Fortunately, a kind passerby helped them move their scooter to a nearby repair shop so they could fix it.
This was Anita’s first time in a scooter shop and all of the machines piqued her curiosity. She was particularly puzzled by a machine with a flat surface and a crisscrossing structure underneath.
Hank, the shop owner, came over and smiled at Anita and said, “That’s a lift truck, you’ll see what it’s used for soon!” Then Hank moved the scooter onto the platform and pressed the start button. The platform started rising!
Anita had finally discovered how tires are changed. Thanks to the scissor lift, the shop mechanic didn’t have to work on the ground. What a useful invention!
Scientific Application Lever & Linkage
DailyApplicationDaily 18 LiftScissor
The tilt truck can manually empty out the stuff in the bucket by utilizing the characteristics of the lever and linkage rod. Besides, with the rigid structure and rotational components, it can produce a scissor-shaped mechanism to achieve the required motion modes. Another common example is the scissorshaped iron gates in some factories. The motor can move the heavy iron gates.

When it had raised the scooter to eye level, Hank pressed the stop button.
Where else can a scissor lift be used?
A scissor lift is a multi-function heavy duty piece of machinery equipment that is equipped with a work surface and can support heavy loads. They are used for support and lifting in many industries. In scooter shops, they can raise scooters to change tires, repair parts and generally makes the mechanic’s job easier.

After hearing her father’s explanation, Carol let go of her worries and enjoyed the lovely scenery! Kids, have you ever ridden in a cable car? Follow these steps and try making one!
On Sunday, Carol and her family visited the zoo. The most famous attraction in the zoo was the cable car and they were looking forward to it! Cable cars are a type of transportation gondola that can move passengers or items up and down steep mountain sides. Originally they were a transportation necessity, later they became used for tourism purposes. Cable cars are separated into two types, those with an enclosure and those without. The cable car at the zoo was enclosed and had a “car”, while hanging benches at ski resorts do not have any enclosures.
19 Cable Car Scientific Application Inertia
71 Brainstorming
Inertia refers to the condition of not being influenced by external forces, the static objects remain still and moving objects keep moving. The nature of inertia enables the objects to store energy and get ready for action. The invention of the wheelbarrow is made by applying inertia in addition to a good balance control, which can transfer the rotation energy into motion power. What types of cable cars have you taken?
Carol and her family finally got in the cable car. Carol’s mood shifted from excitement to worry; she was afraid that the cable wouldn’t be able to support the car’s weight, but Carol’s father laughed and said, “The car is attached to the cable through a very strong grip, which can support the weight of the entire car and its passengers. Also, every cable car must pass strict safety inspection tests before they are allowed to leave the station.”
