RECOMMENDATIONS This specialized kit makes it possible to investigate electricity generation and the related physical concepts. With assembling each model, or transforming the power from one form to another, children’s independent thinking will be stimulated, and furthermore they will enjoy themselves in the world of eletricity, understand it's principles and have a great foundation to build upon. 1. Please read the instructions, follow the safety rules and keep them for reference. We recommend that you make the models in the given order. You will then be able to understand the parts assembly which will give you the freedom to build as many models you can imagine. 2. Parents discuss the safety warnings and possible risks involved with children before allowing them to build the models. 3. Do not insert the wire connectors or any other component into an electrical socket, this can cause serious damage to the component and yourself. 4. Keep the electronic components (battery holder, battery charger, wires, motor etc.) away from water to avoid damage. 5. Do not use general batteries to charge, only rechargeable batteries can be charged under the supervision of an adult. Misuse of batteries can cause the possibility of fire, explosion, and personal injury. 6. After use please discard any liquids which are non toxic appropriately. History of Battery At around 1800 or so, the Italian scholar Alessandro Volts discovered that, sandwiching a salt-impregnated cloth between silver and tin circular plates and overlapping them together, can generate electricity. Until this day, the voltage unit is still named after him. The history of the new battery had just begun; Volts repeatedly carried out a variety of experiments to produce many types of battery, including the zinc and copper on sulfuric acid battery. He was the pioneer of wet batteries. â—?

In 1866, a French scholar Georges Leclanche invented batteries using the raw materials of zinc, manganese dioxide and ammonium chloride. It became the prototype of the "manganese dry battery" used in the world today.

What is a fuel cell We can imagine a fuel cell as an "energy conversion plant," electrochemical fuel goes in and electricity comes out. The supply of electrochemical fuel generates electricity through the process of electrochemical conversion. What we often hear is the "hydrogen - oxygen fuel cell"; in fact, the type and methods of fuel cells are so diverse because of continuous research and development by scientists. What we are introducing is a convenient and wonderful "Metal Air Fuel Cell".

The description of The Metal Fuel Cell|Metal Air Fuel Cell
The description of The Metal Fuel Cell: The full name of metal fuel cell should be "Metal Air Fuel Cell" referred to MAFC, using an (anode) such as magnesium, aluminum or zinc as an immersion in the electrolytic fuel, coupled with a diffused gas to the cathode has a direct response and generates electricity. We use general saline (salt) solution or sea water as the salt bridge electrolyte. We should recognize that the electrochemical referred to as "anode" is: the electrode which produces the electrode oxidation reaction, and "cathode" is the electrode which restores reaction. This is not the same as the so-called "positive and negative" in electricity and should be clearly distinguished.

From the view of electrochemical reaction: the magnesium anode plate (electrochemical fuel), throws two electrons away to form magnesium ions, and the oxygen in the air can get into the solution through the air pole, but the oxygen needs to acquire electrons to be able to restore the reaction and form a resultant magnesium hydroxide.
This tells us three things: 1. Electrons go through the circuit from the magnesium board to the air pole, so the circuit board is the negative and the air pole is the positive of magnesium. (The current is from positive to negative, while the electron flow is from negative to positive). 2. The magic air pole allows oxygen to pass through and enter the battery compartment without letting the solution flow out, and the steady flow of adequate supply of oxygen makes the operation of the battery efficient. 3. When the circuit wires are unplugged, electrons cannot reach the air pole to process the electrochemical reaction; thus, when there is no loading such as motors, the metal fuel cell does not consume energy. Metal fuel cell uses one magnesium plate to provide about 1.4V at 300 ~ 500mA of stable current for up to 20 hours. Two serial metal fuel cells can supply about 3V of effective electricity. When fully used, you can pull out the metal plate and wash it, the resulting white powder is magnesium hydroxide, which is commonly used to make up stomach antacids and so there is no harm to the environment. 6

With a concentration of around 10 ~ 20%, salt water is used as the electrolyte and the concentration should not be too strong. At home, you can add 3 to 4 teaspoons of salt into 100 cc of clean water, stir until it dissolves and then you can use it. 3.Q: What kind of recycled materials can be used to replace the magnesium alloy sheet? A: With the help of an adult, you can cut a strip of ordinary kitchen foil and fold it into a 4x3 cm rectangle. This plate is ecologically perfect and contains no harmful substances. Using aluminum as a fuel source results in lower voltage compared to the magnesium alloy sheet because of lower chemical activity. Nevertheless it is a complete environmental alternative. 4..Q:Why is the magnesium alloy sheet spotted and not conductive? A: Please note that while injecting salt water into the tank, the volume should be under the engraved lines, this is because salt water can cause erosion on metal. When this happens, you can sandpaper the eroded surface gently but be careful not to bend the sheet.

Experiment No. 1 : The Salt Concentration and Electricity The salt solution that you pour into the small tank of your battery allows a chemical reaction that produces electricity. In this experiment, you will understand that the concentration and quantity of salt solution have direct consequences on the power of your fuel cell.
Steps of the Experiment : 1) We prepared two fuel cells. In each case, the salt water mixture was different: • No.1 – According to the graduated bottle to make the salt water with the salt concentration: 5%. • No.2 – According to the graduated bottle to make the salt water with the salt concentration: 15%. 2) Each experiment (for each salt concentration) occurs in three stages. Remember to rinse your fuel cells after each step :
• Step 1: We filled the tank of salt water with 1 / 3, then made the engine run and recorded the start time to calculate the duration of operation. • Step 2: we filled the tank of salt water with 2 / 3, then made the engine run and recorded the time. • Step 3: we filled the tank of salt water completely, then made the engine run and recorded the time.

Salt plays an important role in the chemical reaction and therefore the current flow in your 2.9V fuel cell. Water is not as good a conductor 1.6V of electricity as salt water, it is the salt par1.3V ticles which allow the salt water to be a good conductor. As you see in the chart, a high concentration of salt or too large a volume of solution do not increase your battery’s duration.

ence in charge between two points in an electrical field. The voltage is fixed in many countries, some are 220-240V (there are always small variations) and in Taiwan and USA, it is 110120V, in batteries it is most frequently 1.5 or 9V. The standard unit is the volt, symbolized by letter (V).
Current : the number of electrons through a circuit per unit
time. The device is more “powerful” (Electrical Consumption) by strong current, such as a standard light bulb consumes 0.4 A and a washing machine consumes 4.4 A. Electric current is measured using an ammeter (A).

When fixing gears onto the frame with a drive axle, be sure to keep a proper space (about 1mm) between the gear and the frames. Try to turn the gear and confirm if every gear in the gear train can turn smoothly so that the least friction will be created and then the most efficient power transmission can be expected..

How to charge the batteries and connect the models: 1
1. With two fuel cells, you can charge six rechargeable batteries. Never charge a battery more than three hours. A battery charged for an hour will operate one of the models for one to two hours. Attention must be given to the polarity indicated on the battery charger and battery holder. The yellow battery holder must contain two batteries.

2. After charging for an hour, take out the battery (do not forget to clean the fuel cells if you have no intention of immediately charging another battery).

3. Put two fully charged batteries into the yellow battery holder and connect the wire connectors to make the model run.

How to use the 3V Battery Holder :
1. The 3V Battery Holder with + / - Polarity Mark.
5. Put the 3V Battery Holder onto the model.
2. Plug in the Wire Connectors.
6. Plug the Wire Connectors into the Reverse Generator.
This design prevents the risk of plugging in a battery in the wrong direction.
If the battery is in the wrong direction, the circuit is not established.

Battery Holder with Fuse The battery holder with fuse looks like an ordinary one, the difference is that it prevents any risk of short circuits or overheating by disconnecting the circuit. Once the bad connection is adjusted and the temperature returned to normal, the circuit is restored automatically. This circuit does not need to be repaired after each short circuit.
